I was reading on the v8supercar website (http://www.v8supercar.com.au/news/latestnews/news display.asp?Ind=M&gid=19144) that Supercheap is offering an extra $10k for the pole sitter of the 1000 if they can beat Murph's lap record.

Now considering they will be running a different diff ratio this year (apparently a fraction higher to stop the cars bouncing off the rev limiter going down Conrod), will it be possible ???

cheers. :)

They will get a higher speed down conrod (300??), but will be a tad slower going up the hill, so i personally think the lap record will be safe.

Would it be possible for Jason Bright to win

Murph's time was set with a lower diff ratio, 18 degree motor with light weight internals, lighter weight car etc etc etc

Too many differences in the direction of slowing the car down, and not enough time to recover these changes...

So not this year...

Cheers

Can't see it happening myself, but if it does I hope it's Murph who breaks it again !!

Will be interesting as with higher diff it will require one less gear change than Murph's record lap on Mountain Straight, the only porblem is the engine will be lower in the rev range at the apex of each corner. If the engine builders take this into account and can produce a slightly torquery motor then i dont see why not.

Last year and in 03 the cars were on the rev limiter for 400mtrs before braking off Conrod into the Chase, with the higher Diff this should not be happening but in theory 300 km/h should be seen for the frist time since i think 97.

It will all come down to grip and drive off the important corners

Ie Forest's Elbow to Chase, Turn 1 to Griffins bend. The speed across the top shouldnt be effected and in previous years this is where the greatest increase has been seen from tyre technology and aero advance's.

I reckon a 2.06.55 is possible under the right conditions.

Will have to wait and see

I hope it never gets beaten.

Being in the Kmart pit bunker when it happened was the greatest moment
I have ever experienced in Motorsport, even better than the win!!!

It was truly umbelievable moment.

Another factor to take into account will be the good old prevailing Weather Conditions, Wind, Temp, Track temp etc...

I could agree more Rob (even though I was watching it on the telly), I just wished they included the whole lap in the DVD

For me, I think Murphs lap will stand for yet another year :D

cheers.

We get all these silly DVD's about crashes, etc. I would LOVE to see a DVD with the greatest ever bathurst shoot out laps.
I'd certainly buy one. There are so many to chose from.

2/3rds of the session is on V8 Supercars Greatest hits 2003. I have it and its awesome to watch. The only thing thats bad its missing the first three cars of the top 9 shootout (Larry Perkins made it 9) which included the Jim Richards benchmark at the start.

After qualifying today, I am starting to think that perhaps at least CL could be a real good chance, provided it's cool & doesn't rain.

His 2m07.1322s was pretty awesome & to say it appeared as if his lap time may have been affected by slower traffic from the chase to the finish line.

That said, it will be interesting to see tomorrow if this afternoons sprinkle has had any affect on grip levels.

cheers. :)

Steve richards acclaimed that he brokek the 300kmh mark on thursdays practice

I think now it is going to go, depending on the conditions of the weather. If its clear, its a strong chance. Many teams who are in the shootout have green sets (notice plural) of tyres left. It really doesn't mean much if it is beaten, it won't be shattered like what Murph did to it in 2003.

With the amount of rain falling during the HPDC race, I think we could safely say that Murph's super lap record will stand for another year.

What has got my attention is the amount of extra speed the cars have with this new diff ratio - WOW !!!

cheers. :)

Talking about 300kph, it appears that TPR have issued a press release see here (http://www.v8supercar.com.au/news/latestnews/news display.asp?Ind=M&gid=20344)

Here is the most interesting part of that press release

In the 9:40am practice session Paul proved he’s got the speed to better last year’s effort, clocking a scorching 302kmh on the straight. Paul had the second fastest lap of the co-driver practice session with a best lap of 2:08.4897. Meanwhile Coleman left yesterday’s power steering issue long behind him, lengthening the stride of the car to deliver shorter lap times as expected. Coleman kept the #11 car out of trouble and notched a fastest lap of 2:14.1957.

In the main driver practice session Steve came up with the goods, recording the second fastest lap of that session with a time of 2:07.7273. With both Paul and Steve passing 300km/h, Castrol Team Perkins Racing will be setting the pace on Sunday......

cheers. :)

Tanders comments that he wasn't out to try and get Pole in the shootout is yet another example of a clown in a racing suit. Unlike the true champions he has trouble admitting that he DOES make mistakes. It was interesting to hear from guys like Jim Richards, Seton and Murphy about why they struggled. Then out of the blue comes the HSV driver in his clown suit. "I wasn't trying to get Pole Rusty" was his latest revelation.
Somebody needs to tell this guy that if he isn't interested in going for a top grid spot he could have left the car in the garage and started from 10th. At least that would have saved him the embarresment of yet again revealing that he just cant admit that he too makes mistakes on the track. At least this time he couldn't blame it on a slower car like he did earlier in the year at Clipsal.

Personally I would have prefered Rick kelly do the shootout lap instead of Tander but Oh well that's the perils of being ill on the day I guess . :(

5th on the grid is no discrace though , besides the race is 161 laps and you can be on pole and still DNF or fall to the wayside if lucks not going your way ... ;)
