Just an observation I've made. Biante seem to favour certain style of car and make them in a certain scale. I've also come to the conclusion that Biante favour the 1:18 scale in general.

I wonder if anyone has seen this as well?

Im not including the current Minicars here:

Holden V8 Supercars - 1:18
Ford XY 1:18 & 1:43
Ford Racing Teams 1:18
HSV vehicles 1:18
Early Holdens 1:43
Chargers 1:43

You could say the same thing about Trax. They prefer to make the 1:43 scale vehicle.

Classic Carlectables seem to switch back and forth.

Dinkum, as well do the same.

Whats the point? Well, if your collecting Holdens V8 Supercars as an exmaple you have no choice but to have 1:18 (with Biante) which limits the amount of space in your house. 1:43 are much easier to have.

The same applies the road HSV's.

Of course 1:18 scale are much more detailed and take price of place in any collection, but most of us havent got rooms and rooms to place them in.

Can someone shed some light in regards to this. Is this practise adpoted purely because of financial reasons??

more people tend to buy 1:18s more often than 1:43s and 1:64s
so that is probably one of the main reasons they produce more 1:18s.
i prefer to buy 1:18 scales because they have so much more detail put into them.

cheers:D

I buy what I like, not worried about the scale, or who makes it. If you want real detail that you can see then you'll get that in the 1:18's.

Personally I have all the 1:64's in V8 Supercars, a heap of 1:43's and a great selection of 1:18s

I'm a 1/18 man through and through. I feel that looking in the one scale tends to give you a better sense of scale for different types of race cars.
There are so many more models I would love that are in the 'wrong' scale for me and I usually grit my teeth and don't buy them. A man has to draw a line in the sand somewhere.
I do have some exceptions which I just could not resist. Bud King 1/16 Top Fuel car being the latest example of my weakness!

well i want to start adding some nascars into my collection, but they are mostly 1/24

and the same for moto gp bikes, they make them in 1/18 but im not sure of the detail that would be in a 1/18 bike!

I get the bikes as well, but 1/12 is ok for them in Wayno's rules of collecting!
With the NASCAR stuff there are 1/18 cars out there, but you are very limited for choice (makes searching for them fun though!). And drag racing cars in 1/18 just do not exist. :(

We make as many 43rd race cars as 18th..Ford and Holden. Same with HSV models.

I am primarily a 1/18 scale collector , I have been so for many years now . I like this scale for the realistic lifelike detail with all the moving and opening parts etc.
Although of the last six months money has been an issue so I have been buying 1/43 and the 1/64 minicars inbetween 1/18 purchases or when I can't afford the 1/18 scale .

I must say that detail has been advancing heaps in the smaller scales which to me is of primary importance , as this is why I had previously showed no interest in these scales because prior to the improvement of these scale models I considered these to be very much toy like compared to the larger scale .

I have to agree with a lot of people that for a serious collector finding room for a growing 1/18 collection can be a big problem , also since the releases have increased substancially financing such a collection can also be difficult .
Basicly it comes down to what scale satisfies you to what you can afford and how much space you have available .
it's Very much an individual thing as to what scale is better , it's more about which is suitable to you and what you will be happy with .

Cheers

Jim .

For cost & space: 1/43 only. Partly also because I discovered Trax before Biante/CC/Vanguards etc so I started with 1/43. The major test of will came at a clearance sale when I saw my first 1/18 - the Biante March 17 Green LJ XU-1 - a car I've been in love with since 4th grade. With a wife, 3 kids & a mortgage all to support I just couldn't justify the money, so I've always stuck to 1/43. Sometimes, I look up at my collection & shudder at how much moneys worth is up there instead of other more important places but, as my wife says, it's my 1 indulgence for myself, so I carry on collecting. :D

I would say as far as the V8's go it's 1/64 by a mile, then 1/18 and then if they think about it - eventually 1/43 (if were lucky)
