Just for curiosity, what would stop the average motor sport fan going to the mountain for the 1000Km?

The organisers putting too many restrictions on what you can and can't take up for camping for the week up top of the mountain would do it for me...

Oh, and too many 'corporate' facilities taking over the prime viewing spots around the track..

I heard that at skyline they have allocated a large area for corporate ( on left hand side of tower).

I will be going there next week to check it out.

Inter, could you take some pictures or give us an update of what it is like for viewing areas across the top of the mountain, only if you get the chance. I'm trying to get up there for the friday of the race weekend and would like to spend the day taking photo's at the top.

Regards
Damian

Not sure if you guys are aware that this year for the second year there will be no power at the camp sites again.
There has been power until last year and for some reason they removed the power boxes?

Also all the people that fence off their little pieces of real estate on wed race week, this will not be allowed any more ( dont know how they will enforce this?).
I can see some fights happening this year.
I was going to bring my 9 year old boy up this year for the whole week, but now i dont know?
( he has been there before on race day but never camped there )

The banning on roping of viewing areas will be an interesting one, we carry up pickets and fencing to fence off our campsites as where we are we get a lot of people cutting through so we make sure they have to walk around our sites and not through.

If we have these materials in the trailer when we get up there and we are asked to leave them at the gate we won't be happy.

I really can't see them enforcing the ban to be honest, there's a lot of groups up there who do it and that would mean a lot more security needed to enforce the ban so I think it probably will still happen.

Just on the subject of campsites I'm a little suprised that the top of the mountain still has a lot of sites available at this stage, usually by May McPhillamy is sold out..

Extra security will surely increase the cost of attending the event?

Bathurst isn't the same as it was when I went up in the mid-80's to mid-90's. So I don't think I'll go back. It seems to be less and less about being at the race, and more and more about getting totally legless and having a Boy's Own weekend; that sort of thing just doesn't do it for me. I'd rather watch the race from my lounge than have a bunch of drunks making idiots of themselves ten feet from me. My $0.02 anyway.

I would imagine the prices are locked in for this year as tickets and campsites have been on sale for a few weeks now but certainly the prices for next year may go up because of the extra costs.

I've actually found things to be better on top of the mountain over the last few years. There are still idiots up there, but they're a lot further away than they used to be.

Have to agree there, it's been gradually getting quietened down over the past five years. The amount of women and kids on the mountain has increased immensely in the past two or so years!

I'd say the mid '90's were far more out of control!

Definitely agree, it's been a lot quieter than it was, even with being camped right near the doughy pit

I don't think that would really cut it with them, but if you brought some beer with you you may be viewed more favourably :D LOL :D
