Australian Muscle Car No23
Hi all, anyone know when issue 23 is due, with the New Years break doe's it mean that it will be a bit late.
I realy wish it came out monthly, it has to be the best mag i've read.

I got a subscription for Christmas second year in a row, should be out around the 11th Jan, dunno if that is the newsstand date or tghe subscribers. This is one of the rare mags that gets to subscribers typically a week before the news stands.:D Ditto for the monthly, it rox....

Cant wait for the new one to come out but am glad its only every 2nd month. If it was every month i dont think it would have the detail and great articles that it currently has, also Mark Oastler would run out of cars to write about.
Bring on the middle of Jan 06.

Does anyone in NZ know if we still get this magazine here? I haven't been able to find one in the bookstores since about September. Last one I have is number 20.

its one of those mags you really look forward to.
even though i cant wait for each issue, its a good thing its bi-monthy or whenever. i buy it for the racing muscle cars and one day they will run out of cars to feature and then it might become another street machine like muscle car mag.

Issue 1 was worryingly like that in parts, with custom classics with modern big alloys etc, but they settled down to how they are now. I think even once they've covered the famous race cars they can redo some of them in different ways. They did a "readers' cars" thing and featued a mint A9X, even though they'd already covered the A9X in a previous issue, so there is scope for redoing cars. I'd be happy to see articles on someone's mint E49 or Phase III, or car of a different colour from one previously featured. They're going to have to do something, as classic muscle cars are limited in number!

Sometimes some of the coverage is disappointing, I would love to see them look at more cars like the Capri, Moffat's RX7 and the Peter Willo Celicas and Supra, but for all my gripes there is nothing else like it, some of the in depth articles, like the recent XA Coupe RPO 83 article are superb. Whatever dud articles may appear I always look forward to it in the newsagent.

I'm hoping they expand their definition of "Australian muscle car" and include stuff like the Porsche 934 that won the 1981 ASCC (and there's a road-going one in NSW they could do), and maybe the Brock 956 that we're getting from Biante. But I can't think of any other motor mag that I've enjoyed something from every issue, so they're doing OK so far!

Is that the Alan Jones version Nick? Was it a 935? I am not very good on my Porsche numbers so I can't remember. I do remember seeing AJ's car at Oran Park in 1982 and it was a real weapon. Colin Bond drove a sister car I think (but I may be wrong) it was some sort of 944 Turbo that may have raced at Le Mans in 1982. They were entered by Porsche Cars Australia. They would be great models too and great for a story in AMC.

AJ's was a 935. Now owned by Rusty French and back in it's original warpaint I think.

That 934 was a pretty quick sportie kinda killed off the prod sports car class here though. Latham and Moffat/Walker in Hamiltons variant didnt have much competion most of the time.

The Colin Bond car was one of the gorgeous homologation special Porsche 924 Carrera GTs (aka 937) - there were the GT, GTS, GTR and GTP in ascending order of power. Bond shared a GTR at the 1981 Le Mans with Peter Brock and Jim Richards, but it didn't qualify. The 944 that came later was just a VW/Audi road car with a Porsche badge, whose styling was inspired by the bulging wheelarches of the 924 Carreras. The 934 was a wide-arch Group 4 version of the 911 Turbo (aka 930) but with a flat cooling fan and heavily modified engine plus cage and other race parts, and the 935 was an evolution of that for Group 5, gaining a flat nose and wilder body mods. Exoto have already made the 934 and 935, but it would be interesting if Biante commissioned them to make significant Australian versions in the same way Minichamps are making the Brock 956.

I'm pretty sure that Exoto are distributed by Classic Carlectables in Australia...

It was at the historics at QR last year (August?) along with one painted in John Sands colours.
I have some pix here but they're too big to upload......
Both extremely awesome looking cars, and between them they have an impressive racing pedigree!

Well I've written to AMC suggesting Porsches as a standby when they run out of Holdens and Fords to cover! I also remembered Bob Jane's 911 Carrera RSR, an evolution of the legendary Carrera RS, which had wider arches and an extra 100cc, giving another 100 bhp! That RSR is still around (in Victoria), and painted a beautiful Gulf blue.
If CCs distribute Exoto then maybe they could get some Aussie Porsches done! I don't care who does them, I just want some....

should be out around the 11th Jan
Spot on, picked mine up from the newsagent this afternoon.
Featured cover story car is the '76 Morris / Fitzpatrick L34 Bathurst Winner. Also pretty extensive pictorial coverage and write-up of the Muscle Car Masters meeting at Eastern Creek, as well as articles on the Cortina GT 500, Murray Carter and the 72/73 Improved Production meetings in New Zealand.
As usual a great looking mag, and now the long wait until the next issue begins...:)

It's a great article on a good looking Bathurst winner - I hadn't realised there was any doubt about the win though!

Thats why I've always wondered how this model release never realy took off. Nice car, gripping end to the race with the axle problem and Holdens reluctance to dispute the placings as it could be seen as stepping on the "little guy".

according to AMC and bob morris the car did't have an axle problem.
There was a leaking seal in the front of the gearbox leaking onto the clutch which made the clutch slip.

Received it in the mail today. Cover story is Bob Morris's '76 win at Bathurst in the L34 with the usual amount of detail.. Bob Jane has an ad in for his own Muscle Car Nationals at Calder at Easter. Joe Kenwright does one of his as usual informative articles on the GT500 Cortina. There's coverage of the Muscle Car Masters from Eastern Creek with some nice shots and a good story about the 1972 visit to NZ by Moff, Big Pete and Frank Gardner in their Mustang, Super Falcon and Camaros respectively for a 2 round series. Good Stuff. Whoops - also a great article on Murray Carter and the follow-up story of the Ron Dickson Camaros. (Modesty forbids me mentioning an edited version of a letter of mine also getting in). Definitely a good issue.

Finally got a copy !! Outstanding reading as usual. All we need to do now, with 23 issues having hit the streets, is revisit the question of Binders as was last mentioned about Issue 3 or 4.

Could not agree more,if Playboy can produce Magazine Binders then why haven't AMC done the same. Both magazines are world class.
Just finished having a good read of the Bob Morris & Murray Carter stories, what great articles!!
I'm sure this has been asked before, but will throw another line in the drink.
Can or will we see the XD & XE cars of Murrays' done in the near future??
I can't wait to get them into my collection, along with the Army Reserve XD.
I'm sure those moulds are getting dusty & need some use!

I think I have indicated a while ago now, that It would be most enchanting to see about a half doz. of Murrays mounts. The white XA,white XB, dark blue XB, dark blue XC & the blue/black XD....Chuck in the "Valentine" RX7 for the Mazda section so the Moffat car is not lonely!!
