View Full Version : There was a time when I would never have spent $70.00 on a model.

Man three years ago I would not have even considered spending $70.00US on a model. Then I got into the WRC kick and said hey what a great idea! Why not collect 1:18 model WRC cars. The amount of money I have spent is ludicrous...and whats even more disgusting is the fact that I enjoy it so much!!!!!!!

What brought this up was the fact that I have found 2 models on ebay that I am going to bid on.

Its funny how picky I have become. At first I was looking for the cheapest models. What an amateur I was. Then I got my first AutoArt model. Well after then it had to be autoart!

Sorry for rabitting on...didn't realise that I wrote so much lol

Mate, we've all been there! I had seen an UT Porsche 911 GT2 in red for 17 quid and thought it was too expensive for a "toy" (I wasn't collecting at the time but had liked the look of the model) - later, when I was collecting, it was going for over 100 quid on eBay and I would have been happy to get one for 50 quid.......It makes no sense.....And yes, I think just about everyone who has been collecting for a while changes their focus in one way or other - quality of model and brand preferences, less wide-scale and more themed now that the range is ever bigger, or more wide-ranging as new stuff is released etc. I've gone from only Falcon Cobras and race XC hardtops, to any classic Aussie car, to any touring, sports racer or classic rally car, and that means a bigger and bigger want list........

FYI, both of those models are excellent. I have the Peugeot model and it's one of my favourites. The detail and finish of the model is very impressive. Regarding the Citroen model, it's also a lovely model, but be aware that it is sealed model and none of the doors etc open (but then you might already know that). All the interior detail is still up to the usual Autoart standard. Both models will make great additions to your collection, especially that Peugeot 206.

Have the Citroen myself. Don't let the closed shell thing put you off. It's a cracking model and for a retail in the 70 dollar mark can't be beaten.
More models should be made in this way I think.

Thanx for the good words on the models. Yeah the sealed door thing caught me off guard but seeing as they are displayed all the time with the doors closed it wouldn't make too much difference. So I am looking foward to these very much!
Now all I need is AutoArt to make a Skoda Fabia, Lancer 04 or 05, and an 04 focus and my collection is complete.

once upon a time I used to think bburago/maisto was all the rage, and would NEVER consider paying over $50.00 AUD for a model lol.

I then discovered a brand starting with B, which ended with E. Now, I'm living in penury...

I said i would never buy a 28c torana for more than $250, then i got wind of one for what these days is concidered a cheap price so i bought it.

So $330.00 later i bought something i said i never would, but gee it looks good next to all my other P.Brock 1:18's

What!! With the 1971 machine in the pipeline, the1969 Monaro already out and the 1972 and 1973 also available, one will have a gaping hole in one's collection.
I for one could not tolerate this :D

Bert have you and Wayno been emailing each other about this or something ? He has on numerous occassions told me how it will leave a hole in my collection ( according to him ) but i would prefer to get the P.brock cars that either were a winning car or significant in other ways.

I.E 69 first drive
72 first win
75 second win
76 first time a drop tank was used
77 A9X first Bathurst

You see where im going :D

But as i said at this stage never say never

Well, it's as significant as a drop tank being used for the first time! :p

Well I have purchased one of 2 so far. I bought the Peugeot 206. I am still deciding whether I want the 2003 or 2004 Monte Xsara. I prefer the large white square the # was on rather than the new rectangle. Sounds silly but thats my dilema.

I sympathise, rallying83.
My first model was a Vitesse 1998 Rally Monte Carlo, Carlos Sainz Corolla WRC in 1:43.
It was AUS$45. I had to put it on layby because I felt paying that much for a model car was very expensive.

How one moves on....:D
