Was driving over to Grandma's to pick up the kids in the Rio yesterday & got to reflecting on the standard equipment in the thing & in my past cars.
'67 HB Torana "S". It had carpet. It had a heater/demister, flow-through only - no fan. No Radio. No Temp. Gauge. Low-Back Bucket seats. Automatic was a BIG thing. Power Front Discs with the "70 Series" Pack was another BIG thing.
'89 Corolla/Nova "SL/X". Twin-Cam/Carby/16-Valve. 5-Speed Manual or 4-Speed Auto. Radio-Cassette. Remote Fuel & Hatch Releases. Disc/Drum Brakes. A/C was optioned in.
'05 Kia Rio "LS". They only come in the one spec. Twin-Cam/EFI/16-Valve. 5-Speed Manual/4-Speed Auto. A/C. Tacho. Power Steer. 6-Speaker CD/Tuner. Power Windows (all 4). Power Mirrors. Remote Boot & Fuel Releases. Immobiliser. Driver's Airbag. Disc/Drum Brakes. Colour-Coded Everything.
This is not peculiar to the Rio. We researched the market very carefully & ALL of the entry-level small cars are almost identically specced. All bar the Rio have TWO Airbags. The Hyundai's have a built-in Alarm in addition to the Immobiliser. You cannot buy a small car without A/C standard. I dunno, it leaves me a bit bemused. Especially when I think back to my Suzuki LJ80 4WD. It had a heater, but you tirned it on via a tap in the engine bay!:D
