I have recieved this e-mail about 20 times today from both address I know, and address I don't. Interesting, although I doubt it will work.

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN AUSTRALIA
DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF PETROL FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT
THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR
STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET
LOSS OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE
OIL COMPANIES.

THEREFORE THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 22nd HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK
IT UP THEIR BEHIND " DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT
BUY A SINGLE DROP OF PETROL THAT DAY.
THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL
TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD
OUT.

WAITING ON THE GOVERNMENT TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES
IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL
IN PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?

REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF PETROL GOING
UP BUT AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES,
TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS
PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING,
BUILDING SUPPLIES MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE
DO!

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE
AFTER ONE DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO
EVERYONE YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE SEPTEMBER 22nd A DAY
THAT THE CITIZENS OF AUSTRALIA "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"

These sorts of things always amuse me...they have never worked before, but who knows...

The people circulating it should have read the article in The Age about a week ago...

Essentially, all OPEC nations are c##ping themselves because for the first time in history, they can not lower the price of a barrel by increasing production and over-supplying the system...

This is because there is a scare at the moment and everybody (the article didn't clarify who everybody is) is stockpiling...

Problem is, there is a HUGE over-supply atm, and when those people stockpiling stop buying, the whole system will collapse. The financial analyst who wrote the article predicted a bigger crash than the dotcom crash a few years ago...

So by all means, go ahead and don't buy petrol for that day, but if you artificially envoke a stockmarket crash like the dotcom one, don't blame me...

Cheers

Got this one from my Sister (she's a Public Servant:) ) but I don't think there's any point, really. You need to buy petrol sometime. If not one day, then the next.

what puzzels me is that australia has their own oil rigs and so on but yet export the aus oil to other countries and import oil from the us at a high price, wheres the sence in that. they (aus) keep saying buy local, keep it in aus blah blah but yet go out and buy it from another country anyway

But when it comes to people power we are a week lot and rather let oil companys goverments etc trample on us..

We buy very little, if any from the U.S.

Our local oil is what is known as a "light" oil, most other oils are "heavies"...

The "heavy" part is where we get our bitumen from, among other things...

So if you're happy to have dirt roads around the whole country(including the cities) then we probably can stop "swapping" our oil for some that has a few more uses:rolleyes:

As for the price, that was one of the smartest things that Malcolm Fraser did...We don't have any Australian oil companies...and that is the biggest problem. What incentive is there for an oil company to continue ANY business in a country if they make less money? The only incentive is price parity. If we didn't pay world prices to these companies to extract our own oil, then our oil would stay in the ground! This would have the flow-on effect of putting higher demand on the rest of the worlds oil production, and thus crank prices up higher...

Cheers

The biggest user is transport.

So on the 23rd we have to run twice as many trucks to restock the shelves etc...

...and just how do all those people who need to go to work to make ends meet get there?

I'll participate. I fill the tank once every couple of months anyway...
