Has anyone got their models signed and the signature hasn't turned out very well? Recently l got a couple of my models signed by Skaife, 2 were 1:18's and 2 were 1:43's. The 1:18's turned out ok but the 1:43 didn't.
l have never before taken the 1:43's out of their box. Has anyone else had this problem. Maybe someone knows of this and knows what brand of texta is best.
Cheers,
Scott

I personally think it is sacrilege to deface a model with a signature, but thats my own personal opinion, but im sure the best "texta" would be a permanent marker type, and thats what there called from my recollection.

I agree with you Paul. By all means get the certificate signed but I would never have someone write on the model itself.

I agree with the others.
sarobinson,
A question, Why would you get the accual model signed?
To me it ruins it, as it is no longer a replica of the real thing (as it doesn't have sig on it).
Only thing I would have signed is the certificate, or the box. So far only got a couple of sigs. Hope one day I'll have them all done.

i got lowndes and skaife to sign the roof of my 2000 bathurst car and it looks real good, i'm not selling it ,so therefore defaced or not , doesn't matter.
A fine point marker is the best, and get the drivers to use yours.:)

I don't have any of my models signed.
I have seen a few and would have to say that the best results are on 1:18 models done with a reasonable fine permanent marker.
I think 1:43 are too small too get a good signature on.
At the end of the day some like it and some don't.

Sorry guys but I have to disagree with most of you. I've had all my major models signed by the respective drivers as well as the certs. That's my personal choice. The 1:64's I have the case signed. I only ever get the roof signed (1:18 and 1:43) and always use a fine Artline marker as the ink is extremely black or in the case of red cars, I use gold. I also try and get photos of the guys signing them also.
Each to their own opinion.
I'm not too keen on getting the models signed but I am making the trip to Indy Cars in 3 weeks to see my first V8 Supercar race and wouldn't mind getting some of my certificates signed.
Are there any tips on how to get them signed? Is the driver signing session the only opportunity or can you just bowl up to the drivers if they're wandering around?
Hanging around the pits does help if you have the patience. Most drivers are happy to scribble your certificates (or whatever else you want signed). Just be nice and don't push it ;)
Last Barbagallo round I got about 10 sigs and I wasn't even trying.

If you can get to the track on the friday or saturday you'll have an easier time getting signatures. Generally on sundays (race day) the drivers are too busy to sign stuff. Also, a few of the drivers do signing sessions at their merchandise vans so try there, particularly Team Brock as both Peter and Craig usually appear at some time throughout the day.

I'm not a collector of signatures, but when presented with the opportunity to have dinner with Jarno Trulli (Renault F1 driver for those who know nothing beyond V8 Supercars  ) before this year's GP, I just HAD to take along all my 1:43 Minardi/Prost/Jordan Trulli's for a signature. I got the top of all the cases signed with permanent marker as, like many of you, I prefer to keep the model itself as a replica of the real thing.

On driver signing sessions, you should check local papers, as drivers get out to car dealerships, sponsor outlets etc. I got Tander's and Barg's signatures on the backing of my Bathurst winner at a Repco store in Campbelltown when they came out for Oran Park, and some F#*d drivers signatures at the Ford dealership there that weekend also.
On getting cars signed, the actual cars don't have a huge signatures on the roof, so mine don't either. It ruins them I think.
I saw a guy at Bathurst getting his Moffat GTHOs signed on their roofs, to me, that would make it harder to sell. I wouldn't buy it, it already has the certs signed, why get another one.

I would rather buy a cricket bat with bradmans autograph on it than one without!!
This is personal choice and lets face it ,autographs dont make something more valuable, they are a dime a dozen when it comes to supercar drivers.
Cheers.
I'm getting most my stuff signed in the "barbaque with the stars" 5-7pm Wednesday next week at Bathurst.
On Saturday I'II take whatever didn't get signed and my Jack Brabham model/video and book.
With my Classics I have all of them autographed.
A good Idea is if the autograph is on the box or plastic above it get some clear plastic tape, put it over the autograph and your autograph is preserved.
I try most the time to get the roofs sgned on my 1/43's,roof or sertificate with 1/18's and background card for Biante minicars and box for CC's 1/64/

I have 3 1:43s signed on the bonnet (signed @bathurst last year) but other than these 3 cars I only get the certificates signed if not already. It doesn't look too bad signed on the car but even with future 1:43s I will not get the car signed...
Like most if the 1:18s are signed I think it ruins the look of them. I have seen people go crazy at signings with their 1:18 models and once signed on the roof I look at the car and it makes it look more like a toy than a collectible. But each to their own.

I have a couple of the Signature Series models from Classic and they have the base that the car mounted on signed, which looks quite good. I too agree that the car is far too precious to have an autograph on it and i believe that it devalues the model.
Maybe biante could produce their own signature collection with the minicars to make them more appearling to collectors.
Just a thought,
Cheers.

Make them more appealing?
Have you seen how fast the minicars sell out when they are released on the site?
I like them not being signed. It makes it fun trying to hunt the drivers down so that they can sign them and the price doesn't go up like it would if they signed them before they were released.

I have alot of my cars signed on the roof and I don't think it defaces them. To me it gives them their own personal touch. I find the fine point artline pen to be the best. I have also got the 1:64 signed by all the drivers in front of the cars on the black base. It is very rewarding metting the drivers and getting their sig. I can't wait each time to meet these guys that bring the trill of v8 motorsport that we all enjoy so much.
Bring on BATHURST!

The only car I ever got signed was my first ever 1/18 scale. It was the 2001 CC Rat Falcon. There is no way in the world I ever get my Biantes done.
On another note, I remember several months ago wandering around Parklea Markets (Sydney) This guy had quite a few models for sale. Wooo and behold was the mighty Dicky Johnson XC for sale. I almost feel over when I saw the price of 450 bucks. I laughed and asked why so expensive and he explained it was signed on the roof by the man himself. He also explained how hard it was to gain Dick's signature.
Maybe at Eastern Creek next year I should take all my DJR cars down and get Dick to sign them. I wonder what the Sierra would go for.
