I doubt it'll be a "high volume" release since Grice / Percy names don't have the same appeal as Moffat, Brock, and Johnson. My personal view is that like some V8Supercars, this one should be made in production run of about 1,000. Sorry, I just don't see a big market for this model.

Regards,

Sergey

As this is only the second Group A Commodore released I think you'll be surprised at the demand for it. That said, I would predict a pretty limited run for it as well. I think about 2000 would be on the mark.

I seem to remember 1800 being the number mentioned...?

I hope if this one doesn't sell well that it doesn't scupper any further Walkinshaw releases. Perhaps short runs of others would be better, as there are several attractive VLs that were driven by less popular drivers (including Walkinshaw himself!).

Nick, I'm pretty sure that Admin said that they will be doing the Walkinshaw/Allam Special Vehicles VL and that would be the last Walkinshaw VL done done after the Grice/Percy car.

i dont think this car will be very popular. the grice cars that will, are the a9x, the 100mph bathusrt commodore, the stp car and the 86 bathurst winner. this one didnt do anything special

Is the Walkinshaw/Allam car pre or post the collapsed suspension on Mountain Straight?

Maybe it will come packaged in its own little shipping container with UK markings on it saying Top Secret - Don't show the Aussies:D

I'd like to see a really embarresed 1:18 Tom Walkinshaw figure to go with it!

The cheek of that man! He's quiyte a legend in his own bath water. What really annoyed me was that the HDT had ben working on that motor for 6-8 months, it was still at Bertie St when the "divorce" happened, and suddenly TWR were claimed to have produced a "new" motor etc

Did you guys see Tom in the HRT pit garage at Shanghai on the telly?

Well, everything else has collapsed on him so he has to do something with his time. Anyone remember him saying the lack of performance from HRT was bad for his HSV business?
Well he must be over the moon with the results of HSV Racing!
I think he's definately trying to set himself up to take over HRT again. Holden giving him a position at Holden Motorsport have basically given their tacit approval to this in my eyes.

I think you're quite right Wano, I wonder what they were thinking?

As a Pom I ought to leap to his defence..... TWR (in no particular order) developed the successful Olds IRL engine, ran Arrows F1, Nissan Le Mans team, built the Aston DB7, developed the Jaguar XJ220 and XJR-15, ran the Rover Vitesses that ran away with the British Touring Car Championship, raced RX-7s, won the ETCC in a Jaguar XJS, won the WSCC and won Le Mans with a Jaguar, designed the suspension of the Escort RS2000 (pre-TWR though), developed JaguarSport, was engineering director of Benetton F1 with M Schumacher winning regularly, ran the Volvo touring cars and Kenny Roberts bike team (not much success though), blitzed the 1996 V8 season, used the V64V engine in the MG Metro 6R4 and the Jaguar XJ220, rebuilt the XJR-9 into the XJR-15, and then rebuilt the XJR-14 into the Mazda 767, selling it again to Nissan for the R390, and again to Joest for their double Le Mans winning Porsche. So he hasn't done too badly.......but he has a knack of annoying people.

I think Nick is reffering to the 1996 V8 season where Lowndes won the title, Sandown and Bathurst.

Yeah i realised that about 5 minutes after posting it, i had the 85 Jag's stuck in my head. Were the Jag's run under TWR in 85?

MarkHM

yes they were, although sponsored by JRA

Yes, TWR was instrumental in the Jag victory, which followed successes in Europe. Tom himself was a driver of an XJS at Bathurst, sadly being hit on the startline and going no further. He was a decent driver, despite occasional lack of results through failures of one kind or other. I know his Aussie connections caused some resentment, but I loved his VL, the Nissan, Mazda and XJR Jag sports racers. Plus the MG Metro 6R4 was a fine car produced by collaboration with TWR and Williams Grand Prix Engineering, amongst others, and so anyone who can make so many wonderful cars rates highly in my book......

He ended up third at Bathurst didn't he in 1985 driving with Win Percy, despite their Jag developing an incredible thirst for oil?

So do people think this will be popular? I'm thinking of getting this one, but can't decide if I'll buy it on the site or at my local shop. I can get it slightly cheaper at my local shop. Maybe I'll just watch and see how long this thing takes to sell out here. All in all a good model.

Yes thats right Wayno.

Nick - I think you are referring to 1984 re: the startline crash. TWR had come on board the John Goss Group C Jaguar program for the 1984 1000. Tom started the race from 10th on the grid, but due to clutch failure went no where, and was collected by the Tesserero (spelling?)/Tindall Chev Camaro.

In 1985 TWR came back with 3 Group A Jaguar XJS's. They went 1-2-3 in qualifying, and after Hardies Heroes Walkinshaw had pole. He and Percy dominated the race, ultimatly falling back with their problems to an eventual 3rd place. The Goss/Armin Hahne Jag did win the race though.

I think there is a market for the Grice name, and as this car only competed a handful of times in Grice's hands (Bathurst '88 & AGP '88, Winton, Bathurst and AGP '89, any else?), i think it is a great addition :)

Well after mulling it over last night I finally decided to get this model as it is a mighty fine looking car and will look good next to the 1990 Bathurst winner.
Actually to be honest I was going to wait a while but every time I visit the site I see this model on the home page and I like it more and more so I succumbed:)
Very sneaky of u admin to keep showing these fantastic models on the home page, keep this up and I'll be after that Enzo Ferrari next!!!

Back to Nick's comments, and off the VL subject matter, I recall that Tom's crew basically took over the John Goss car in 1984 and reworked it as they saw fit ... fair enough, to end up qualifying tenth.

But, it may have been wiser to have Johnny Goss start the car as it still ran his clutch arrangement and Goss was arguably more familiar with non-rolling starts.

Still, 1985's Bathurst made up for the disappointments of 1984, at least for Gossy if not entirely for Uncle Tom.
