I just saw this on the home page. Does anyone buy these sorts of "obscure" models?

For the Aussies, Previa is what the kiwi's call a Tarago...;)
These people movers are quite popular in Australia...

Whilst models like this don't appeal to me, people must buy them. Otherwise they wouldn't be produced!

One things for sure, its an extremely ugly vehicle.

Taste is a relative thing. That's what makes the motoring world so diverse and interesting.
Whilst I might not like something, I'm not going to can it as other people obviously do.

Well I'd only buy it if it was the only car in the world.

Isn't that the purpose of a forum?

The Tarago in this country was for many, many years the top-selling people-mover. It was also the FIRST purpose-designed people-mover. Even now, starting at $52 000-00 plus ORC they run second in the market. No people-mover is pretty compared to conventional cars. What they are is practical - eminently so.

Only thing that keeps Ford going is the F Series, they more they make the less fuel for everyone else !

Yep, Nate. Great cars. Practical, roomy, good load-carriers & tow-boats. BUT they are relatively thirsty & for more than 3 kids (why most people buy Wagons) not practical past a certain age as the 3rd row seats (in common with many 4WDs) are only "Child-Rated" in size & weight. From memory 78 cm seated height & 35 kg weight. However, that's mis-leading as our 6 yo was out of leg room & nearly out of head room too in our EF Wagon & he was nowhere near those figures. If you're not needing a Tow-Boat, then People-Movers can be a great way to travel.:)

I like to get a model of my various cars, if possible. These days HB Toranas, Mk II Cortinas, Clubman Minis, Suzuki Sierras & even EF Falcons could be considered "obscure", but I've got all but the Clubman so far. Then there's REALLY obscure cars like Dad's Austin A60, Auntie Jean's Ford Anglia, my mate's Triumph Herald, another mate's VF Valiant or even my old Mini Moke. Got models of them all.:)

You missed the point completely...
Ford do not intend to continue making Wagons! So WHEN they stop (not if) what would your preference be?
Interesting that you think a company that holds a larger market share is at greater risk of going flop:rolleyes:

I didn't buy a Previa, but I did buy a 1/43 model of the Corolla that is the same year as my future SS UTE trade-in.

Well if you had say 4 kids, you'd need a larger car, then every car you'll look for would be thirsty.

Hmm, seems to me that a majority of people drive falcons, the last time I saw an F was about a year ago.

Oh FORD's are only made in Australia arent they ! :D
The Tarago/Previa is a great vechile, there is a new one coming out in a few months havent seen it yet but have heard its a step ahead again over the current one. Being a Toyota they are reliable carry 8 people with luggage quite easily and great on fuel.
Only thing they really cant do is tow a boat at the same time, but hey you cant have everything.:p

You'd be surprised at the contacts that many people on this forum have...confirmation is only a necessary formality;)...

I only made a comment about how the car looks, I think Toyota's range of cars are nice, apart from the Previa.

I think you should scroll back through this thread...you have said a lot more than just comment about how the car looks!
It's called a discussion...you can always choose to not reply...
Back on topic, although not the prettiest looking vehicle, it is a damn sight better looking than the current Magna and the AU Falcon...
But I don't think that "looks" are of major concern in this market segment' I think versatility, passenger comfort, passenger numbers, fuel economy and cost are far higher priorities...

That new Honda, in the ad where those two people are kissing.
Honda seems to think that looks are a big factor in their vehickes.

I havn't seen the advert you refer to. I assume its for the Odyssey (http://www.honda.com.au/odyssey/odyssey/image+gal lery/exterior.htm)...which may be slightly better looking, but has not shifted from the 1980's Tarago look:rolleyes:

Not necessarily. Our EF Wagon (8 seater, 4.0 l Auto) averaged about 20 mpg around town. It's replacement, the Carnival (7 seat, 2.5 l Manual) is so far averaging about 25 mpg around town. On the highway, they both do 28-30 mpg, loaded up.
One of the alternatives we looked at, the Suzuki XL-7 4WD, 7 seat, 2.5 l Manual but lighter & smaller than our Carnival would've been even better. Time (and technology) march on.:)

I can understand people buying models of vehicles they own (or used to own), and I would snap up an XE panel van in an instant, but surely there can't be THAT many people buying model Previas (or New Beetles, or Mazda RX-8s or Toyota LandCruisers etc)? But looking through current listings there are a lot of these "ordinary" vehicles, and not nearly enough of cars that I want! And of course it's what I want that ought to be made......I'll admit I don't know the figures (or even have a vague idea), but I would have thought that the rabid diecast collectors are generally hankering for exciting competition cars rather than some showroom sedan. Looking at what 1:43s sell like hot cakes should give an idea of what 1:18 would go well, crazy eBay prices on discontinued (and not such high quality) models should give an idea of what to remanufacture, and looking at what models people will pay $300+ for when made by Exoto should indicate what those who can't afford Exoto would pay $130 for if made by, say, AutoArt. And I doubt in any of those categories a Previa would figure highly. But it may well be that, like Ferrari having to sell road cars to fund racing, diecast manufacturers make all their money on people carriers to carry their losses on race cars. But I doubt it.....

Do you mean ordinary cars like sendans like, Biante Premiums, AU, Ba XR8's and GT's (XY's?) XY GT's are awesome and of course I'll never get to own one so I just take the model. It saves me fuel:D

Seeing as this is 1/43........if you look at what Trax make & have always made, "ordinary" road cars - sedans, wagons & commercials - are in the vast majority. That's their bread & butter. The only one that's really bombed on them was the original P-76, fine model that it was & at least the Targa Florio sold out in no time flat.

Yep - Crazy!!!
How did this thread get from Toyota Previa's to bagging Ford S/Wgns??
Well - Anyway I OWN A MODEL OF A TOYOTA PREVIA !!!
So There !!!
In fact I have over 50 Toyota Models. It's one of my Main Themes, and includes hideous things like Toyota Crowns, Supra 2800GT's, and even several different Corolla's.
Admittedly, even coming from a diehard Toyota nut:D , the Previa isn't the prettiest Toyota I have, but because I collect Toyota's, I bought one (from Biante too!!).
So I guess that's why they manufacture them.
AND - Let me tell you!!!! I am absolutely dying for a model of a Toyota Hilux Ute to be released:rolleyes:
Bring it on....

Hold on Shayne. I wasn't bagging Falcons. I love them. Wifey had to work VERY hard to get me out of ours (our second "E" series wagon & our FOURTH Falcon in a row!) and into the People-mover. BUT, all cars have strengths & weaknesses, OK?

I don't think anybody was bagging them, just making the point that it's horses for courses...
Funnily enough, I thought Mark was talking about full size Previa's...i.e. when he said the Home Page, I thought he meant Toyota's... and who buys these obscure models...i.e. not sedans...
NOT who buys models OF the Previa!!!
I'm confused:confused: I think I might go and have a lie down...
