Not sure if this has been mentioned around here, but to alert everyone if it hasn't, ABC2 (available on Foxtel Digital or if you have a Digital set-top box) is featuring old motor racing from the ABC archives this week on their program 'Late Night Legends'.
Here is the link to what is on:
http://abc.net.au/sport/legends/week7.htm
In a nutshell;
Monday - 1968 Warwick Farm Tasman Cup race - 10:45pm
Tuesday - 1970 Warwick Farm Touring Cars - 10:45pm
Wednesday - 1978 Formula 5000 race from AIR - 10:45pm
Thursday - 1978 AGP from Sandown - 10:45pm
Should be some great viewing!

I hope someone tapes these. I haven't joined the digital world yet as I'm waiting until we finish building.
Would love to see them though!
Especially the 78 AGP as I was at that race.

That's a good enough reason to finally invest in a set-top box.
I watched the race last night. We got full coverage of two races; 1968 Tasman Cup race at Warwick Farm and the 1972 Tasman Cup race at Adelaide International Raceway featuring F5000's. It was fantastic to watch. I am looking forward to the touring cars tonite.

I enjoyed listening to Norman Bray on touring cars.:)
One thing I noticed from the 3 races shown was the better perception of speed with the older technology. Or maybe it had more to do with the surroundings.. I think it was because they had less cameras and spent more time tracking the car with one camera?? who knows, good viewing, but.
BTW, I recorded it on DVD so if anyone missed it, send me a PM with your details and I can send you a copy. The disc has the 3 races and the Falcon GT doco on it as I wanted to fill the disc up a bit..

Must admit that tonight and tomorrow nights races sound very nice. F-5000 is the ultimate.

Wasn't Ian 'Pete' Geoghan drive sensational:cool:
For those without a set top box (me included) - a little birdie tells me that DVDs will be for sale with all that old ABC motor racing on them. Can't wait.

Bob Holdens crash in the Escort looked quite bad. It was interesting to see that even in 1970 he was considered a verteran. 35 years later and he is still racing now. Amazing.
I was surprised how spread out the field was in those days.

THe coverage of the first race was pretty lame. While Geoghan ran away with it they just kept the camera on him while Jane and Moffat had a Ding Dong battle behind. And how quick was that Mini.
Last nights coverage is a great addition to the other 4 Sports Sedan / Improved Production car races I have from warwick. Two with Moffat and his Mustang against Pete in the SUper Falcon in the wet and a couple of other races with one Richard Johnson racing a Zupps sponsored Torana.

Loving these old races, good stuff and without the ads, and dare i say it, without all the constent replays that todays racing is bombarded with.
I was pretty tired last night and fell asleep with about 15 laps to go through the second race of the F-5000. Who won? and did Larry go on to win the Title?

WOW!! What a Eppisode tonight
the 1978 AGPat sandown, both Ansett elfin cars crashing out, garrie coopers was particularly nasty looking although he only suffered a broken leg,and right at the end of the race allan hamilton has a very bad crash and you could see his legs hanging out what was left of the front of the car.
Then there was a race with J. M Fangio,Jack Brabham,Bill Paterson, and a forth driver John davison? that was also great to watch,J.M wasn`t holding back in his mercedes thats for sure, and then to finish of the night the Hang Ten 400, during the telecast they said that 50 cars started and only around 30 where still running at the end of the race, moffat had troubles with the cobra, bond as well, cars where going off all over the place, pity about Bo seton spinning at the end and losing 3rd,great to see the MARLBORO Holden Dealer Team do the 1 2 finish.
Over all its been great watching late night legends this week as ive been wondering if and when they were going to be playing some motor racing instead of cricket and rugby, so hats off to racer69 for the heads up!.

Clubbie,
The 1st, 3rd and 4th shows are repeated this Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights respectively. See the link in the first post of this thread. Don't know why they aren't repeating the 2nd episode (early touring cars).

Bugger. Due to last minute equipment failure, I was unable to record tonight's show (1978 Aust GP and Sandown 400). I missed it the other night too. Can any one help me out with a copy (either DVD or video) please?

Hey Yogi and Martin,
Also put me in on the loop of PMs. I recoreded all the episodes (caught a couple second time round) and have converted them to DVD. Unfortunatly I ddnt have a very good signal on Tuesday night (turing cars from Warwick Farm) so I would really like a copy of that.
