Nathan Rzepecki
07-09-2005, 01:53 PM
On Thursday the 8th September 2005 we will be placing the 1975 Bathurst winner of Peter Brock and Brian Sampson on Advanced order at 2pm Perth time. This is the 17th release in the Peter Brock collection. Judging by the size of the watchlist this model is sure to be extremely sought after and will not last long. Advance orders will be shipped out early next week.

This is one model that will take pride of place in my collection. A Brock Bathurst winner without having to contribute to FF's retirement fund:D

It will be a brilliant model to have. I think this win would have to be very close to his finest on the mountain.

Car built, prepared and maintained by HDT, yep privateer;)

Well it should have had the HDT colours, not the yellow paint scheme! Still its a Brock Bathurst winner so I'll getting it...

Hey lcfp2297, I don't wish to be rude but you might want to check your facts. Gown-Hindhaugh did receive some parts from Harry and probably some technical assistance as he was still a big supporter of Brock, but to suggest it was built, prepared and maintained by HDT is just a laugh. I grew up in Box Hill and I can verify (as could a lot of teenagers from that time) where the yellow car lived and was fettled. Don't forget, before Brock joined the team it had been run by Norm and Bruce themselves during 1974 and they had a long history in motorsport with Holden cars. There is no doubt that this is probably Brocks most significant Bathurst winner (not that any of the others aren't important and unique in different ways), not only for being a genuine privateer win, but also for winning the big three of that time (Sandown, Bathurst and Phillip Island). It also showed Brocks ability to drive fast but gently given the weaknesses in the L34 drivetrain.

There was "significant" input...as was stated by Firth in an interview in one of the AMC mags...

Cant wait for this one as well...how many will be made?? will it be 6000 due to it being a Brock Car or something lowere keeping in trend with other bathurst winners with low production numbers...we see the impact of a high production for cars ie the 76 Winner by Morris & Fitzpatrick (awesome looking car) still available whereas the 68 winner was sold out in a flash

Gan88

And don't forget that some winners aren't that memorable.

The '68 car looks good, was the first Holden car to win, and had a co-driver who sat around all day except for one lap. On the other hand, the '76 winner is better known for being handed the victory... I'd rather see the HDT car from that year modeled.

" '76 being handed the victory"
To finnish first, one has to FINNISH first!
The winner is the one that crosses the finnishline first at the end of the race.
Nobody is handed a victory so far in the BATHURST lONG DISTANCE RACE as far as I can see.

"Some winners aren't that memorable"
Well there is a statement with handgrenade proportions.
Just name them that are not memorable.

Agree. EVERYONE can remember who won Bathurst in a particular year. I'll bet that most people would have more trouble with the touring car championship winners though.
Everything that won Bathurst without a blue oval on it will eventually find its way into my collection.

Depends on which side of the fence your sitting on.... I can actually see both points and feelings towards a particular race result....and what you said FF did come to my mind in fact much more ie the 69 Monaro was handed a victory if it wasnt for the poor tyre selection of Moffats 61D....but where do you draw the line..its always open to debate

Bert,

There are plenty of years where the car that I remember the best did not win. Here are a few:

1) 1987
2) 1980
3) 1988
4) 1999
5) 2000
6) 1976

Also there have been at least four occassions where the car that finished first didn't win- 1976, 1987, 1992, 1997.

Dingo

Gee, if you were going to be really pedantic and check Brock's record, you could add a batch of cars that Brock could have won Bathurst in - 1973, 1974, 1976, 1986, 1988, 1994, 1997...with a bit of (additional) fortune, Brock could conceivably have had 15 wins!!!

Aha; I did not see that it is what YOU feel is Not Memorable.
Fair enough, that is Your view.
For a car/team to be declared the winner, the main criteria is that it came first over the line and did comply to the regulations, or am I mistaken in this belief.
How can one be the best and not finnish/win??
enlighten me on
1976, Bob Morris, John Fitzpatrick
1987, Peter Brock/David Parsons/ Peter McLeod
1992, Jim Richards Mark Skaife; I do agree with this one, should have been DJR.
1997 Larry Perkins Russel Ingall

But at least one could have been taken away from him, when he jumped into the sistercar of Harvey. 1983.
Under my rules this was a claytons win.

Leigh

In 1976 the Bond Marlboro car alledgedly crossed the line first, but due to a lap scoring error, the second placed car was awarded the win...

If you are going to take '83 away from the man, then you must also take 87 away as well...as he jumped in the sister car that year too.

Have to agree. 85 I thought 05 was the star of that race.

1976 saw the lap count being buggered up.

1997 saw Paul Morris pinged for driving too long (not even sure how the 2/3 race distance rule is even relevant, if anything it will be more difficult to drive for a longer stint)

1987 saw the Eggenberger cars pinged for the inner guards, even though this would have brought no performance advantage.

1992 was the only time I have ever seen the red flag rule go back more than one lap- what a crock.

Thanks for the nice comments.

To stop the glare I use homemade light diffusers that sit just on front of my lamps, “made out of graph paper but you could use any sort of transparent paper or even a white garbage bags “ but be very careful as not to sit them to close to lamps as they can catch fire real easy.
Hope that tip helps.

BB, I have just compared the two and the height is identical at the rear, while at the front the '75 is about 1.5 mm higher.
Sorry about the height difference, I must have put too much air in the front tyres prior to shipping the model to you :D

Thanks Eliot. It sounds very similar to the 78 A9X. I put them together and the rears were identical. However the A9X is slightly higher at the front. I love the way the 76 Morris/Fitzpatrick L34 sits over the front wheels.

The model looks great but I must say where are the bonnet cables??? They are on the XD/XEs and painted on the Moffat XW/XYs but not on this another little detail missing from the Holdens....

Cameron you are quite right. I checked my Bathurst poster under a good light and magnifying glass and there are indeed bonnet cables. Nothing a dob off glue and some 20lb breaking strain fishing line won't fix though.:D

Their is an Idea.

I had a look at one of my Brock mags, with this car on its cover, yeah is sure has cables, big UGLY looking ones at that mind you that hung all the way down to the front bummper, & also glad the wind fan thing that was on the drivers wipper is not there, I will pass on adding them, but so glad that the thin black pin stipe around the bottom is there ;)

Thanks Cam for the nice comment on my photos buddy.

Cheers

Part of me is really bugged by these speculators that buy models purely for the opportunity to make a buck...my free-market side, however, believes "good on them" as they have taken a punt that it's going to be sold out and worth a bit more than they paid...Mind you I can say this in the security of having one...if I was trying to buy one on e-bay I'd be grumpy.

Pretty clever when you consider that YOUR GENERATION IS SUPPOSED TO BE MORE COMPUTER LITERATE than mine...

Maybe you should learn to do what a teacher (http://forums.biante.com.au/showthread.php?s=&postid=119797&highlight=natesv8#post119797) has asked...

But then again two auctions ended twenty minutes apart earlier today and one went for $169 and the other for $210...

Some people are seriously trying to cash in and are asking ridiculous starting bids - I've seen one for $350 and another for $400!!!

Why is it then that when you go into the FAQ's under the Brock Collection, there are 18 listed released cars???
Is the 2004 Brock/Plato car not officially part of the Brock Collection?

Too true , Games World here in Adelaide still have some left as well , if people look hard enough they are still around at RRP and don't have to pay big bucks to the money makers .

Just recieved this model on the weekend.

A question for those that may know. (Richard?)

Did this car have a plate welded across the back where the number plate flap normally sits?

Cheers
