Well Im no longer collecting diecast. Just too expensive to keep up an maintain - mind you Ive stuck to ONE theme. I just cant justify the costs anymore. Time to buy a house, nicer car. Unfortunately I cant have everything. I dont earn much.
Thank you to all who conversed with me over the months. I sincerely hope others dont stop collecting due to financial constraints.
Cheers and Happy New Year to all.

know exactly how you feel...i'm cutting back too...got enough xa,xb,xc,xy,torana etc....i'm at the stage where it doesn't bother me when i'm missing out on a model..there are very few models i will still collect like cmc and some exoto, minichamps .....otherwise i changed to papermodels :D
yep...some might laugh now but the variety and detail is quite amazing and most of them are free downloads...all you need is a couple of cheap tools and paper....and patience.
cheers marty

I think we all have. I know a new house has severely curtailed my purchasing.
Still find the money for my world champs and Brock cars, but the rest have to fit in with the household budget now. :(

I know how ya feel buddy, I've just done a deal with wifey to get a new SLR which now mean it's only DJR collection & the odd F1 model car for some time to come, but hey, it's still good :D  !!!

Told wifey about the 30D price and she suggested after I play with yours if I like it I go and get one.
Very cool, but the models will then get cut back even further. :(

I cut back six months ago after taking a redundancy package, for me I now only collect Bathurst winners in 18 and 64, all the others I have will soon be sold on ebay or elsewhere in a fire sale trouble is if everyone is cutting back then my ebay items will not sell.

I stopped properly collecting about 1 year ago after NEARLY (2 cars short) of having every 1/18,1/43 & 1/64 XW and XY GT ever made.
I then sold the whole lot and only kept a select few of my VERY FAVOURITES and then make sure the wife gets me a diecast car/boat for birthday and xmas since.
It was all worth it as today I purchased the car I have always wanted.
No its not an XY GT. Its a 2004 BA XR6 Turbo. More of that on a new thread.
I think alot of people are now concetrating on a theme, be it F1, ATCC Winners, Bathurst, Holden or Ford.
For the first few years after Biante started it was pretty easy (for me atleast) to keep up with all the new releases but then things went crazy and I had to stop in the end. When all the cupboard and waredrobes are full of 1:12/18/43/64 cars the wife sure cracks the sh1ts.
Cheers

Im with you too, have really cut back from 3-4 1/18 per month to maybe 1 1/18 every few months, and being very selective about which ones.
Have been clearing out a lot of my 1/18 lately, mainly going to focus on 1/43 Bathurst and selected championship cars, selected Rossi and Bayliss bikes.
Couldnt justify having that many models in boxes, or the amount of cash that was being spent on the hobby and also the rate which they were being released. Too many themes were being collected. 1/43 now gives me as much satisfaction at 1/4 the price. Also have other priorities that I feel are more important.
The Biante Legends will see lots of the 1/18 remade into the smaller scale, so I can re-buy the ones I sold, still have a great collction and be able to display them all in one cabinet.
Minichamps remakes of hard to get models in the Rossi bikes has put a dampner on those as their collectability has gone out the window.
Lots of factors really, 1/43 is great anyway. No regrets.

I know the Government keeps telling us how well they are doing and its all great (ie economy etc.) but my money just doesn’t seem to go as far as it did a couple of years back, not earning any less, in fact earning a little more but the day to day expenses (food, bills) seem to have outpaced my earnings, to the point now that I am starting to think about cutting back a little.. :(

I'm with you there, brother! I have noticed that over the last 20+ years of my working life, that my disposable income has shrunk dramatically, even though the wife and I are both working. It doesn't take much with fuel costs and the greed of the supermarkets, constantly increasing gov't fees and charges to leave very little for the hobbies. I'll keep collecting but I have to become more and more sellective as to what I buy. As for those that I've wanted and missed out on, ces't la vie!

Actually my hobbyshop help me stop buying each and every Biante in all 3 scales.
A couple of years ago i was buying models from Diannes Models here in Brisbane. I was buying everything from Biante with the Biante name on it, and a couple of times Diannes had not order some of the models and so i would miss out. Sitting down and thinking about it , it was the start of the end for me to buying all Biante models.
I still buy the occasional Biante model but I now only buy the ones that I like. Also I buy the occassional iXO , CC and Minichamps model and of course I have been caught by the Pixar bug, ( don't ask me to explain the Pixar thing ).
Now I only have to unload some 600 odd 1:18th, 1:43th and 1:64th scale models, only keep the ones I like , the XY 's and some of the earlier Fords are my favourite and they will be kept but the rest are going , just have to work out the best and easiest way to sell them .

I've only ever bought cars that I like. I was fortunate enough to start when Biante did so have been able to pick and choose exactly what I wanted the whole time. Got about 160 in 1/18 and will continue to collect for as long as I'm able to pay cash for new releases that I just have to have!
