Reckon they'll need a crowbar to prise you out at the end! Do you have a choice of what order you drive them? Given a preference, which first and which to finish off with? And which are you most excited about? Sounds excellent!

Nick, I have been reading EVO for too long.

I would like to start in one of the Porsches and finish in the Maserati. I dont really care what order, I just cant believe I will be driving a car worth as much as my house. The Ferrari I would like to drive on the open road or up to Arthurs seat.

I just hope it doesn't rain tomorrow as I could have gone today but I was too busy with work. Plus it is 35celcius outside.

I am so excited. I wont be able to sleep for sure tonight.

Cheers

Please make sure you give what ever your driving a big blurt when you go past the school in McCulloch St on your way to Arthur Seat :D

They always used to interrupt my phys-ed lessons when this happened & I wouldn’t like the new bloke to get an easy run.

Oh & by the way I hope you have a great time driving those exotics.

cheers. :)

Thanks Guys.

Brad, If I can I will stop & Blast the horn and then the car straight up the top. Isn't that school near a Police Station???

James, if you've got time, go & check out Arthur Seat as it can be a very rewarding piece of road, but there are a couple of tricky corners that can catch people out, resulting in massive damage.....

On a clear run, it a rather rewarding hill climb ;) (lots of 2nd, 3rd gear stuff in the SV8) !!!

Enjoy your day & I'd be interested to hear about it as it's something I've been keen to do it (I was getting sick of seeing the cars ever month or so & not being in one), yet not got around to it yet.

cheers. :)

The police Station at the other end can only be a good thing right.

I will let you know how I go.
They would have had the Diablo there but someone has it for the GP week so we cant take it.

Lucky I got a new camera.

And boy does that Diablo sound sweet :D !!!

It's the one which always grabs my attention when they used to drive by....a nice black one with a targa style roof, just the thing for cursing on a warm summers day......

Oh & one time someone must of had the Ferrari in 1st as it's only a 60kph zone past the school & it was rather singing quite loudly

cheers. :)

You mean HONDA NSX, a very nice piece of motoring indeed.
The Ferrari is the pick folowed by the Maserati spyder, the Lotus will be like a gokart in driving behavior and do try to drive the Honda!
Good Luck.

Well, I am finally back.

What a day it was.

I decided not to drive the Ferrari 355 Convertible as it had a new clutch and I haven't friven a manual for a while & didn't want to break it. Yeah, I know I should have driven it but next time for sure.

We started the morning in the Ferrari.
Pulling onto the Monash at Punt Road we got upto 140kph by the end onthe silos. That is a really short distance & canonly confirm how fast the Ferrari really is. I was in that car all the way to Mornington where we stopped for morning tea. The scones where the biggest I have ever seen.

I then jumped in the Boxter & drove to Dromana, where I swapped with my parter for the day Neil. Thats when it all went down hill FAST.

Going past Brads OLD SCHOOL beepin out horn we staled just at the bottom of Arthurs seat where the intersection is.
We were the last in the pack so Neil decided that we had better cacth up.
Traction Control Off. Full throttle, dump the clutch.
We tore away from that intersetion and up through second & then intothirdas we camearound the bend to the start of Arthurs Seat.
well Gues who was waiting for us on the side of the road.
A nice police officer who decided today was a good time to catch some hoons.
Well Neil got done for 118kph in a 60 zone.
That would have got him atleast 8 months loss of licence and a huge fine. The copper was really nice & dropped it to 85 in a 60 zone which as only a $205 fine & 3 points.

We then went up Arthurs Seat at a quick rate and caught the pack at the top. We changed cars again into the Ferrari and Neil drove all the way to Red Hill for Lunch at Max's Winery.

Lunch was great, nice big steak and vegies.

Maximus
02-03-2005, 04:43 PM
I then had a choice. Honda NSX or Porsche 911 Targa.
I took the auto Honda & let me tell you, this would really give the Ferrari a run for its money.
100kph I dropped it back to 2nd, and floored it. I went past the Lotus like it was standing still.
We stopped again for a car change where I went back to the Boxter, That lotus really is small & I am 6'3" and really wouldn't have enjoyed squeezing in and out of it.

I drove that until we got the the service station at the end of the freeway as you head towards Hastings.

Then the best part of the day. I got to finally drive the Porsche 911 Targa. Know I know what movie stars feel like.
Everbody on the road was looking at usdarting in and out of traffic trying to keep up with the pack.

I ended up driving that all the way back to Richmond & was the best car I have ever driven.

For anyone else contemplating this as a present or even for yourself it is one thing you have to do.

One of the guys that came was his 70th birthday today & his wife got him it for his birthday. So you are never to old to do it.

Enjoy it while you can guys as I am going to do this again for sure next year.

Thanks again for reading this far if you have and I am now going to lie down as I am really sunburnt and quite tired.

Cheers

James

Was the F355 spyder a F355F1 (with F1 steering wheel shifting pedals) or a F355 manual ?

I'm heading back down there Friday afternoon, so I'll ask if they heard you :D !!!

I've actually just got off the phone from my parents & apparently two days ago there was a hit, run incident just where you got pinged & I didn't event think to remind you, as it is one of the locals lads favourite spots for nabbing tourists......sorry my bad:( !!!

You're really lucky they wrote the ticket down as it's been a long time since I've heard of it happening on the Peninsula. Usually they’re as tough as nails.

I don't know who it was, but if it mustn't have been one of the local traffic division as they have a pretty bad name down there for being cowboys. You know, the do as I say, not as I do type.

I'm glad you have a great day & it was a pretty nice day for a drive as it was & to be honest, I'm sure you didn't miss the Diablo.....

Thanks for the info.

cheers.

I had a look on the website and it is a F1 with the paddles.
You should have driven this just to feel the difference.

Just have to wait. I still have another nine months to go with zero points on my licence!

Ferrari Fan, It was a 6 speed manual.
I will post pics once I get them off the camera.
It was weird to be in a blue Ferrari.
I dont thing I have seen one that colour before.
After seeing one of the people take off riding the clutch in the Ferrari I knew I could have driven the car. Next time for sure though.

Brad, thats something you could have told me earlier.
I was lucky I wasn't driving that leg.
I have even got that part on camera but forgot to put the sound on. The cops name was Andy something from Dromana as it was written on the ticket.

Wayno, If you get the chance do it. You will never forget it.

My fiance even told me this morning I was talking in my sleep last night about it. I must have enjoyed it.

You guys were very lucky, I know of the officer in question & he's a good bloke, one of the locals - they used to wave to me in the SV8 everything they saw me driving, I don't know if it was a we know who you are thing or not :D

Well thanks for that story. SOunds like you had great fun, except for the police thing. Even then your mate was lucky to get off with a lower fine etc.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Good to see the 911 getting the nod as a good drive. All the cars are dream cars really and you have had the opportunity to drive most of them. The Ferrari will give you something to look forward to next time too!

Cheers,

Timbo.

Thanks guys for the comments.

I am now trying to organise a group from work to go as I have told them all and they are all jealous.
Some of the older guys here are in for sure but the younger guys are a little put off by the price.

Once every year or so I am planning on doing this and next time I am taking my dad along. He is an old petrol head from years ago.

Brad, Thank that copper if you ever see him.

Its not quite in the same league as the Exotic Car rental but my wife got me a Formula Ford Drive day out at Oran Park for my 30th last year which I finally got a chance to book.

It is not until the end of April however after reading this thread I wish it was today...

Glad to hear you had a blast James and I enjoyed your pics...

Riddler, ANything you get to do out of the norm is fun.

I would love to drive one of those Formula Fords one day.
Dont they have a better power to weight ratio than a 911.
And you really get to give them a go.

Check out the next pic & I bet the replacement's not cheap !!!

Maximus

Brad, They had the car at the GP as advertisement.
Good pics you took.

On one of the drive days it is $2500 excess if you crash ANY CAR.
Even if it was the Ferrari or Lambo.

Normally it is something like $10-$15K for one of those cars.

You thinking about doing one of those days???

I have heard that they are going to start using the cars at the race curcuits and you can buy the drive days there.
Now that would be fun. Driving them the way they were meant to be driven.

Guys All that I can say is be careful as we nearly got burnt by going along for a day with this company a couple of years ago. My wife was going to do this for my birthday and had made a preliminary booking and then tried to contact them again and used one of the search engines but came across a raft of information about the company and other similar stories as ours. Our problem was with a company on cnr Punt Rd & Swan St and they may ave moved since then but had numerous name changes and "change of ownerships".

It was only this week at a dinner we had with one of the car clubs that I am in and another couple had the same deal - booked in for and paid $800, company shut down and then the new company said that we would honour the booking but required another amount of $900............ needless to say they only parted with the original $800 but this was small change in comparison to others.

They may be legitamate companies out there now but the only way that I will be driving one of these exotics now is if a friend loans me one or I buy one.

Just my 2c worth.

Maximus

MOTIV8, we got my old boss a gift vouvher from EXOTIC CAR RENTALS about 2 years ago and he had let it lapse for almost a year and then I told him that they had shut down. He rung up the guy running it, GREG BURLOW, and he told him that he would honour the gift certificate with the new company which is MELBOURNE SPORTS CAR RENTALS. He didn't have to pay any extra though so I dunno what happened to you.

Now he did that about 1 year ago and had a ball.
Got to drive a Lambo, Maserati, Lotus, Jeep CHerokee SRT8, Merc SLK and a couple others. I even have pics from that day and will post them here during the week.
There is a great one of them pulled over by a cop on a bike, just cause he wanted a look :D

I think these days they charge something like $1500 for the same thing.

I would go to this place again but cant see myself spending that sort of $$ this time round.

Cheers
