while watching the shanghai round of the V8 i noticed that skaife's car there was a window net type thing running down the centre of the car, looked like it went from the centre of the dash, up to the roll cage near the drivers seat. did anyone else notice this, what is it for, and does anyone else use it? sorry if this has already been discussed.

attached is a pic of the web in question in skaife's car

they said something in one of the earlier rounds about it being there to keep his arm in check if there's an incident..

Only the two HRT cars use it.

An extra bit of safety the team has chosen to work into the cars.

Will these be incorporated into the 2005 HRT cars being modelled?

Yes, I've requested the factory include this webbing on cars 2 and 22.

Concur with Richard & in fact I think you will find the quite a large number of Nascar BGN & Nextel cup cars have the same setup... Just a bit more insurance to keep the driver firmly in the seat in the event of a major prang.

i am pretty sure it is compulsary for all cars in 2006 to have thet webbing
i also think both "BOC" car have it as well becouse the two time's
Brad Jones rolled, he was saying it is hard to get out of it when you're upside down

richie, will the window net also be attached to the body rather than the window frame as per the 2005 regs?

Wasn't Brad talking about the HANS device?

I'm pretty sure that webbing is an extension to the head and neck safety device (HANS). There you go HSVLOVER.

I thought it looked more attached to the seat and behind, maybe the rollcage.

Great to see Biante going the extra yard and incorporating that little bit of extra detail once again. Must admit I'm looking forward to this years HRT cars. I'm just a little dissapointed they didn't run a special livery in China as this would have made a great model with Todd winning.

I just noticed on the HRT website, there is a 50 round win piece of memorabillia, was put up very quickly. I bet that has been sitting in the HRT basement for quite some time, i'm sure they would of thought the big 50 would of come sooner.

Design & visual impact wise, not a bad effort but the wallet/ credit card would have a cardiac arrest re price..I would rather have 6 1/18 scale models, 16 1/43 scale or about 53 1/64ths thanks !!!

No the webbing is for latral (or side movement) specifically of the arms etc.

The Hans device sits on the shoulders of the driver, where it is held in position by the seatbelts, there are two straps from this device that attach to points on the helmet, to stop whiplash of the neck under extreme deceleration during accidents (see here for more details (http://hansdevice.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.43/.f).. .

It was the Hans device that caused Jones grief when upside down, but using the quick release straps fixes the problems he had.

Cheers
