Moffat sets sights on V8 Supercars
Second-generation racer James Moffat has set his sights on contesting the 2006 HPDC Series. The 21-year-old son of motor racing legend Allan Moffat last week completed his third test day for Dick Johnson Racing, which has an option on his services for 2006.
"DJR has been tremendous, giving me the opportunity to do lots of miles in one of the team's old AU Falcons ahead of contesting the whole series in 2006," James Moffat said.
"Testing has gone well and I am much more confident with the car now than when I started, and I am now able to use the data to learn … you can actually see the improvement session to session.
"I have always had my sights set on the 'Development' Series next season and I am confident I can be competitive."
With continued backing from Trend Windows & Doors, Moffat is hopeful of finalizing his plans for '06 by the end of October.
"DJR has an option and I am hoping that's the way we go … they're certainly the team to beat in the series," Moffat confirmed.
"We've also spoken to several other leading Ford teams in case DJR does not do the Development series next year, so there are several options open to us.
"It's a very exciting time and one way or another, I am really looking forward to stepping into V8 Supercars."
Moffat is expected to complete several more test days for DJR before the end of the 2005 season.
Together with Trend's sponsorship, Moffat is also supported by Ford, Trueline and Biante.
