Today i decided to get my first model car.The classic VL Walkinshaw(11244/12000) which i like. But before i got that i had a look at some other Biante models like the yellow XA GT hardtop, Lh SL/R5000L34 and a few other classics and modern cars.I was shock at some of the prices like a HSV racing green GTS coupe $190 and a VT Series II GTS sedan @$155.I payed my Walkie $185.Are these a fair price?

Cheers

$185 for the Walky seems about right,,, they are slowly climbing up in price,, seen them for as much as $280... Gateway have them at $220.,.http://www.gatewaymodels.com.au/prod37.htm
The HSV racing Green is a pretty good price as well... seen these go on ebay for $250... so I think you've started well,,,, hope you enjoy the addictive pastime,.,:D

hmm ive seen some green gts's on ebay struggle to get above 110, so I don't think 190 is a good price, however 185 for a walky is about right. It is climbing in value slowly.

I bought my Walkinshaw from Gateway Models only a year ago and only paid $130-00. Considering they made 12000, where have they all gone??

...should buy them and make myself a healthy little profit  lol

it's kinda sad knowing peep are paying huge $$$ on ebay/other stores when there may be one (or two) right under their noses...

for eg. I was tempted to pay over $200.00 online to secure one of these buggers not long ago, as I couldn't find one elsewhere. Luckily I obtained one from nsw for a reasonable price........discovered the two walkies mentioned, not long after and found I could've saved $20, including the opportunity to inspect and pick the best one before committing...

the joys and pitfalls of collecting, I spose

heh I still remember my first model

Oh and welcome aboard! Now let me tell you about me (just think, you'll be doing this in a few years time)

It was the Trax NRMA Holden Panel Van my mum got as a Christmas presant (she worked at NRMA). She handed it down to me and told me to look after it. Unfortunately I was too young to realise that collecting is a hobby and sadly the car got damaged and scratched etc etc, although I'm about to finally try to find a replacement. I still feel bad about damaging the original tho because the thought was there and a replacement just isnt the same ...

My first REAL collectable was the 1999 CC Craig Lowndes 1:43 scale car, which I believe I may have got for Christmas 1999. Either way it was my FIRST collectable, no matter when I got it. It was also the very first item I owned that I ever got autographed, which I had done at a Lowndes appearance at the local Holden dealer in 2000. I got him to autograph the box, I didnt know at that stage drivers could autograph the roof or windscreen (being black windows), although even now I get COA's autographed, not the cars. So not only is it my first model car, its also the very first thing I ever got autographed.

My first 1:18 was Christmas 2000. The Holden Racing Team Club 1 membership newsletter "Team Torque" had photos of what looked like real 1999 Lowndes cars, but the article read they were the first HRT scale models produced by Biante Model Cars.

I chose to ask for the 2000 car for Christmas, being the year 2000!, as both 99 and 00 were on sale at that time of year. Keep in mind I was still at school and didnt work so its not like I had money to buy cars like I do now!

Then Christmas 2001 and 2002 I continued on with the 1:18 HRT #1. 2003 was quiet as the 2003 HRT #1 was a bit slowwww and not done till 2004.

Then this year I brought a few more 1:18's, Bathurst winners and the like.

My mate brought me the 2002 Team Brock Brighty #50 1:43 scale VX for my 18th this year ... a present I'll never forget.

In between these Ive brought a few 1:43's and 1:64's, some for no real reason. Both my 2003 1:43 Dynamik CC cars I brought at Mount Panorama when I was in Bathurst earlier this year because I thought they looked good side by side, ive also recently brought the 2000 and 2001 Channel Ten / AVESCO Gala Award nights VT and VX model cars, Safety cars etc.

I brought the 2002 Team Brock 1:64 car for no reason at Bathurst 2004 and later walked past the TB pit where James Brock was standing, so I asked him to autograph the case "because its got your name on the side Mr Brock" which made him laugh!

I also brought the 2002 Lowndes AU (@ bathurst) because he was signing autographs , so did my mate. I noticed my mates got signed but Lowndes snobbed me, maybe it had something to do with the fact I was wearing red and my mate was wearing blue?

theres more in there, Ive even had a 1:64 police car specially made up for me with a COA of being one of a kind, and various other cars, Sydney Olympic Matchbox cars, Torch Relay car (VS Commodore), the rare (recalled) Matchbox #21 "Commodore Race Team" 1:64 which theres only a few of (the only ones in existance are those they people brought before the recall) because as soon as they hit store shelves they were recalled and destroyed because of legal issues (do you know of the CRT?)

See ... addictive, and you can usually remember when and why you brought certain models!

Once again welcome aboard

Oh, and there alright prices, but if you stick here you'll work out whats a good price and whats not because we all get in and whinge when a cars too expensive!
