Did anyone else see this in Auto Action? Just wondering what this all means 26 years later (except for the obvious that Bond and Harvey are now the 76 Bathurst Winners)?

"In a ruling from Holden, Motor Sport Boss Ray Borrett, John Harvey and Colin Bond gifted with winning the 1976 race following a failure to relegate Morris and Fitzpatrick to second place due to a lap scoring error."
See Australian Auto Action for more info until Aug 13.

It's been talked about in the past , it's just that recently at Harvey's Tribute event the Holden big wheels finally made public comment.

It's not that different to 1987 Bathurst ; if you don't lodge a protest then the result doesn't change.

Morris' win in 1976 was great television. It became the great Aussie Battler saga similar to Goss in 1974 and later races with Dick Johnson in 1980 and 1981 and Gricey in 1986. I recall that the Morris car driven by Fitzpatrick in the final stages in 1976 was faltering with a smoking diff and everyone was willing it to win.
It seems that Holden didn't want to spoil that fairytale ending - after all , it was still a Holden win.

Goes to show what a top bloke is Harvey ... loyal to Holden even in the worst of circumstances , as he later demonstrated with the HDT bustup.
