View Full Version : Anyone else having cookie troubles ?

Something is very odd with the cookies on this forum. I log into it from four computers, and on every one of them I was getting "welcome back dwarfs" when I logged on for a while. It's never anyone else, always Dwarfs. I cleared out the cookies from all the computers and logged back in as me but this computer has just logged in as Dwarfs *again*, and when I logged it in as me it told me my last visit was 30 minutes ago. Bzzzzt - try about 6 hours ago.

So *someone* else out there is having problems, cause they logged in as me half an hour ago !

Has anyone else noticed this going on ?

You want weird, every once and a while the work computer comes up with 'Content Keeper Blocked'. That is, I cannot access the forums or the Biante site?? Very strange. And yet now, no problems.

The worst was when the Biante Historics black XY came up on the website for sale after it was shown as to be temporarily out of stock. Major bummer that.

I had trouble placing my latest order.I was told to try clearing my cookies and relogging in but no luck. Not sure what the real problem is but hoping I can get it corrected by the next time I have to order again.

This is frustrating.

I checked my cookies, and found the user ID number it is presenting (1252).

So I log on, and "hello Dwarfs". AAAAARGH !!! Check the cookie again - still says user ID 1252.

Dwarfs was online so I checked his id - 126something. Log off and log in as chairman. Log off, log back on. "hello Dwarfs".

Oh F... F... F... FORD !

I think when you join this forum, strange things happen - this morning I connected to the internet, without connecting, only to find out I didn't connect because a window box appeared which prompted me to connect...

did that make sense?

Bullsye Lucien.

loaded forums.biante ... "Welcome back Dwarfs"

closed browser

loaded forums.biante...?a=b "Welcome to the biante forum"

closed browser

loaded forums.biante ... "Welcome back Dwarfs"

Damn ISPs who use transparent proxies !!!!!

Dwarfs, you wouldn't by any chance be connecting through Paradise would you ?

Lucien, do we actually need to worry about this, apart from it playing silly beggars with our "read new messages", as the first time we click on anything a new page of "search results" with a dynamic url will blow past the proxy ?

Thanks for clearing it up !

Geez, you wanna be careful with that vt2envy, because I stir up quite a lot of trouble, for want of a better word, and you may incorrectly take the blame for it.

And can I say, I resemble that!!! :D

Just wondering, for those having trouble, try changing your forums password. That may trick the cookie monster.

It's not a cookie problem. Somewhere between me and biante the forum web pages are being cached, presumably by paradise.net.nz (my ISP), and sometimes I log on soon enough after Dwarfs that instead of paradise's server asking biante for a new copy of the page with my name on it, it just gives me the stored copy which says "Welcome back Dwarfs".

The totally effective solution kindly suggested by Lucien is to add a junk parameter to the end of the address of the page I load e.g. http://forums.biante.com.au?1plus1=three which fools the server into going to fetch me a new copy of the page every time.

I don't know why it's only ever Dwarfs, unless we tend to log on at more or less the same time a lot.

Cheers

Suggestion Mark II

I am assuming that you use the browser forced on us by Billy Gates.

Under the Tools option, select Internet Options...

It should open with the General tab displayed, if not, click it.

The second group on this page is Temporary Internet Files. Try using the Delete Files including delete all offline content.

Also, on the General tab page, under Temporary Internet Files is a Settings button. Within that, select Every visit to the page, for Check for newer versions of stored pages.

Not sure if this will help, or if you have already been there, but it may be worth a go.

Thanks GoBlues but it's not a local computer problem. I can refresh my page as often as I want, I can force refresh it as often as I want, it makes no difference - all that happens is my browser tells paradise to get a new copy of the page and the paradise invisible poxy server says "here ya go mate" and gives me the old cached copy.

The only way to *force* the poxy to load a new page is to ask for a url it has never seen before, hence the junk parameter.

BTW I use mainly firefox, with occasional unwelcome forays into internet exploder when I encounter a web page that has been written under microflaccid's unique interpretation of the rules and won't display in a browser that expects properly compliant html.

Cheers
:)
