Oh man I can't wait for this week-end. F1 back at the best track going for these things. I for one can't wait to see these wonderful machines pounding through corners like Eau Rouge once again.
I'll be following the timing live on Saturday night and will probably be on the chat room at the same time if anyone wants to discuss proceedings as they happen.
This will be a nice change after the go kart track that is Hungary.

Same here Wayne, this was one of my fav GP's & I really missed it last year when it was missing from the series.
I must admit, I can't wait for this one & I think it's also one of Shumi's fav tracks. I'm also looking foward to seeing the #1 Ferrari blitz the field again.
cheers. :)

The problem if it is wet is that it will be a Micheal Schumacher benefit - hey, who am I kidding? That's what this whole season has been so far!
I hope beyonfd all hope that Webber does well, and that Toyota get to demonstrate the awesome power of their engine down the long straight. I want a double points finish from the red and white Panasonic cars.

Session one over and done with and Anthony Davidson is quiquest in the BAR. This kid has done an excellent job this year and hopefully the rumours about him getting a drive with Sauber next year are true.
Schumacher is second with Barrichello third right behind him. Scary showing from the red cars already.
Wirdheim was a creditable fourth in the third Jaguar with Raikkonen next in the McLaren, over one second down on Schumacher.
Alonso is in sixth with Webber in seventh just ahead of Klein. Pizzonia is ninth and Briscoe is the best of the Toyota's in tenth.
Then it's Button, Montoya, Sato, Fisichella, Coulthard and Massa. Trulli is 17th ahead of the two Toyotas and the rest don't matter.

I'm no longer interested as the F1 has become a ONE HORSE race. Very disappointing
Bring on the 2005 season. I think we will be in for a much closer racing season even if Ferarri win the odd race or two:p

Mate I agree with the one horse race thing, but other teams have dominated in their 'era' in the past.
What it boils down to is it's still F1 and it's still the greatest show on earth.

AGREED!!! Williams/McLaren/Lotus/Mercedes/Maserati to name but a few.
But, what makes the F1 racing more interresting (for me) is the close racing and the test of the skill of the drivers as well as the mabhinery they drive.

Kimi has come out punching in session 2 with a 1.44.701. Button is second with Schumacher third. Davidson went fourth quickest with Sato in fifth. Good showing from the BAR's.
Coulthard sixth, then Pizzonia, Reubens, Alonso, Montoya, Massa, Fisichella, Webber in 13th, Panis and Zonta.

Good news to hear Briscoe seems OK from his off. He was going quick too in the 2nd session.
Williams seem to be struggling a little but it is early stages yet.
Good to see a mix in the top 10 for Friday practice as well.
Very much looking forward to seeing the race....
Hope Mark Webber qualifies in a decent grid possie.

Well the infamous Spa weather has struck again. The cars only got to run for about 15 minutes this morning due to fog delaying the start of the morning session. Once it did Pizzonia took the front corner off the Williams, halting the session.
So it's a wet run for qualifying which is due to start soon.

Wet dry session for final qualifying.
Trulli gets pole with a 1.56.232 after being able to run on intermediate tyres. Schumacher second 1.56.304, Alonso third 1.56.686 and Coulthard fourth 1.57.990.
Then Fisichella 1.58.040, Barrichello 1.58.175 and Webber who ran in full wet conditions at 1.58.729.
Massa eigth 1.59.008, Panis ninth 1.59.552 and Raikkonen 10th 1.59.635 after an error at the Bus Stop chicane.
Montoya was 11th on intermediates (1.59.681) but was unlucky as it started raining again just as he started his flying lap. Button 12th 2.00.237, Klein next 2.01.246 then Pizzonia (2.01.447), Sato (2.01.813, Heidfeld (2.02.645), Bruni (2.02.651), Baumgartner (2.03.303), Pantano (2.03.833) and Zonta is last at 2.03.695.
The small drying track window in the middle of the session really shook up the grid and if the Renault's can get their usual start we could be in for an interesting first few laps.
I think it will really be Schumacher by how far in the end though.

On pole is one Michael Schumacher, Borrachello, the BAR family and then the rest.
Alonso has left his teammate floundering Pissonya has blown of the Hambomuncher, who will go to the Almighty Dennis the Mennis, (In what capacity, we do not know, surely NOT as a driver?) and Mark is right behind Kimmy Raikonnen.
We are going to enjoy the crowning of an multiple winner of the drivers Worldchampion,.
This race should be held in Grease ;) to show them who is the mightest of them all
This shortened circuit is absolutly steeped in history, and I did have the pleasure of racing on the old, long, dangerously excilerating one. (in the grey past)
I also did compete on the new layout when it was just completed in 1980.

Yeah, what was going on there, leaving the decison on this for after the race  !!!
i thought he should have got a drive-thru, but now that he retired from the race, i bet nothing will happen.
I wonder if JPM actually had damage on his car, or did he just crack it when the tyre blew ???
Anyhow, it was a dam fine race & good to see that there was a bit fo passing & more than one team competative in the scheme of things.

Yeah, what was going on there, leaving the decison on this for after the race !!!
This is a new rule for 2004. There are no more drive thru penalties and all issues are dealt with after the race to aviod someones race being spoilt by a poor stewards decision in the heat of the moment.
On the ITV telecast they put 70% of the blame on Montoya, 30% on Alonso. However, in the replay, Montoya clearly short cut the corner of the chicane (he was 90% on the grass), which brought him into contact with the Renault. If he had taken the correct line he wouldn't have been alongside Alonso - hence I think 90% to blame.
Question is, did Montoya really have suspension failure after the puncture, or did he just spit the dummy.

I don't believe this...what a joke...
Since when does formula 1 include passing, accidents and someone other than Schumacher winning???
Unbelievable....
When will the F1 community learn?? We want predictable races in cars that drive around like slot cars joined with elastic...and Schumacher dominating from start to finish...
We want all the cars to finish unscathed, in the order they qualified in...after all, isn't this what F1 is all about??
Its just not cricket...
I'm very disappointed...

shame i missed the race......getting a bit pessimistic bout the whole "world motorsport scene" Loeb is running away w/ the rally title- schumacher has run away w/ the F1 title, rossi has been running away w/ the motogp title....bout the only titles not cut and dried are the V8s and local rally scene.
bit reminisant of 2002 and that was one boring yr in motorsport. only august and i dont really care :(
I had to laugh at the first shunt when Pantano's Jordon ploughed into Bruni's stricken Minardi. Pantano jumped out of his car and walked away very Manwell (ala Faulty Towers) ah Mr. Faulty, Mr. Faulty and Bruni has gone up to him and it looks like he said wtf man you just drove straight into me!!!
Also did any one else see Michaels front left get a wobble up during the pace car. Spooky. Talk about wheel wobble.
All in all a great race and I'd forgotten how spectacular this track is. Just seeing the cars coming out of Eau Rouge and over the hill at the speeds they were doing was stunning.
Congratulations to Michael Schumacher. 7th title at Ferrari's 700th race.
Congratulations to Kimi and McLaren for giving him a car that doesn't self destruct.

Well it's races like that that restore my faith in F1. That was simply one of the best GP's I've ever seen. Webber must be kicking himself as who knows where he would have finished if he hadn't have stuffed up (big points to him for taking it on the chin in his interview too).
Hard luck stories (Zonta and Pizzonia), passing (Montoya on Michael yee-hah!) and carnage everywhere (Button and Coulthard in the most bizarre ones).
I have not enjoyed a race in ANY form of motorsport that much for ages.
Geez I love the grand old lady of Spa!
Andrew
31-08-2004, 08:11 AM
Agreed, fantastic race, from start to finish. There was simply nothing Schumacher could do about Kimi's pace - he was absolutely committed. The Spa circuit should NEVER be left off the GP calendar again. Contrast what an amazing track like Spa can serve up against a shocker like the last GP in Hungary. From the most boring procession to the most scintillating GP this season.
I was however absolutely GUTTED that Zonta's engine expired with three laps to go, while he was in fourth place, starting from last on the grid. It would have amounted to Toyota's best ever finishing position, but no, it seems the McLaren engine curse decided to go to the red and white cars instead... :(
But congratulations to both Michael Schumacher and Ferrari on being the class of the field by a long long way this season. I was one o the people who felt that after last season's lucky championship victory that he should have considered giving it away, but I readily admit that I have eaten mammoth serves of humble pie after this season's awesome performance. He has yet shown again why he is the best in the world - in equal machinery not even Rubens has a hope.
Next year, I hope that I see the other Schumacher on the podium instead (not that I care for him, but he will be piloting a Toyota).
Thank God for tracks like Spa.

Michael Taylor, driving a LOTUS suffered a steering malfunction and went airborne through the trees and was missing for 15 minutes and another 15 before the help came, he had the following;

The 2 pilots that died that weekend were Cris Bristow aqnd Alan Stacey.

Yes, you would think so...but its not always the case.
Pizzonia(Ralf's replacement), is trying to secure himself a seat for next year, whether it is at Williams or somewhere else.
Montoya has known all year that he'll be at McLaren next year, so he's just going through his paces until then.
I'm sure if he got a good sniff of a win, he'd put in a big effort, but while both Ferrari's are circulating, he prolly doesn't see much point in pushing hard and risking injury or a walk back to the pits.

JPM has been a major dissapointment this year. He is now just going through the motions waiting for next year. I think when the new Williams turned out to be a slug he just gave up.

Still, although JPM's commitment over a full race distance might be questionable this season (he seems to become a petulent little boy at times), whenever he has the opportunity to race Michael wheel to wheel, he never misses that opportunity. His overtaking manouvre into the Bus Stop AROUND the outside was memorable to say the least.
I'd say that Kimi will hose JPM next season in the races, although I think Montoya will probably have the balance of the qualifying. I also think that Ron Dennis will probably start to wonder from about 5 races into the season why he signed the volatile Columbian in the first place. He just doesn't sit with the 'corporate' McLaren ethos, and his tantrums, spats and uneasy relationship with the media (and other drivers) will cause some embarrassment to Team McLaren and Ron.
But despite all of this, he's a bloody exciting driver to watch, especially when Michael's Ferrari is in his sights!

yes he would give anything to go wheel to wheel with micheal.
last year at monte-carlo JP called all his pit crew wankers but then went on to win the race and he didnt even say sorry to his pit crew.
JP is one of a kind but we only want 1 of them in F1 otherwise there would be more roadrage than racing.:)

the pit crew didnt even do anything to JP ,they even perfomed faster pit stops for JP than ralf.
the reason why he called his pit crew wankers is because JP thought they were helping ralf with his race pace and montoya was going faster than him anyway.

I have always had a lot of time for JPM but I really think Kimi will hose him off next year. That kid is something special in my eyes!

I completely agree. Will be very surprised if it is the other way around.

kimi is a man on a mission for years to come.
after finishing 2nd in the drivers championship just 2 points away from micheal to be world champ really upset him alot.
for sure kimi will out do JP but that dosent mean he will finish better than him an every race they all have their ups and downs.
ferrari said they will take on kimi when micheal leaves F1 because they think her has the talent and skill to be the next micheal schumacher.:)

While I feel Kimi is more consistent than Montoya during races, his qualifying tends to be very erratic and he doesn't seem to have come to grips with the one lap qualifying system.
I think you'll see JPM outqualifying Kimi next year, which may take a bit of the shine off this rising star.

JPM should out qualify kimi but i think kimi will pass him through the races as he over takes other cars in a tidy manner not like JPM.
for example kimi just glided past trulli in the last round and when JPM went to pass him through the buss stop he collided with him and sent trulli in to a spin.
his move might of worked on micheal a few laps before but not every driver does the same thing.
micheal stuck to the outside while heading through the bus stop so JPM just got by but when he tried to get past trulli through the bus stop with the same move trulli moved over to inner side of the race track and didnt know JPM was there and then they touched.
 :)

I agree that Juan may have the better of the one lap qualifying thing, but remember we don't know what qualifying system will be used next year.
I'm pretty sure this years format will go the way of the dodo at seasons end though.

well montoya is not quick of the still starts like kimi but when your under a safty car like micheal said " montoya is the worst driver to have behind you" because he is ace at rolling starts..
he has been practising them in the US for a year now and all the drivers can see the improvement.
cheers:)
