If the real thing looks similar to the pic on that web site, it'll be a very mean / tuff car.
Make a great 1/18 diecast to.
Hmmm 42 days to go

Be nice if they could do a GT coupe. I would really like to see Monaro and GT in something like v8supercar.

Never thought I would say this about a Ford but that car looks excellent!!! Must be going soft in my old age ;)
Let's hope the artist impressions and what they build look the same!

Hey Loste treasures, easy on the EBGT, some of us happen to think they were anything but a lemon, remember different strokes for different blokes, I wont enlighten you with what I think of every 'DORE' made. :p

well i tjink its about time the gt made a come back
hopefully it has a powerfull engine to take it up to holden this time
because nothing under 300kw will do
We also should remember even though the TE50 is only 250Kw it pumps out more Torque than the 300kw HSV.

Mate, perhaps you should read the thread posted by yourself:

What you have said above pretty much goes against it.
As mentioned by another poster, I think you've got it wrong there.
I also think that they are far from lemons.
Except for the pretenders making the typical 'GT faker', the EB and EL GT's represent, for good or for bad, a couple of great attempts to keep some blood flowing through the veins of Ford Australia.
The lastest incarnation is something many of us have been hanging out for, for years.
If you don't like it, or earlier attempts, then too bad!!

I cant help it Loste Treasures, now I've got some back up from XR8. I wonder if you've driven an EBGT. I wouldnt mind a little wager you havent. Compare it to the top of the line cars produced now and it may have some shortcomings but compared to the 1991 group A VN it was run against in a Wheels comparison in 1992 it goes alright. I know I'm biased, what do you have as your pride and joy in your garage. Anyway good luck in your quest for 100 posts and the reward you are looking for, hope its not a lemon. :p

AHEMM......
I hate to burst your bubble folks but......
Before you start jumping down my throat let me explain what i ment. The EB GT and EL GT whilst were a good starting point for FORD were nothing compared to an equivalent HOLDEN.
The general public acknowledges this and are therefore not held in the same regard as the previous GT or even in the same category with the HSV equivalent vehicles.
All i ment was that i hoped that the latest GT keeps in line with the competition.
And as far as having no experience with GT or XR8's.......
I have quite a few contacts within the FORD GT CLUB here in Victoria and have two brother in laws who where the originating founding members of the XR6/XR8 CLUB OF AUSTRALIA.
AND AS FAR AS DRIVING A EB GT?????
WELL, MY FRIEND YOU HAVE LOST THAT BET !!! IVE DRIVEN A FEW LATE MODEL FALCON V8's INCLUDING AN EB GT WHICH I WAS LOOKING AT PURCHASING. DIDNT BUY IT THOUGH......
Guess why???
Not good enough

Lets see.....
with a name like XR8 you must like Holdens right???????
talk to any local member from any GT club and let him tell you what he thinks of the EB GT and EL GT. Both the EB and EL are GT in badge only. Previous GT's had the body and soul of a GT. Thats what Ford needs to incorporate in the new car.
I think an EB XR8 is a far more better value for money car than a EB GT. Actualy i have a soft spot for that vehicle and wouldnt mind buying one.
Yeah, I guess you've got me there, I didn't mind the VN Group A when it came out actually....
It is a shame that the EB and EL GT's don't have as much fire in their belly's as the older GT's, but there are those who complained and said the XB GT's went too soft as well.
Personally, I have always loved the look of the XB's, the front end is the toughest looking ever on a Falcon I reckon.
Perhaps the opening scenes of Mad Max One cemented that image for me, dunno, just always loved them!!!
I really hope for Ford's sake that the new GT's / XR's etc really give Holden / HSV something to think about, they've had it too good for too long!!! Good on them for doing what they've done so far, we're lucky to have the choice of vehicles we do.
As for the EB XR8 versus EBGT, well, yeah, the XR8 would be the better choice, especially if it was going to be more of a daily driver, but the GT does deserve a special place, even if it isn't held in high regards by some. Think for a minute, maybe if there were no EB or EL GT, would we be getting another chop at the cherry now?? Perhaps not. My guess is that the performance flame might well have gone out at Ford.
Thank goodness it hasn't!!!!
I've had two XR's myself, an ED XR6, and an ED XR8, both standard, and both 5 speeds. I traded the 6 on the 8, purely because I just had to have one. I'd wanted one since the first EB, and took the opportunity when it arose..
Looking back now, I'd still have to say that the XR6 is the better car all 'round, especially in standard form.
The V8's with a little bit of work, (that they should have had from the factory!!!) soon negate the positives with the six though..
At the moment, I'm back to hacking around in an old XD, and just biding my time to see how good the new BA will be.
As for the new GT, well my bank balance puts paid to that, because, like you Loste, I spend too much on my models!!!
Please next time, explain yourself a little better so us Ford nuts don't go berserk!!! I know it works both ways though!!
Best wishes in your collecting, Ed :)

Gee, I feel blessed to have been imparted with some more of Loste treasures wisdom. If only I was born so enlightened and actually had two brother in laws in a car club plus dont forget, contacts in a GT car club. Mate and I use the term lightly, opinions are like, you know what's ,and we've all got them! For what my opinion is worth the early GT's did have raw power and soul that the so called lemons dont have, but that is the tradeoff for the refinement that comes with the lemons. Lets not forget the lemons were never intended to go racing with they are actually just Grand Tourers.(Lets see, maybe thats were the name comes from, I wonder? PERHAPS YOU COULD ASK ONE OF YOUR CONTACTS.) From the old Italian appellation, Gran Turismo, GT anglicised to Grand Touring. Reffering to a high performance car of sporting persuasion, with refinements and creature comforts expressly for long distance travel. I dont know I'm no genius, Everybody knows and accepts the lemons would never hold a candle to the originals but for some people they are the ducks guts. As for the general publics opinions on the VN compared to the GT I didnt know general public meant the famous Mr Loste Treasures. Any way that is me done I've got to do a recall at work now, and dont I feel better, One last thing should I drive a lemon or take the ute?

well i may as well stick my toe in the water.....
the classic gt's of yesteryear had the good fortune to have behind them some great racing history and colourful and loyal drivers, likewise holdens.....although nothing comes to mind..lol
if we can get the GT to the racetrack and craig and marcus to the podium consistently it will be the pride and joy of ford fans again.
...thats it

I very rarely reply to any threads in the forum, but I would like to at least give a perspective from an owner of these great vehicles.
I am lucky enough to own an XY GTHO, an EB GT and an EL GT in 1:1. or in other words the real things. I am not here to brag or show off as I realise that I am very lucky and humbled to be able to own them.
I love all three and for sheer power the XY is the tops. For ride and touring then the EB or the EL. I love to drive them all.
I am no expert on cars, I am just a person who appreciates them. Thanks

ok one of the pics of the GT, the roof line looks like it has been chopped an inch or 2. where as in the other shots, it doesnt. the chopped roof looks awsome (even from a holden fan) but i think without it, it only looks half as threatening. i know it would be a lot of work to give it a lower roof line, but i think it woukd be worth it.

I take your point about the refinement tradeoff. But consider this. I dont think people who own real GT's would swap power for refinement and creature comfort.
I also agree with your point about the origin of the terminology GT. Somehow over time the term GT (in regards to creature comfort and driving long distances) got forgotten. Ask anyone about a GT and ask them whats the first thing they think of. I bet it wont be creature comforts, but raw power.
The phase 4 GT. Why was that killed off?? Let me see.....thats right, it was too luxurious for people to drive...wasnt it?... :p
And by the way. You should take the lemon. Its stands out more in traffic

It is a real shame that ford stopped the development of the GT. We all know about the history of the Phase 4 Falcon. I honestly think that the majority of Australians consider the GT to the be grandfather of the Australian muscle car scene.
Although i do have a mostly Holden background, i cannot deny that FORD was a leader not a follower.
Its a real shame that they let us all down (Holden and Ford fans alike) by dropping the Australian V8 after the XE Falcon range. This really gave Holden a distinct advantage. Even by not having a performance division for all these years only gave Holden more power to flex its muscles not only on the race track but on the road in general. I've always beleived the old saying "what wins on Sunday, sells on Monday".
It is only now that Ford are realizing their errors and trying to correct them. I sincerely hope that they havent forgotten how to build a serious muscle car that can not only compete with Holden but can stand up on its own two feet.
Their new GT should not be a GT in badge only. That would only put the GT legacy to shame. The Australian public are not stupid and will vote with their feet and their hip pockets. Nor should Ford try and develop another HSV Clubsport with Ford badges.
This car should be a genuine alternative to the Holden product. Only time will tell
