Hey all............

We have a thread (not on this topic though) where there are a couple of pics of customs we'd like to create... these are done on the computer ie. Photoshop etc.

I thought it would be good if we could get our creative minds together and come up with some fresh ideas on what we'd like to custom build. This way it is cheaper and we don't destroy any models. So get cracking and post your ideas here.

I have started with one I quickly made up, a Devil Yellow Clubsport R8 with GTS Coupe wheels.

Enjoy

Glen,

Again that is awesome! That car looks great with those rims and not too bad in devil yellow.

Keep up the good work.

The picture has come up trumps.
Can you tell me is it just a standard PhotoShop application that you are using to produce these pictures ?

Have you completed and customs models yet. Everyone enjoys seeing these pictures.

Glen,
Very well done. I'd love to see that in 1:1 scale!!!

Grubby..

I'm working on my first custom at the moment. I'm not sure I'm going to start anymore!! What I thought was going to be a simple construction has turned out to be a major effort!! Plus it is quite expensive. I have basically trashed one car to create another. I'll post a pic as soon as it is finished, it is a lot more work than I expected. Hoping to complete it before Bathurst.

As for PhotoShop, I'm using PhotoShop 6. I take the shots with my digital camera and work from there. To get it looking real, as in the Devil Yellow R8 with GTS wheels, you should take the shots of both of the cars in the same conditions (lighting) and camera position, to get the correct lighting and angles.

For a bit of a tease I have attached a sneak preview of my first custom.

SWRT

I guess it's a Monaro V8 Supercar or a Super Monaro Nations Cup lookalike.

the_goldie

Hey Glen you tease!!! I am thinking like SWRT a monaro V8 Supercar street version - unless you are planning on making your own livery ;)

ps.
you guys have too much time modifying these cars, but keep it up, its good to see. Is the COA# 1/1 :D

Glen

Thanks for that info and the sneak that you gave us has me very curious as to what the end result is going to be. What I can see is that it should be great.

Looking forward to seeing the final model in all it's glory.

If you would like a custom model done..assemble some ideas and if its got merit, we will make it.
Keep in mind that the body (Metal bit) must not change.
Like XB, race car front suspension, jacked up rear, huge exhausts..whatever. Wild paint scheme etc etc

Ok, I have to give this a go admin, feel free to laugh at this or ad your input.

I was thinking the Brock VR or Skaife VX. Well all the racing suspension is already there just add the Phantom Black vt2 wheels or the HSV GTS wheels which are bigger, and lowering the car all round.
With the exhaust system I would use the standard HSV system with a huge tip at the end, either the twin tips, or a huge chrome single.
I would love to see the HSV GTS 300kw power plant in it, with it being chrome on top.
Have the front two seats as the racing harnesses and the standard VT2 back seats.
I would use Mark skaifes steering wheel “flat at the bottom.
Also would be nice to have tinted windows. I Think there is a spray paint that does this, not to sure tho.
The colour I would love to see is that pearl colour that changes to all them different colours in the light, don’t know what it’s called, but it’s a real head turning colour.
But a dark Metallic blue would be nice just the same. Sleek looking.

Well the front leave the racing set up spoiler, but the rear spoiler I’m not sure if the racing one would look good or use the one on the Club sport.
Also would ad the passenger side mirror.
I also have a name for this Idea, “BLUE RAVEN

I do wounder what you other people think or would change on my idea
Well it was just a thought, I will now crawl back under my rock.

Thanks for reading.

Mike.

How about the VB Challenge cars???

I've allways been a holden man but one car i've allways had a thing for is the XC coupe. It should be black including bumper bars. have XC fairmont head lights , roll cage , racing harness. I think the wheels off the Moffat XD would look good. It has to sit low aswell so any Moffat XC's should do the job. The motor a 351 with a blower sitting on top should finish it off.

Or a Torana SLR with no flares. Orange in colour , centerline type wheels with a pro stock look ( 5in on front 10in on back ) roll cage , drop tank, racing harness. Brock SLR should do as base.Engine should a 350 Chev. Exhaust should be twin and have dump pipes just in front of diff.

how bout a VT SS. the clubby body is there, the ss body kit is on the concept coupe (with a little work) then a bit of work on changing the interior. i cant wait on confirmation either way yay or nay cos if they arent going to make it, then im gonn have a crack at it.

How about a hatchback torana either A9X or standars SS as low as you can get it (not standard A9X height) with wiiiide hotwire's on, similar to the Street machine giveaway of years ago.

oldxr, I don't know about the XW, But I have a Dinkum Model of a XY GTHO that is black with orange stripes and a white interior. Aparantly this was another one of those special factory orders. This model was a "Bob Dunlop Special". Could any of you Aussies tell me who Bob Dunlop is.

Now before you all jump down my throat I'll say I know there is already heaps of HSVs, but this one doesn't need any modification to moulds, just a simple spray in a different colour and some decals. I REALLY, REALLY want an SV99, it is exactly the same as the GTS basically, just a different colour. PLEASE admin, can this car be done.

Hey Admin or Richard,

What about a pro street Commodore and/or Falcon XR8??? Full drag trim.

22-01-2003, 08:31 PM
Hey glen ive seen your work, you can do it, you can pick up a GTS for about $100 these days then strip it down and paint it, not too hard. im working on a Senator at the moment which also involved adding a sun roof and new custom rear wing. just waiting on getting some badges made up (i want them in full on chrome not silver as the car is silver) then i can spray a clear coat for that killer shibe and put it all back together. its getting there.

so i say have a crack at the SV99, you can do it

Glen Alexander
23-01-2003, 10:15 AM
Hey Chups,

Where are you getting the badges made? The only problem with trying to do the SV99 is getting the Hackett Gold paint in a spraypack. I'm not sure if you can go to Holden and get it.

im still looking for someone that does good quality chrome decals or stickers that are detailed enough in the size i need them. i was going to get them photoetched but i cant find anyone that does it. my only other option id to cut them out of Alfoil and glue them on.
I dont think you will get hackett gold in a can but if you find someone that is having their car painted in it then you could probably get it done with that.

Glen Alexander
23-01-2003, 10:01 PM
I used to have a contact in Sutton's Arncliffe. A girl that worked at my job is sister in law to the guy in charge of spraypainting there. He painted my downhill mountain bike in tiger mica for free. But something as intricate as a model car, I'd rather do myself. I'll have to find out if you can get the colour in a can, some places can, but Hackett Gold might be a different story.

For your decals, you could probably make them out of really thin plastic, then cover them with that chrome foil used for models, sticky on one side, chrome on the other. I got some a while ago at Kellet's in Liverpool.

:D

G'Day to everyone. I have been a long time reader of the posts on these forums & especially this thread. Back when I was a kid, BBurago used to make DIY kits that were die-cast. The quality was nothing special, however it was a bit more real & challenging than a plastic kit. Anyway, in order to relive my childhood, I decided to combine that pastime with my addiction to V8 Supercars make a custom V8 Supercar. Now I know that this has probably been done before, but there are some small touches that should set it off. I wil post some of the progress pics & the finished product if anyone is interested.

Cheers.

The nose and tail of the SV8 are very different from the S and SS, the rear and of the SV8 is the same as the Acclaim and the front is a modified version of the Acclaim.

If you are planning on putting the V8 Supercar engine in your car, you'll have to grind part of the front to accomodate the air box that sits on top of the engine. It goes beyond the part that I highlighted in your picture. I discovered this when I built my V8 Coupe.

Thanks Glen. I have realised over the weekend that what I originally thought would be a relatively easy swap, actually requires a bit more modification. No wonder Biante try & maximise their tooling costs..... :p

Glen Alexander
10-02-2003, 07:40 AM
That is exactly what I thought too!!! Then I realised that the rollcage had to be modified, the actual body of the car as well, the rear bumper bar has to be shortened, the side where the sideskirts are has to be shortened at the front end a little to accomodate the V8 Supercar skirts, the boot (fuel area) has to be modified because the rear of the Coupe is shorter than the sedan, also the interior had to be shortened a little, and maybe a few more things. It really became quite a headache to accomplish!!! Good luck!

I'm halfway through my Walkie project, just about finished the painting, it's pretty wild.... not over the top (I think!!), might upset some enthusiasts!!!! Would love some nice chrome wheels, I wish someone would produce aftermarket wheels for 1:18. I've said it before, if someone was to produce wheels like MOMO and Simmons there'd be a market for it. A nice set of 19 inch MOMO Status, Racer, or Sports or 19 inch OM or FR Simmons would be sweet for my project.

I havent bought the car yet, so i dont how much it will be, im hoping about $100 - $120, the only thing wrong with it is that the bonnet isnt on the car, its in the box unbroken just not attached, so since ill be pulling it apart anyway, i can just put it back in like new (well before i hack it up)

Glen, i also think there is a market for after market wheels, engines, spoilers etc. i emailed biante with the idea of a standard commodore and falcon then you could buy parts like body kits, wheels, seats, engines, new bonnets (with holes for superchargers etc) much in the same way as the 'Tech-carts, Tech-bikes and Tech-Decks you can buy. i think it would be great but the price would have to be right for the market to be there.

but i would love 1:18 wheels, body kits etc for people that modify cars.

Also Glen, what have you done to your walkie?

Have tried, but BIANTE don't like it to be used commercially which is fair enough, plus you get a whole lot of time wasters who just want to try & rip you off, like $90 for a Bathurst Twin Pack cos they are a year old.... you know, that kind of mentality. On AUTOart models, you have to cut the brake caliper away from the axles first, or they brake when you pull the wheels off. You have to dismantle the car first, then cut the calipers, pull the wheels off. They come straight off. With the front though, you have to put a screwdriver through the back, you'll see where I mean, then pull hard. On the Walkinshaw, you just have to pull the centre cap off the wheel and unscrew them. I discovered this after I yanked them off and broke the damn thing!!!
