View Full Version : Have you missed a model you really wanted

As I wait for another popular Brock/Bathurst winner to go on advanced order it makes me wonder if there are others who feel the same as me when they miss a model. So that no one who collects a certain theme of models misses out why can't there be an option where a week or so before Biante needs to give the supplier the amount of models reqiured, e.g 5000 you can advance buy a model. Biante could take the credit from your credit card and you are garanteed a car. If, say for a car like the 84 VK Bathurst winner you get 4000 people do this then Biante could order the 4000 plus whatever other numbers they believe they need. This helps the collectors and Biante as we get the cars and they get a good idea on the amount of cars to produce. The only people I see who can loose are the ones who sell Biantes products for big profits on ebay.
Is this a good idea or am I just an idiot.

There is ample opportunity to get a model if you relly want it. I don't think we should expect Biante to have to do any more.
I don't pre-order off the site and haven't missed a model I want yet.

It is actually illegal for a company to take the money from your credit card prior to goods being sent...so from a legal perspective, Biante could not do that. That said, many still do this...

I couldn't agree more Wayno , if people want the models bad enough they can get themselves a reliable stockist and pre-order well in advance , Biante site is great for those who have no dealer close by or for those who want to take advantage of the great offer regarding Biante points system to fund that odd model or two for being loyal on-site customers .

I can see one problem with your idea, when I had my business I learnt that you can not charge people for goods that can not be supplied at the time of charging. This is actually illegal.

And having hundreds of orders sitting around for months is a logistical and security nightmare when you consider the number of different items that could be ordered, then there is the possibility of people changing credit cards or their old cards expire, changing addreses, or deciding they don't want that model anymore, so you spend days emailing/contacting them for their new details and waiting for them to get back to you.

In a perfect world, your ideas would be perfect, but in reality they could be a pain for businesses.

But at least you are thinking of a solution.

mate my stockist alot of the time orders the cars based on me telling him I wanted one....

definately find yourself a good shop and be loyal to them and you will get the advantages of great service and not missing cars you really want.

Yep. Plus there's the added bonus you can inspect the car before you but it to make sure it's ok.

I think Biante use the watchlist sometimes to guage a certain cars popularity and how many to make. Just make sure you have a wanted model on your watchlist and you should never miss out.

Should I therefore create 1000 fake identities on Biante's website and get them all to ask for an Anthony Tratt VY in 1:18?

:D

i have to agree if you are dedicated there should be no problem getting a particular model on release what i do is usually laybuy a model before it even hits the store get most or all of it payed off by the time it is released. also if u are truly wanting it make sure your on your comp at the time of release biante give ample notice..

I'd have to agree with the sentiment expressed by most of the replies so far. I have never missed out on a car knowingly.

I think the supply system for the Australian cars isn't so bad. I do not like the huge wait between the actual release and Australian release of AUTOart and Minichamps releases though. I'm still waiting on the 1991 Guia winner

yes, the '75 torana!

It's usually ignorance that a model has even been released, until I see one on a website and am told it's out of stock and unlucky mate (and the same goes for everywhere else). So I'm still looking for AutoArt's Porsche 917L Martini #21, but as for Biante stuff I'm only into V8 Toranas, Group A Commodores, and various Falcons up to XE, and so have everything on my watchlist.

I missed the advance order for the Brock/Sampson Torana because my bloody computer decided to do an update of all it's virus controls which took 1/2 hour. Are any more going to be offered for sale? If so when.

You should have cancelled the update for the moment. If you don't have a regular retailer try Gateway Models in Qld. They usually have heaps of stock.

I've tried to be loyal to my stockist but sometimes he just doesn't get enough stock, or in some cases with rally cars, any stock at all. I've also missed some from the web site where the Watch list is updated but I've actually gone home on time (or close to, for a change) and the item is sold out by the next morning. If I really wanted to pay the extra I could pick them up from an auction site but I have an aversion to paying more than issue price. As I have discovered missing out on a model isn't actually the end of the world, it just feels like it at the time.:D

Nothing is worth that, even if you're joking, which we'll all assume you are :) !!!

Calm down there son. I'm sure you'll get a hold of one. There are plenty of options around.

I thought I'd missed the 78 A9X due to a break down in communication with my old dealer. Out of desperation I tried a guy around the corner from him and had the money in my pocket. When he asked if I was prepared to pre-pay I jumped at the opportunity. It was in my cabinet about 3 days later. He is now my "new" dealer of choice. I still catch up with the other guy for a chat but I am not going to take any chances from now on. At least by putting a deposit down you are reasonably guaranteed of getting what you order.

I've built up a good relationship with my retailer, I give him up to date printouts of my Biante Watchlist and whenever one is impending he puts one of that particular model aside for me, I also have a 'wishlist' of other models that he may come across with him as well..

I do order and advance order from Biante when I can to boost the points up but working in hospitality it's difficult to be near a PC at work at a certain time to get an advanced order in..
