I was a bit bored and thought i would do the championship table with the drop your worst round, i also put the number before their name so you know where they were. I did it quickly so some info might be wrong. Sorry if this has already been done somewhere, i just haven't seen it. With the worst round dropped, it certainly makes the championship race alot closer, for example skaife with all rounds is 162 behind ambrose, with adelaide gone he is only 78. Makes for an interesting fight :)
Max.

Bloody silly that we have to do this at all. Why don't they just use the Moto GP points system and be done with it.
This does NOT make the series easy to follow for the casual fan and is not a good thing.

Oh, I dunno. I think it adds a bit of interest. Skaife's season would be pretty well stuffed otherwise. If it's really close towards the end & one bad race ruins your chances, then I like it.

I deal with a lot of people that don't follow the sport that closely but pay attention to it because I do. Trying to explain what's going on is a pain in the butt!
Just too confusing I think.

Anyone else take notice of Ingals face when he was told he was leading the series  , after taking into account the dropping of the worst round, on the V8 superstars show last Sunday arvo - wasnt he chuffed LOL ;)

I don't mind the dropping the worst round idea, but I follow the series so know whats going on. Yeah agree, for the occasional watcher it could be a little confusing.

wayno, i know this slightly off subject but along the lines you have discussed above.

At easter creek i went friday sat and sunday. On sunday i took a friend of mine who is not really into Motorsport but he like sport in general, He like the buzz and the noise and he actually thought the spectacle was good. But at the end of the day he said he would never come back again. I was surprised and i asked him why?

His response was,
Could not figure out who was in front after the pitstops, no leader board.
Cars too loud and or speakers not loud enough.
Bad food.
And struggled to tell the differece betweed ford and holdens ( also i found it hard explaining why only two type of cars)

I too this on board and prior to this i did not give it much though be he could be correct. I think oz racing is fine becuase i would go and watch a lawn mower race, but I only represent a small minority of the paying public.
what do you all think?

Bang, whacked the nail right on the head... Sad but true..

I wonder if they could have another set of lights to indicate 1st, 2nd & 3rd? Could be operated by race control...

I never thought of it until now..

Wholeheartedly agree. The motor sport fan like you or me will go and watch anything and enjoy it because we love and understand it.
However, this is not the market we need to aim at. Guys like most of us here on the forum have been putting up with substandard amenities, bad and expensive food and a lot of other problems for far too long. Geez, I went to touring car races in the 70's!
V8 Supercar is an expensive sport. Because of this we need to attract new spectators to get us on to the same level as football and cricket. Despite what WE think we are not yet a mainstream sport. If you don't believe me just look at the media any race week-end. Apart from 10 where do you see a result outside of Bathurst on the news?
The sport needs to be understandable to the average Joe 6 pack and I think at the moment it isn't. If it was easier to follow then we would have more of a chance. Budgets now are huge. Why would a sponsor want to spend the same money in V8's that they could on a football team or the like? Non auto related sponsors are the future of this sport, but how do we attract them instead of having them drop out?
The sport is great and I love it, BUT, I think it's time it started to look at the bigger picture or else it will never move on from the level it is at now.
Please note this is only my opinion, so don't shoot me!
:D :D

The whole points structure was to be based on consistancy. Say you could finish in the top 3 all year and be in with a chance in the championship. That kind of made sence to me, but not enough reward in winning a race.

Taking away your worst round makes a joke of the current points structure and talk of consistancy.

I agree with certain other posters in here. We need something like MotoGP, pretty much rewards a race winner and place getters and those who plod around the track in 22nd position get sweet bugger all.

I sat at the top of the straight and we had no real idea on what was going on during the races. We basically watched the cars drive through a few corners and down the straight and that was it. Maybe extra screens like in years past would have made the race more interesting for those of us up the top of the straight.

Maybe in future I will save the 250 odd dollars on the weekends passes on the wife, myself and the young one and watch it on TV at home with a few cold ales and decent warm food.

I can understand the series wanting to look after the corporate folks as they bring dollars into the sport, but they need to look after the fans as well, because without the paying fans there would be no major sponsers either.

Ever tried explaining the rules of rugby to a Victorian, or the rules of Aussie rules to a NSWelshman...It is very difficult to understand the rules of any sport/game you've never been a part of...

Inter,
Agree that they need a totem pole to show the leaders, but otherwise those questions could be said of any sport...

I can't hear the PA at AFL games over the roar of the crowd...and if you want commentary then you have to pack a radio...

likewise I never understood why only two teams were allowed on the field at a time...and on a muddy day, you can't tell which team has the ball!!! These come under the Rules of the sport...

If somebody is not interested (as many are not in cars) then there is no point forcing the issue...No matter what incentives there are, I will never even watch synchronised swinmming on TV, let alone attend an event...

Very much the case...SBR's own press release on 29 May shows the championship order after subtracting the worst round (Click here (http://www.stonebrothersracing.com.au/asp/index.a sp?sid=1796&page=newsinfoitem&sub=pr&cid=4873&id=578))...

The fact that people can't tell the difference between the two makes is laughable. Most of the Falcon's have a blue window strip with FORD written on them and the Holden's have a red window strip with HOLDEN. So unless they are blind, can't read and coloured blind it shouldn't really be that hard to pick the difference.

Myself I don't believe that you should drop any round. If you want to play the game properly you should have to make all the rounds count, and for every driver to earn every point they get that goes towards winning the Championship.

And if they issist on dropping the worst round WHY doesn't the points system indicate this at the end of each round of the series. The way it is unless you know all the results from the top 5-6 drivers (could be more, depends on how close they are, ) its anyones guess who is actually on top.

Dropping your worst round doesn't happen in Baseball, Cricket or Boxing to name a few so why do it in the V8 Series.

Drop your worst round. What a load of crock.

Personally not keen on the "Drop your worst round rule"...It's a bit like the "Second chance barrel" for dud lotto tickets !! Also have to agree that one of the most frustrating things in races with pitstops is trying then to keep tabs on who is where. I think as a general ratio, most of us watch the majority of races on TV..So i have long wondered why it seems so difficult for CH10 to simply run the same routine as NASCAR, where a constant & continual stream of race positions is run accross the top or bottom of the screen ?? Those at the track who can see a screen then also have a chance of knowing what the go is too... Even if they covered the period around the Pitstop Window it would be a major step into the 21st century !!!
