View Full Version : Channel 10's poor poor coverage on the day

I'm surprised no one has commented on the very POOR coverage that TEN dished up to it viewers of the Bob Jane T Marts 1000. First up TEN kept telling us of this great new technology they were going to use to show us the comparison of the lines taken through corners etc etc yet only once during the day did they use the technology and only to show us the difference in a pitt crew technique. Then there was the demostration lap of the new falcon and the 25th anniversary lap of the Moffat Bond 1/2 Falcons, they hardly covered the 1/2 falcons lap and kept on with the demo ford instead (it took watching channel 7's news later in the day to actually see Moffat and Bond get out of the cars and shake hands) another thing TEN failed to show. Then almost every time they crossed to an onboard camera's the picture and sound broke up and they quickly moved back to track side camera's. Then there was the obvious lack of any speed and tacho readings during the day with the first and only tacho and speed reading being shown at 2:45pm. Finaly the grand announcement that they were not going to stay with the presentation segmant at the end of the race due to the terrorist attack in Bali, now don't get me wrong it is a terrible thing but there are three other stations who can all show this event yet they cut us short to cross to the news. If their news was to start at 6pm like all the rest we would have seen the presentation anyway and apart from this they did announce that they would show the presentation during sports tonight after the news then they only telecast the winners presentation and bypassed the runners up. Very Very Poor indeed. Give it back to Seven who for years did a better job and their news starts at 6.

I agree Diecastdude somethings were wrong .I enjoyed there car and driver profile segments through the day,Unforgivable and Disrespectful to miss the Moffat / Bond Lap of Honor
SHAME SHAME SHAME.

What got up my nose most was to see the race with the Orange RT Charger ,and the other classics abandoned after half a lap.
Race Control let down alot of people by not restarting,I felt for the Teams, all that work and not even one full race lap.

Still enjoyed the Great race ,and the Best on the Day one.

Cheers

I hope you all noted from Ten's telecast that someone makes real smooth bourbon. Liked that and the new Ford XR8 ute; not so keen on Mario or Yoshi....some TV ads really wear you down and goodness knows how many times we saw those during the day.

Apart from the horrowing ad breaks and pace car periods, I really did miss commentary from Neil Crompton and Barry Sheene.
Don't mind Billy and Rusty, but Mat White should stay on Sports Tonight.

I also agree that the pre-race and support events storytelling left something to be desired, and that the Moffat/Bond thing was stuffed. You will all have noticed that Ford held a large stake in sponsorship so Geoff Polites no doubt paid for his on-camera time. Perhaps the BA and XC's should have done separate laps.

Anyway, don't forget that twist of lemon fellas !!

Whinge whinge, just be happy they show the race on tv. Some of you people are too hard to please, honestly. If you think you can do a better job, by all means, go ahead.

Go suck a lemon Glen, and forget about the bourbon !!

I'd give it a go, but my old KE55 Corolla with 55kW and an incar videocam taped to the dashboard would have trouble getting up Mountain Straight.

I was equally dissappointed with the coverage of the XU-1's parade lap. They got to about the end of mountain straight and that was it. Did anyone get to see the XU-1 show at the bathurst showgrounds on Saturday? Well worth the trip on its own (my biased opinion of course).

Harry Firth and Ian Tate were present as were Brocks 1972 and 1973 cars !

How avout a pic when I get the roll developed ?

Have to admit that I only saw about half the race.

But that was because of all the $#@*%@* adds!

The only good part about the adds were the little (all too short) segments they slipped in about the old cars/races/drivers.

Congrats to Bob Jane for sponsoring the race, but I wonder if he did a deal with Ten along the way to keep their advertising clients happy.

What's more is how frustrating it was to see the winning cars pull up in the scrutinizing area after the race and then get the bloody score card covering the picture for way too long. Just glad that Scaifey and the others took some time to get their helmets and gloves off before they managed to shake hands. A good sign of sportsmanship.

Channel 10 said they'd show the presentation on sports tonight after the news, they only showed Skaife & Richo, what about Ingal/Richards & Bright/Mezera on the presentation dias???????& what they had to say about the race?????

The only thing I enjoyed about 10's telecast
was the Inside line segment with Skaife, Murphy
and Lowndes going flat out around Bathurst
taking turns in the lead to describe the
track.

Here in Perth, we are behind time by two hours, hence instead of crossing to the news of the Bali catastrophe we got a two hour race highlights package which included the post-race presentation to 3rd, 2nd and 1st place getters.

Brighty was pissed with the stewards, but the others all seemed cheerful enough.

Must admit that I caught myself screaming obsceneties at the TV when the ads were on. Far too many of them and not enough race coverage.

I have also mentioned before TEN's poor coverage of the QLD 500.

I missed the in car cameras and the telemetery data..........that's always cool to see.

I hope coverage improves.........

I'm just over 41 years old and have seen every Bathurst since I was 9 years old , 1987 & 1990 I went down, best thing I ever did , took me 2.5 hrs to walk the track in 1987
I enjoyed rock and roll music in my teens HUSH and SWEET and all that stuff, but I 've had a gut full of the loud music they play every time they do a driver profile or something of a simular nature , give us oldies a break channel 10 .
If I want to listen to that crap I would listen to Triple J.
I turn on the TV to watch a car race hopefully, racing cars having a good dice, I don’t know about you but I don’t have much interest in looking at someone’s head or Mark Larkam's toes and now we have a shot of a tyre going round , what next! a camera in side the engine bay staring at a heat gauge , GROW UP.
They have all gone mad at 10 , techno mad and a bunch of show offs as well, I don’t care if you can do this stuff, give us back our race the best race we had in the world before pace cars, car polarity and hundreds of adds have stuffed it for me.
The one technical thing that is fantastic is the Race cam out the back window and we don't even get that much anymore.
Agree with the rest of you , I waited eagerly to see Moffat and Bond in the XC's, shame on you ch10, as for the rest of it, that is V8 Supercar racing and almost every thing else that is run by officials these days.
What do you expect when people with less intellectual capacity desire to be a somebody and volunteer for jobs as officials

I am in Scotland and watch the race at 1am in the morning until 8:15 so it was a long night. We didn't get all your adverts and only got ours every second or third that you received, so whilst you where watching what to buy etc, we say the continued race coverage albeit with our own poor commentator. :)

There where some technical issues I agree, but to see the race live again for the first time since I was last over to see it in 1995 it did not matter to me.

You guys are lucky to be able to actually go and see a race live as I think the Aussie V8's are the best race series in the world.

Holden or Ford, who cares as long as it is a V8. Both are cracking looking race cars.

Best regards from Scotland

Well all I can say is that I feel very sorry for you guys who had to endure your local commercial station to watch the race,, being in a position where I could watch it direct of the satellite feed, it was un-interupted racing coverage from start to finish,, even got to watch the presentation and some extras afterwards,,, There was some pretty stupid actions from the crowd with different fires being lit all around the grounds.. But all in all it was a good event,, even if it was just to see HOLDEN win... :D

Hey guys,
did anyone notice that for the first 50 mins or so of the race we didn't have an add!!!! Here I am thinking that it would be like the SBS coverage of the Sandown 500 (nice long race segements shown) & then it started. 4min race, 5min adds. Another 9min race, then a further 5min of adds. I know they need to show their ads, but this was rediclious!!!!

It didn't get any better all day. Yellow flag - ad. Pit stop - ad, change in the lead - missed that, it happened during an ad!!!

As for the before race segments, don't get me started. I'm sure anyone who watched Saturday in full, would agree that most of the 'fillers' that we saw on Sunday were all show the previous day. The first time they were good ?, but second time round - who are they trying to kid!!!

I always thought the new Barra was going to do 2 laps, if you only got the chance to see it on Tv, you would think at it didn't leave the grid!!!

Enough *****ing, it least I got to see the race, even though a Ford didn't win.
cheers.

I didn't think the coverage was that bad, except for far too many ads, & I've watched every Bathurst since '72. Didn't Ch.7 back that totally forgettable "SuperTourer" version that failed so badly? Perhaps that's why they don't have the privilege of showing The Great Race. I loved the profiles on the old cars, drivers & "moments".
