I know we're always bringing these auctions up but I thought today I'll check out Ebay's Biante section
Ok now this first one I come across last week which had NO bids. I thought the guy was, well, out of the world with his asking price. The auction originally ended with no bids, I wonder why!
I was just about to post here and say "good luck to this guy if he gets the asking price " but, err, take a look for yourself!
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=29683&item=5129587835&rd=1
1:64 UNSIGNED Biante minicar
Starting price: $75 !!
Current price: $79.00 with 2 days to go!
Now then just in the first page look what I found
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=59975&item=6931736908&rd=1
Brocky's last Bathurst 7-10 October 2004. Up for auction is a replica of Peter Brock and Jason Plato's 2004 Bathurst VY Holden Commodore in 1/64 scale. It is in a larger acrylic case with Red HRT sleeve and the base has space reserved for autographs.
Bidding is currently at $63.00 with a day to go. 63 bucks aint bad for a 1:18 oh wait, thats for an UNSIGNED 1:64 !!!!!!!!
Start price: $30 which was taken up quickly!!
I like this next one though, makes me realise my collection has gone up in value
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=59975&item=6931764155&rd=1
This is a highly detailed 1:18 model from Biante of GREG MURPHY-RICK KELLY HOLDEN VY COMMODORE WINNER-2003 BOB JANE T-MARTS 1000. No.51.This model is mint from the factory and has never been displayed, nor removed from it's original box, in fact the seal to view this model is yet to be broken. The photo below is from my personal collection, Model comes with a certificate of authenticity and was released in July 2004 and is also limited to 3000 pieces. Model is numbered 1249/3000. This is Greg Murphy's 3rd Bathurst winning car and is the car that holds the record for "Fastest Ever Pole Time." He now joins Mark Skaife and Allan Moffat with 4 Bathurst Wins. The auction has no reserve.
Currently : $200 with 1 day to go!
Now the Kmart 1:18 I can understand someone paying $200 for, especially if they now want to display the back to back victory cars, or for the pure fact this box has never been opened, but cmon, 80 bucks for a $22 car? I really wish now I had brought a few 1:64's ... heck the profit could pay for the 2004 Bathurst winner!
So I wonder how much people would pay for the twin set or the 1:18 even, if this is the kinda price their paying for a small 1:64?

I sometimes wonder if some of these buyers actually know that there are Dealers that sell diecast Models.

250 bucks for toilet paper? Ok I thought the car was bad BUT this just settles it :)
Isnt it cheaper to just buy a "repica" toiler paper pack lmao
Look ive got no probs with people selling on ebay but sometimes it makes me wonder do they feel guilty selling a 30 odd dollar car for 80 bucks to someone who doesnt usually collects cars but thinks "geez Brocks last bathurst gotta get me one of those cars"
I know I'd feel guilty, but thats just me

While I've never been to the Bathurst race, weren't people lighting this stuff on fire and throwing it around last year?

Maybe this guy should keep the packet of toilet paper , as he might need this many roles to clean up after himself .....:p

That particular toilet paper was presented to athletes on Roy & HGs show in Athens. I've never seen one of these sold in stores and am unaware whether these were exclusive for Athens or not, but who knows, it could be worth something. Though I'd never pay that much for paper.

Athol, I agree 100% with your comment. If the buyers don't realise that they can still get it from a dealer cheaper than from Ebay, then that is their problem. We all know that the sellers prices are unrealistic, but hey, there are always people out there that are going to buy them regardless. You can always send the buyers emails to let them know that they can get them cheaper.

How about this one and I bet somebody will be stupid enough to pay that price. People pay stupid prices on ebay.

Priceless. I don't know, it probably would fetch that price AND more.

I'm sure ANY Biante with a legit COA of #0001 would fetch a fair bit, something like the very first Biante would fetch even more

I've heard that admin keeps each Biante model with COA 0001.
If that is the case then admin must be sitting on a goldmine.

Yeah, but then you have the scammers on eBay with the #001 of #500 with their Prototype utes.

There are a handful of Minichamps 1:43 models that have sold for $1,500 or about 35 times their release price (Schumacher Benetton's, McLaren GTR "West"). These typically were very limited promotional items. However, there are also many standard release Minichamps models selling in the $500 - $600 range or 20 times their release price.
On this basis, you could perhaps expect some 1:18 costing $165 when new to be worth $3,000 - $3,500.

That same 99 HRT Bathurst set has been on ebay a couple times in the last few months and still not sold, maybe it's a bit overpriced, afterall 99 was not an exceptional year for HRT.

rpz00m, yeah thats what I meant by 'legit' COA #0001 because I knew someone in Biante keeps #1, its just common sense
also yes ive seen the 1999 HRT set for a while as well.
Personally I cant see it selling for that price, I think you'd just get away selling the cars for $300 each, I dont know its just a hunch.
The only thing going for it is the matching #11 COA's, the lowest ive ever got is #15 which was the 2004 Skaifey HRT so I know how hard it is to obtain such a low COA number, especially 2 matching! Still, I wouldnt pay that much for them
Joel true, and in all honestly it would work to the unsuspecting collector who doesnt know better

I thought they had a good year Lowndes won the championship Skaife finished 3rd and came 2nd and 3rd at Bathurst, after Lowndes had his crash at Calder still won the championship
My Mate pick up the the Lowndes/Mconville car at Bathurst for $1.70 great buy they also had the Skafe/Morris car for the same price it was gone the next day.

Hi again to all.
Last november "2003" i was fortunate to get up to Barbagallo raceway here in W.A just on closing with only minutes to spare i managed to get the great Allan Moffat to sign the roof of model & box of my much cherished 65E whilst i rang Perth airport to get the flight schedules to Melbourne for him , as he needed an earlier flight than the one he was booked on .
As Allan gave me back the signed model he said that has now increased in value from approx $600 to $4000.to which i looked back as to say yeah right but before i could say anything Allan said " I signed one of these and it reached $4000. at a charity auction much to my suprise".
I found out later Allan was trying to get home early as he had just heard of the death of Howard Marsden another legend.
i am not saying my model is worth that much, but whatever thank you Allan for all that you have done.
REMEMBER THE GOLDEN RULE .
THE ONE WITH THE GOLD MAKES THE RULES.
AND A MODEL IS WORTH WHAT SOMEBODY WILL PAY FOR IT:)

I think the cars being defaced with signatures spoils it. They weren't driving around Bathurst with big signatures on the roof. I wouldn't pay a cent for it now. (I'm sure most of you will disagree but who cares)
People like Alan Moffat and Peter Brock have written thousands upon thousands of autographs, where is the value in their signatures when it seems like everyone has them. In 1997 I was at Oran Park for Brocks last touring car race half of Sydney was there and he signed his name for every single person lined up, it took hours.
Despite all that some person with a lot more money than sense will probably pay a ridiculous inflated price for it, so in the end you will probably be the big winner anyway.

Why are we so fussy about HOW accurate a model is represented? Really, you guys who go on and on about models with a signature on the roof is taboo because it doesn't represent the real thing.......c'mon. You're like little girls.
Oh god, I just realized none of my models have plush genuine leather seats, velour trim, fuel in the tank, electric windows, electric mirrors and, oh, an engine that goes. Oh crap.

What about if they sign your COA?

For me, a signed COA is great. I managed to get quite a few COA's signed at Bathurst, and they definitely add to the appearance of the model when displayed with said COA.
Funny story, I managed to get Jason Richards to sign the COA letter I got with the Tasman 1:64 prototype from earlier this year - Jason had to read it a couple of times to make sure he "wasn't signing away his 2005 rights"... :D

Have you HEARD some of the complaints over incorrect grilles, skinny tyres, out-of-proportion wings? I'd say accuracy matters a great deal to most on this forum.
The argument against it is simple (and is one that I share). When some look at a car, they want it to look like the real thing. A signature detracts from that.
However, I don't believe the retort that "The car didn't have a signature on it when it raced" has much argumentative substance. If someone gets a signature on a car, it is to satisfy THEIR desire to have an exclusive item signed by an icon of the sport.
While Mr. Moffat's signature might be on countless items, I'll bet it isn't on many 65E models. That's a rare beast. Not some people's (or my) cup of tea, but rare nonetheless.

That is just my opinion, I am not saying that I am right. I don't like signatures on cars and thats it. Get over it people.

when it comes to it theres 3 types of collectors
the first only collects for money gain, that is never touch the box and one day in a few years time sell it as "never opened never touched" because collectors out there do pay a bit extra for a car thats never seen daylight since the day it was packaged off the production line. Anything above what they originally paid for the car is pure profit.
the second only collects them to display, to show off and to enjoy
the third collects to display, and if the addition of an autograph adds value, or if the car itself goes up in value, then so be it
Now personally Ive run out of room for posters or photos on the wall, so Ive decided now to start getting COAs autographed. If this increases value then so be it, because I buy my cars with the plan of never selling them.
I buy direct from Biante to attempt to get a low number (#15 is my lowest so far) and why not, thats what collectors do. Some do it for #1 above, that is to sell it as low COA number, but for me its more for the excitement of opening a Biante box to see what number I got and is it single digit!
Ive got a few COAs done now. I find it more satisfying to have a COA autographed then a free poster you just snatched from the display stand, or a $3 hat, but thats just me
Like I said for me if it increases the value, or if the autograph + low COA number increases then good, but I dont plan on selling them and even if I did it isnt for monetary gain, it'd be because ive run out of room!
Now some like the car itself autographed, I'm one who doesnt, but thats my preference. There are many forum members who prefer the car, and many who dont, its your personal choice.
thats my 2 cents, feel free to flame me
:p

I can't see what the difference makes how long the cerificate number is, only if it is really significant.
