Now this just eclipses all before it...

http://www.smh.com.au/news/News/The-400kmh-supercar/2005/05/12/1115843344992.html?oneclick=tr ue

0-300km/h in 14 sec! Hold onto your hat!

8 litres, 16 cylinders, 4 turbochargers, 1001 DIN HP!!!

This is F1 for the road!

Who mentioned a Supercar Scare???

Cheers

Holy s#1t!!! That is 1 powerful car.

"From that speed (and assuming its brakes retard the car at a similar level to other supercars), the Veyron would take 750 metres to stop.

As well as the seemingly ludicrous top speed, the all-wheel-drive Veyron can reach 100kmh in just 2.9 seconds.
"

Imagine taking 750m to stop the thing. I hope it has GOOD brakes.

Damn it is only going to be left hand drive and I was going to start saving the estimated $3mill to buy one - hahaha :D

Imagine the insurance premium on this!!!

The car's been in development for so many years (drawings, models, prototype, half-hearted secret testing) that I wonder if it'll ever go into full production. VW are a bit toey about it, or certainly have been for a while. Autoart have a 1:18 of the thing if anyone likes the look of it.......

Yes the development has been going on for some time.....

Bugatti have an excellent website at www.bugatti-cars.de

Lots of technical info if your interested. I like how the car is named the 16.4. 16 for # of cylinders and 4 for the # of turbo's..

Personally i think its great companies develop these supercars.

Cheers,

Timbo.

The Dauer 962 has been timed at 404 km/h, so it'll be interesting to see if the Bugatti can shade that when it is finally given its head. It has 271 bhp more, so despite being bigger it may do it!

I wonder what McLaren thinks of this one surpasing the F1's performace! :D

I don't think they will really care. The thing still has to hit the showroom yet.
The McLaren F1 was, and always will be a fantastic statement. If or when it's performance figures are beaten is academic.

Ah yes but who will be the next to break this record !!! The wonders of modern technology.

The F1 was great the Enzo greater but the Veyron at the moment the greatest.:D

By that token, Thrust SSC is the greatest of all, with a top speed of over 1000 km/h..........Does anyone actually like the look of the Bugatti, or is it just that it is the most powerful?

Ah nick but can Thurst SSC be driven on the road !

And yes i like the look of Bugatti, has hints of there older cars in design like the grille but is made for super speeds.

Ahhhhhh...but can the Bugatti be driven at 400kmh+ 'on the road'. Only private tracks me thinks...........unless you take it to the Northern Territory and give it some welly......:D I don't think there are any speed limits on the open road out there?

I certainly wouldn't do it on public roads....given the chance.

Since none are coming to OZ i dont think it would really matter here, but places like Germany and Italy certainly and maybe some adventurous folk in the USA might have a go on the road.

If one did come to OZ there is NT with its no speed limit or the Pacific Hwy between the Gold Coast and Brisbane !! lol there are always street racers on there late at night going 300+

Someone is bound to have a go at wringing a top speed out of it on a road - most oval test tracks are too "tight" for 400 km/h, but a long straight road would be ideal........David Piper took his Porsche 917 to 230 mph on public roads in South Africa in the early 70s. How long before some lottery winner or British soccer player prangs one?!

In fact here's Thrust SSC popping down to the shops on a dirt road somewhere in the UK, so the Bugatti has a way to go to catch up.......

Taste is a very subjective thing, but I don't like the look of the Veyron. I would much rather a 1:18 model of Thrust SSC as I think that is a stunning piece of machinery!

Last seen being carted away, foaming at the mouth........

We have the Bugatti EB 16.4 Veyron (possibly) close to production, but what about the EB 16.3 Chiron?

I have a 1:43 model of Thrust SSC on lay-by. Believe me even in this scale its a monster of a model and will have to sit outside the cabinet in its own display case (which it comes with) as its not gonna fit in when i get it home. It's around 43cm in 1:43 scale. This model i have waited for a long time. Will be added to my modest but growing collection of Land Speed Cars.

A 1:18 scale model would truly be huge, what around a metre long....

Bizzare Models makes the model in 1:43 scale.

Cheers,

Timbo.

P.S. Thanks for the photo Nick....its sensational. i have the video of Thrust SSC on Black Rock. Brings a lump to the throat when the team breaks the sound barrier and take the record with the 2nd successful run. The best of British...............

I have a one hour documentary on Thrust SSC breaking the sound barrier which is fantastic. The thing is just an awesome piece of machinery.

Most larger newsagents in Australia have a selection of UK motor magazines (they're usually just to the left of all the ute, V8 Supercar, custom Commodore, street machine, Jap boy racer and Australian Knife Collector magazines), and several of the recent and current ones have road tests of the Bugatti beast! Evo, Octane, Car, Top Gear (soon to be on TV in Oz), and a few others have featured the monster. Worth looking out for!
