I was recently watching the DVD of the 1967 Gallaher 500 at Bathurst. Happened to actually take notice of of the commentator at the start with his quote : "56 feet tread on the pedal & some One Hundred Thousand $'s surges forward ". Sure that was to a degree not TOTALLY exact in that someone did actually sit down & work out an EXACT and factual total, but just roughly if let's say that the complete field of 56 cars was worth even DOUBLE that,...In 2005 you could not put a spare donk, two sets of skins & a pair of gloves on the start line for that money, let alone 56 cars !!! Progress I suppose.....
