Just got my new 1:18 scale Black STi WRX by Autoart.
I've got to say how impressed i am with it - it looks sensational!!
Is there any hope of Biante taking some WRC Blue STi's and painting them to look like Possum Bournes rally car? I'm sure they will sell like 'hotcakes'
What about making a couple of Possum's previous ARC winning rally cars - RS Liberty, 4 door WRX, 2 door WRX, the Prodrive WRC WRX & Group N WRX STi , for example.

And Michael Guest's WRX as well, the one with the Winfield signage, even though they wouldn't put it on there. I'd like to see more WRC cars also. The Peugeots look awesome....

Ford Focus rally cars too...............they look great in 1:32 scale with lights...zooming around my slotcar sets.
Will be interesting when the FOCUS reaches our fair shores....I'm betting it will do well...

Hey Timbo, i don't want to sound rude, but i don't really care about the Focus - autoart make just about every european version of this car, be it a rally or road car (have a look at their website) - what i was asking was about an Australian WRX and in particular, Possum Bournes.
cheers

I saw a Ford Focus in a Ford dealership the other day. I think they are already here. We get some sporty one, can't remember what it's called.
For Glen Alexander, Vitesse released a Michel Guest Hyundai WRC Accent from Finland rally 2000 in Winfeild colours in 1/43.
When I was loking for this car,I asked someone at Sherrifs minicars, they said they didnt have any but at some stage they had a Possum Bourne 1/43 WRC WRX STI!!!!
Tell us about this one admin...........

I haven't heard anything about a Possum Bourne Subaru in any scale, and it is something I have been after for a long time. Bourne's success deserves a model car - maybe even a three car set of his notable cars: Impreza 4 door Group A; Impreza WRC; and new Group N. Alternatively, Subaru Australia, in conjunction with Biante, could produce a three car set of this year's championship factory Subaru's - Bourne's, Corocker's andHerridge's cars. The iXO moulds could be used, and it could be presented in corporate blue packaging in a limited run of approx. 3000. It would make a nice addition to the Prodrive cars currently being produced from the UK, and would celebrate Subaru's, and Bourne's contribution and success in the Australian Rally Championship. I hasten to add that these sets would have to be 1:43. Alternatively, AutoArt have the moulds of the old Impreza WRC and new Impreza WRC, and new STi that could form the basis of a 1:18 Bourne car.
Would there be any takers?

I'm definitely interested (1:18 preferably).
Any potential additions to my sube collection are of great interest to me.

While not specifically model car related, as this thread started, take a look at the Subaru Australia website's store, and click on the Limited Edition framed triple photo of the three factory Subaru Australia team cars from this season, all signed. Would look nice on the wall (if I could get past the price).

Me again. I have emailed both Subaru Australia and Possum Bourne Motorsport in New Zealand, canvassing the possibility of producing a limited run of Possum Bourne/Subaru Australia team cars for collectors, in the same way Prodrive do for the Subaru World Rally Team. I put my case, cited this thread, but am not holding my breath.
This was a case where I couldn't just sit on my hands and moan about there not being a model, but actually did something. I hope that we get a positive response and the promise of an upcoming Possum Bourne release.

Hi, here is a picture of Possum's 2000 Rally NZ car, made from Tamiya's 1/24 scale kitset, can make to order! Can also do his 1999 Rally NZ or Canberra car.

Come on guy's , maybe if we can get enough replies to this forum it may motivate Subaru Aust, Biante, etc to get a Possum Bourne Subaru into production. I appears that there is such a market for this model.
anyone listerning ?????
Glen Alexander
03-10-2002, 05:02 PM
Not only would the cars look great, but maybe figurines of the drivers and navigators to go with cars. If they did make a Possum Bourne car I would buy it straight away. I think I would prefer his current Group N car, not the WRC, as I already have 3 WRC Imprezas and don't really need anymore!!!!
Maybe we should set up a petition style email to send on to Subaru Australia and Biante, if we get enough names on it, they'd certainly have to consider it.

Andrew,
how about sharing those email addresses so that we can all sent them emails asking for a Possum model. Sort of a petition type thing.
Anyone else interested in doing such a thing ?
Edwardo
04-10-2002, 11:02 AM
I agree that a petition is the way to go, but rather than inundate Sube/Biante etc with a flood of emails, that a single petition compilation be organised and sent to them, as Glen suggested.
Andrew

Its great that there seems to be a bit of support for such a model - I bet that if Subaru/Possum Bourne also took models with them around Australia to the various rallies they were competing in, they would sell out in no time. People were after anything Subaru they could get their hands on after the last Super Special stage at the Subaru Safari Rally in Tasmania. A model car would have sold like proverbial 'hotcakes'.
As for a petition with everyone's names on it - in electronic form I doubt I'd have the nous to do something like that.
If people are interested, here are the contacts I used:
go to: http://subaru.com.au/feedback/ and on the left of the page there is a link titled 'Contact Us'. Click on that, fill out your details and make your request. As to the subject I sent my idea to, I clicked on 'suggestion' in the drop-down box.
For Possum Bourne, I went to http://www.possumbourne.co.nz/index.html and clicked on the email address at the bottom of the page. Easy.
I argued the reasons as to why they should collaborate and produce a model/set, and even outlined the fact that iXO, Trofeu and AutoArt already make the moulds of the Subaru's concerned in 1:43 and 1:18. I wanted to give it every chance of success. I also posted a link to this forum, and with the extra replies since I did that, it should help (if they actually bother to come here and have a look).
If any one else wants to give it a go, go for it and good luck. I checked my email a day after I sent my requests and I have received no reply from either of them as yet. I hope Subaru Australia and Possum Bourne Motorsport are giving it a good think.
Cheers,
Andrew

I've made a poll on the forum regarding this model and hopefully if we can get enough people to say they want one, they may just produce it.
I would love it made in 1:43 so as fit in with the rest of my rally cars which are that scale. Also, 1:43 is far cheeper to make it may be more likely that they make us one. Say a limited run of 2 or 3000 cars, like the quanties the Prodrive models are made in.
cheers.
Richard or Admin,
have you been hearing this?
Possibly a run of 2000-3000 1/43 of Possums 2002 winner wouldn't be too much trouble.

Has anyone thought of going to IXO themselves? on their website: when its working! they talk about how they can produce limited runs of models for special events, min. order is about 3000 i think, if we could get 3000 people ourselves we could petition/request the run from them, otherwise admin? could be a lot easier- i'm in support!
Andrew
22-11-2002, 11:00 AM
I'm definitely in support too.
And I still haven't heard back from either Possum Bourne Motorsport, or Subaru Australia. Hardly surprising really....
Actually to be fair, their main game is, in Subaru Australia's case, to sell cars, not deal in models. And Possum Bourne is there to build and race cars. So maybe I should have gone straight to iXO (but I don't qualify as a corporate customer to order a special build...)
Is this something that Admin have thought about at all? (It would be a big ask too considering their commitment to building Australian cars)
admin
22-11-2002, 11:38 AM
To all the contributors....we have already put this recommendation to iXO, have Possum's approval and have photographed the cars.
Andrew, we do development and research for quite a few of our 4000 odd products for our 8 suppliers, so leave this one to us.
And we have also spoken to Neil Bates about his new car before someone lamps onto that one as well!
Thanks.
Andrew
22-11-2002, 12:31 PM
Thankyou Admin, that is the best news I've heard for a long time.
We may be about to be rewarded fellow ARC fans!
I don't suppose to be as presumptuous as to ask a tentative release schedule? First half 2003 perhaps? ;)
Thanks for the news admin,
You've made all ARC fans happy now.
You suggested Possums and Bates cars.
Maybe the 2 other factory suburus of Herridge and Crocker and 2 factory Mitsubushi's of Ordinski and Lowndes could also be in the pipeline.Even the Simon Evans sub would be excellent
Andrew
22-11-2002, 12:47 PM
Hmmm, SWRT, I think you have something there. Combine the Bourne, Crocker and Herridge factory Subaru Australia rally team cars together in a 3 car Subaru/Biante set (like Prodrive are doing). Would look absolutely fantastic. Or of course, wait til the end of the next year, and maybe release Possums's 2002 and 2003 cars together in a twin set (assuming he wins next year's championship of course...)
Bates' Corolla... That would be a Minichamps mould wouldn't it?
Ordynski and Lowndes' factory Evo VII and Evo VI respectively in a Ralliart Australia/Biante twin pack. Using iXO/Vitesse moulds...
Simon Evans' Subaru would have to use Trofeu's older 4 door moulds, which I see as unlikely. But that silver and black 'Hella' sponsorship (with a bank of big driving lights on the front) would look the goods...
Ah, see what one little bit of good news from Admin can do? It gets the hypotheticals going.
Team Pedder Mitsubushis would be a good addition,Rick Bates Suburu,Michel Guests Evo 7 and Yamaguchis Evo 6(won the 1st stage in the Harbour city rally 2002).

With Possum's success over the years he deserves a model!
Look forward to it; THANKS BIANTE, Subaru all the way!!!!!

So admin, what sort of time frame to you expect to have this model avaliable ?
I was talking to Subaru head office today about such a car & the people in the merchandicing dept. new nothing about it.
Are these models being done by the teams of the factory ?

Have there been any talk to Subaru Australia lately ?
I have been talking to them over the past few days, mentioned the IXO company and the fact that they produce in small quanties and have done the new WRX.
Their responce "we don't feel that there is enought demand for such an item"
I just hope Biante does it anyway, as I feel that they're wrong & they'll sell like hotcakes !!!

Hey guys, i just saw that autoart and Subaru USA released a 1/18 of the team USA impreza from last yr, they look excellent, any chance of an Aussie version?
Andrew
05-12-2002, 10:34 AM
Hey Tumbo, can you post a link to this USA Impreza?
I'd love a 1:18 Possum Bourne Impreza, in any of the range of cars he has driven. I've an idea - Biante has:
Allan Moffat Collection
Peter Brock Collection
Dick Johnson Collection
What about a Possum Bourne Collection (some time in the future)? A history of his Australian Championship winning cars from his 4dr Group A monster to his Impreza WRC '99 and WRC 2000 in the Subaru Australia colours, to the WRC 2000 in the Havoline sponsorship in which he has competed in the Queenstown Gold Rush mountain climb (I think its called that), Rally New Zealand, and assorted Asia-Pacific rallies. All in 1:18! What an outstanding collection that would be. AutoArt have all the moulds currently (with some rejigging needed for rally car specification). It may be supplemented later with a 1:18 Subaru Liberty/Legacy (if ever built) in blue and yellow that Possum campaigned with his late co-driver Rodger Freeth. That would be a memorable model in more ways than one. All cars would look great with 1:18 figurines, with Possum in his various drivers' overalls, with and without moustache...
Then after Possum Bourne's career has been modelled, start on the notable Toyotas of Neil Bates and Coral Taylor, from the Celica GT4 in its different guises (including their Targa cars), to the Corolla WRC in its different paint jobs (including his factory drive with Toyota Team Europe at the 1997 Rally of Indonesia), through to his current prototype Corolla on GT4 running gear, which we understand is being considered for a 1:43 release.
Of course, these cars would look simply stunning in 1:18, but I'd be just as happy if they could be modelled in 1:43.....
brchi17
05-12-2002, 10:58 AM
Tumbo,
do you know if this is being made in 1:43 ?
Which American car is it ?
I've seen that the American WRX (I think it was also a group N car)ran with a different rear spoiler (looked like the old STi from the MY00) rather than the regular wedge type that we see on the Australian group N cars.
cheers.

All of the models I own, save for 2 F1 cars, a V8 and a 22B are swrt cars:
I get my Trofeu rally cars through my model shop here in Bris, Hobby & Model Centre, in City Plaza, on the corner of George and Adelaide Sts, they are excellent and know their models!
i get all my 1/43 autoart through them as well, they order them for me from Biante, if they didn't order any they fax in my orders for me, as any good model shop should do!
they also get my 1/43 IXOs, however, i still need to find RAM 49, Burns' safari 01, and RAM 02 Martin's monte, so i'll probably find another store in Aust. and get them to send them too me.
My 1/18's have been harder to find, i get them where i find them, 2 of which have come from my model store in the city, the others from around Qld, and at the Brisbane motor show, where i hope to get Solberg's 1/18 portugal.
My prodrive trofeu models i got from the delaers, 2 in the UK and one here in oz
I would still like to know though, admin, whether the 1/18 rally deutschland will be coming in?! PLEASE i need this model to complete my collection!!!!!!!!!

Just got my SWRT Rally Corsica twin set, and it is sensational. Does anyone else have theirs?
It is very stylish, and looks great, although I may have thought there would have been a little more imagery on the base plate -maybe a hologram of the SWRT logo or something to go alongside the drivers' signatures etched onto the base....
But I am very happy with it, and the 3000 build number is excellent too. A great little package.
I also have the 'Prodrive Alive' car on layby too - the one celebrating the opening of the new Prodrive facilities at Banbury. Doesn't look too bad, but the low build of 2500 and the fact that it is a genuine Prodrive release means I had to bite the bullet and grab it.

06-12-2002, 09:56 AM
Andrew,
good to hear, I've been thinking about purchasing the same models over the past couple of days.
Does the prodrive celebration car have any similuarities to the rally cars ?
cheers.
Andrew
06-12-2002, 10:51 AM
Basically with the Prodrive celebration car, it is the current Impreza WRC without all the SWRT graphics and signwriting. I only saw it for a few minutes while I put it on layby before it was put away for me, but look at the picture on the website:
http://www.biante.com.au/merchandise.cfm?mode=view&MerchandiseID=10913
That is the car. But come to think of it, I can't recall a roll cage (doesn't mean its not there though). Looking back at that image from the website, it also has the Prodrive Impreza road wheels rather than the WRC rims.
As it is not in my possession just yet, I can't really comment on whether you should get it or not, but if you are a Prodrive collector, it is a must.
The Corsica twin set is a 'must-purchase'. I have it here in front of me, and interestingly, Tommi's car is at the back (#10) while Petter's car (#11) is at the front. There is a plaque on the front left side with the individual production number and other information.
The plaque has three lines:
...... / 3000
Prodrive Limited Edition
Tour De Corse 2002
Very simple, yet stylish and, dare I say it, sophisticated.
One thing I have noticed is that Tommi's car has an extra black band across the windscreen below the 'Subaru' writing, whereas Petter's car doesn't. I'll have to check back to the photos of the real car on that event to see whether that is as it should be. You might be able to see it from Biante's picture:
http://www.biante.com.au/merchandise.cfm?mode=view&MerchandiseID=10713
I'll post my own close up of it when I take some shots with my camera, if anyone's interested.
Overall, an excellent set.

I have my corsica on layby and agree that it is stunning, brilliant even- what i want though, is the rally deutschland 1/18 with figures, if the pic looks see attatchment, then what must the real thing look like?
Trofeu who did the 555 cars ran both the proper 555 and the bannana ones brchi17, the bannana's for most of the original wrx's, and for the 97 monte and GB rallies- it was actually run with the bannanas in the real 97 GB, and Colin's monte ran with them- for some reason though Liatti didn't, from pics that i have seen. trofeu ran the proper 555 for the 97 safari and the 98 portugal. hope this helps

The modelcarsfreeserve site is great.. emailed the guy yesterday, reply today. i asked if he'd do a transkit of McRae's 98 GB, and got a polite yes answer back, this means i'll have a swrt wrc from all the GB's they've competed in 97-01, and 02 should come out soon!!!

About the attachments Tumbo - patience. Admin has to check them first to make sure people don't post inappropriate material (for obvious reasons), and they are busy enough without having to check every attachment that lands onto the forums. They will be posted soon, when Admin have a few minutes to check that the attachments are ok.
As to the transkits - great stuff. Any idea of the cost? What is the donor car?

They should cost about 45 GBpounds, same as the others i assume. i've asked if the donor car can be Kankunnen's 99 Monte, its the only Trofeu Subaru with the single air vent on the top and red seat belts. the only qualm i have with autoart is the fact that the 99 cars are incorrect!!! they ran with Blue seatbelts after the Monte rally, and they had the single air scoop from the beginning. for my money i hope to get the right car!! but, the new ones have been correct, aside from the yellow decals... but hey...

Something I would love Prodrive to release - the old McRae, Liatti, Sainz, Eriksson cars etc. in proper Prodrive packaging. A great one for instance would be for Prodrive to release the '98 Rally GB twin set of C. McRae and A. McRae, maybe even with Vatanen's car making it a three pack! That would save you Tumbo, the need to purchase a transkit McRae '98 Rally GB.
I can't see how Prodrive could get the rights to McRae's name etc now though to build a retrospective set.

Great pics Andrew.
I ordered mine (from Biante of course!!!) on the weekend, so I'll expect to see them later in the week.
Now how good would a 7 pack of all of Possum Bournes ARC winning car look ?
Fantastic, I reccon!!!
It would be a dear set of 1:43, but I would be one I wouldn't want to miss !!!!!
Dreaming again,
cheers.

Hmmm... just noticed something about the IXO 2001 Subarus of Burns and Martin - they have the wrong number of side mirrors. Burns's car should only have the right side mirror and Martins car only the left one.
Or am I wrong?

Brchi17, I think your idea of a seven car Bourne set of his championship winning cars is a great one. I pondered something like that before, but as separate releases - not as a set (which would be prohibitively expensive, but infinitely better).
Pille, I'm not sure about your iXO observations. I would have to check that out against photos of the cars from the events. I was sure though that the SWRT Trofeu production of the '99 Rally GB set of Burns and Kankkunen suffered a similar inaccuracy about the mirrors, but that could have been me.
I visited the local Subaru dealership here in Hobart yesterday where they have an STi for sale that is completely 'done up' in Possum Bourne's rally colours, even down to the number on the door, and Bourne's and Stacey's names on the rear window. It is only an STi however, in road trim, not a copy of his rally car as it does not have any roll cage, extinguisher etc. The car, I was told, was 'tarted up' to coincide with the Subaru Safari Rally here - Tasmania's round of the ARC. They just haven't gotten around to removing the decals.
I am posting 3 pics of it.

So I would be right in think that this is a real one (1:1scale)?
If it isnt' (which I doubt) how about sending the deatils of which dearler it is.
Docklands also have some mock rally cars in their showroom (last time I was there), but sometimes they actually have the real ones, as it's the new home of Subaru Rally Team Australia.
Anyone who has been there, will know that SRTA have their own building with a long glass wall looking into the workshop of the the rally team.
There was also a 00 WRC Impreza as well as a 22B & various STi's.
Worth a look if ever you are in town, however they tend not to change too much, so a once a year visit is enought.
cheers.

Brchi17, it certainly is a 1:1. A cool $59,000 will let you drive away in that little beauty. It is in the Hobart dealer for Subaru, Performance Automobiles, who also sell Volvo, Porsche, and Mercedes in Hobart. The Subaru showroom is separate from the Porsche/Mercedes showroom, and can be found in Macquarie St Hobart.
visit www.performanceautomobiles.com.au and all the links etc. are there.
I would dearly love to see the Docklands Subaru/STi dealership. I really want to see a 22B in the metal. And I would also like to peruse their range of merchandise too....

Thanks Richard for the reply on the Makinen 1:18 car. As there are only 1500 worldwide, how many are Biante likely to get? 20-30? More?
Further to your news on the Makinen triple pack, with Monte Carlo being included, doesn't that mean that Makinen's Monte Carlo car in 1:43 can now be bought in the special Prodrive release [PRO4302], AutoArt [A60291], as well as a standard iXO release, and now the Prodrive triple pack [A60291]? A bit of overkill on Prodrive's part isn't it.....

After buying the Autoart Monaco one separtally, I think I will pass on the 3 pack (change of mind) as I've just got the Prodrive 2 pack (car 10 & 11). I see little sense in having 5 versions of the same car from the same year, when there are little differences between all of the cars.
This may upset some of you, but its' my decision. I would rather save some of my hard earned $$$ on some next years WRX's.
Oh, & the Possum one if/when it arrives.
cheers.

Anyone head anymore about the Biante/Possum Bourne model that Admin mentioned earlier in the year.
I wonder if this model has made it to the 'in production stage' or whether it is still on the 'I wish list' ?
cheers.

I would have bought one before the tragedy, but I think it would be a nice thing if it was released. I saw on the RPM they had a tribute to him and there was a shot of someone putting down flowers around his car, it's heartbreaking. Maybe the car could be released with a tribute of some sort to a great Champion.

I caught the end of RPM before the V8 Supercars.
The tribute to Possum was very touching. What a talent we have lost there. Still can't stop thinking of his young family and the loss and grief they must be feeling.
Obviously Possum was a well respected and talented individual and a driving force behind Subaru and his own Motor Sport outfit. I'm glad though that he enjoyed his life and the work he has done. A fine legacy he has left behind for his family and team/work mates.
Rest in Peace, Possum.

I just finished watching yesterday's RPM & what they did on Possum was very, very moving.
Possum was proberly the only one of my motorsport hero's that I hadn't met.
Seeing the footage of the old Leone, Liberity & the Prodrive WRC STi was fantastic & I was very busy wiping the tears from my eyes from all of the great images of such a great driver.
A credit to RPM for such a great job on such a sad, sad topic.
At least now Possum can have a beer with Roj.

I unfortunately did not see the Possum special on RPM, much to my incredible disappointment. I hope that at some stage down the track, a special DVD/Video will be released of Possum's career - he was successful enough to warrant such a production. And he has enough fans for there to be a market for it.
I have to admit that I am still struggling to come to terms with his death. I have a few signed items in a cabinet that I stare at each day, and I just can't believe that he is gone. I only met him again just recently at the launch of the new STi.
I can't imagine how his wife and children are coping with his loss.
I hope now that a Possum Bourne car is made a priority, and we get to see one on the market by the end of the year. Eventually, a full set of Possum's cars (WRC's, Group A's etc.) would be a great thing, and take pride of place in the cabinet.
Thanks.
