So this is Holden's suprise for the Sydney motor show!!!
It looks awesome, however i can't see it being built for anything under $150k+ if the GTS Coupe is anything to go by.
Now is this the road going version of the Nations Cup racer ??
I think things just got very interesting !!!!

Another winner

The HRT 427 model should look good along side the GRM Nation Cup Monaro.

I hope Biante agree

Quote from hsv link.....
"Could anyone be so courageous as to contemplate an Australian built supercar that provides a serious challenge to the performance credentials of the $399,000 Porsche 911 GT2.

That is the funniest comment I have ever heard. If holden took away all the import taxes and all the other taxes of Porsche GT2 then how much would it cost compared to the hrt 427. Nearly the same I guess. It is good to see the Holden propaganda at its best. Hahahaha. Holden can build as many big v8's as they like but its time for Holden to get power to all wheels to give Porsche a scare. Keep Dreaming 427.

Just in case somebody is interested, car taxes work like this:

Import price (in A$) + freight = Value for Duty

Duty rate on vehicles: 15%.

GST is applied through the wholesale links, but is irrelevent until it is applied to the retail price. The amount subject to GST is the sell price (less stamp duty and rego). I think you all know the rate is a healthy 10%.

The irony here is that there is a federal tax on federal tax, ie, GST on Duty. On the Porsche, it would be significant.

But wait, there's more!!

A 25% luxury car tax on the retail price over roughly $55,000 applies. However, when calculating the tax our generous Govt allows the GST to be removed, BUT NOT THE DUTY.

Again, we see the price being artificially boosted by a 25% LCT on the amount on duty originally slugged at customs entry. Pretty tricky hey.

Just thought you might like to know how and where your hard earned is pick-pocketed from you.

Keep on saving, Toecutter.

The current rules in V8 Supercar is the vehicle has to be a V8 front engined, rear drive sedan. So the Monaro cannot be raced under these rules, and I don't think they will change.

Toecutter makes a valid point, and I think here's another one.

How would the 'Aussie' Super Monaro compare if you take out all the General Motors (US) bits?? My guess is you'd have a pretty impressive bodyshell

I believe the Porsche is all Porsche, isn't it?

Cheers, ET351

Well I would like to add a few points. The rumours I have heard HRT are going to make between 25 and 50 of these cars.

I wonder if this 7 litre American engine will meet Australian Emission standards.

Do ADR allow for a roll cage to be standard on a car?

I also heard the cost of these engines are very pricey in the US let alone importing them down under with taxes and the great Australian dollar.

There is also rumour that HRT/HSV/TWR are looking at running this car in the nations cup series. Now if this car is not a true production vechical, then how can it be raced.

I think it is just a concept car simular to the new GT-40 in the US.

I did get a laugh at one comment tonight in another forum. A certain person was talking about not wasting his money on the 427. Instead he was talking about boring the CRATE 5.7 in his SS out to 7 litres.

Damn I might have the Bore the old 289 out to a 400Ci engine if thats the GO.

Dam that 427 coupe is nice and be great in 1/18. About time also, that dual exhausts were put back on the aussie V8 muscle cars.
Only a minor thing I dislike on the car, and that is the fuel cap / cover

I'M STILL LAUGHING AT THAT HSV QUOTE.

Porsche is made from all Porsche parts except the Boxter body shell in made in Finland by a company called Valmet Automotive.

Hey Wombat, Im still saving. Only 399,000 payments to go!

Glen

i wonder what would happen if ford released their own version of a falcon coupe???

one can only hope that there might be a spin off from the V8 supercars and call it something like V8 Supercoupe series

then again people relate more to a sedan than the highpriced coupe........

Well the Niece and her boyfriend are off to the motorshow tonight. The BF is a Mechanic and I was going to get him to ask these HSV guru's about thier new fangled Porsche/Ferarri/Lambo killer.

Can anyone think of a question they may wish to throw at the guru's?

I seen this car in the flesh today. The car externally looks like a Monaro with twin tail pipes.

The other big thing on the holden stand was the SSX AWD V8 hatchback sports commodore. Great concept car.

The Ford GT was OK but the colours were a bit Blah. No 1/12th scale models on sale so the First 1/12th Biante is still under wraps.

I picked up some Benz collection Models from the MB stand, Prices are better this year than last by $20.00 per car. I got the 2 F1 2001 cars and the SLR and CL55 AMG, the F1 cars were $130.00 each this year and no postage.

All in all the show was good the Schmacher Mobile was popular but $3,000,000.00 Gees, hope the 8 guys that have put up the dollars have 60% no claim on their insurance.

For all the Sydney guys $15.00 dollars is worth the look.

Oh yeah the HRT 2002 models are $149.00 at the HSV stand.
