View Full Version : More Aussie PS2/XBox video games
With V8 supercar race driver being such a success Codemasters or any other video game companys should consider making more games.
With my games David Brabham is in Le mans 24hr,Possum Bourne is in Rally championship,Glenn Mcnael(current navigator to Dean Herridge) is in WRC,Glenn Setons FTR car is in GT3/GT concept and V8 supercar race driver(I have about 10 autographs on mine including BTCC ace Yyan Muller).
With such good graphics on V8 supercar race driver I thought it would look good on a game like-Autralian touring car legends with all the old cars and tracks and the gamecould be themed in the late 60's to early 80's and rpobably with catagories like F5000,Sports Sedans,Group C(post 1973),series production(pre 1973).
For the sounds etc owners of the old race cars could assist with the sounds and handling of the cars on the game.
Just imagine the cars on the game...XU-1's,early Monaros,Mustangs and maybe a phase 4 GTHO as a bonus car.

Sounds like a great idea, now if we only had another 100million people in australia to buy such a game, someone might listen!
Anyone played Race driver ? I got the game the day it was released & was amazed my the visual effects, but the actual game play was crap!!!
This may sound harsh, but it was simply too easy! Now some will say that you'll never please everyone and they're right. But when in the closest championship i've had in the game, I doubled 2nd places points tally & then I drove the mini in the top championship & I was undefeated in every race - what a joke!
Tell me in the real word a mini would have a hope in hell, of beating cars with 3 times the amount of horsepower - well it did in this game!
I have high expectation, i'm used to playing games like Nascar & GP3, which are challenging, but the V8's game was a very big let down. For $110.00, I expect a game which I am not going to finish in 2 days!
If your looking for a game that is good for the kiddies, then V8 Race Driver is fantastic, if you want a game that is true to reality - then forget it ( I did a low 2m04sec around Bathurst in a Falcon!!!!)
For a great games company such as Codemasters to produce such an infearer game is an absolute joke. I just hope Colin McRae 3 stays true to it's previous versions and doesn't follow the new V8 parth !
Next time I'll save my money and wait 12 months when it will be $49.99 after it goes platium.

brchi17 i thought you said it was easy, yet you only managed a 2min04s around bathurst, my best is a 1min47s in a falcon, in the dunnydore i could only manage a 2min15s. very crap gameplay, only played the game for one day, havn't touched it since.

Fair call oldxr,
but to be honest, after that lap time i didn't bother trying anymore. I suppose if i played it some more and was actually interested in trying, i could do a better time.
There was no competition and i won by a 'country mile' so, I guess I took a leaf out of the Brabham book of racing, where by you win by the slowest speed possible!!!
Next time you play guys, try setting the difficulty level to 110% and see how you go.
Dave from Kiwiland!!
ps At least we have finally got a game with V8 Supercars in it!!

hey Dave,
thats works ok for one race, but i don't think it works in career mode ?
if you know how to make the career mode harder please share it with us as i don't know how.
cheers.

I have both Gran Turismo 3 and race driver. I feel Gran Turismo 3 is a better came. Though it is nice to beable to leave tire marks, but replays, graphics are way below Gran Turismo 3's.
I am slightly disapointed in the race diver game.

So how do you guys rate the V8supercar game. I recently brought and XBOX and before buying was told that the V8 game will be in the new year.
I have GT2 on PS1 and found it a great game. The only racing games on XBOX I have are MotoGP and F1 2002. Both great games graphics wise, sound wise, etc.
is the V8 game all it's cracked up to be?
Mustang 1966,
Does Moto GP have Phillip Island on it or Gary Mccoy?
Start telling the game companies to make a Aussie touring car legends game.
hey mustang
the best way to find out is check out the codemasters forum .
i don't think there are a lot of happy customers.
i read max laps you can do at bathurst is 60

SWRT,
no PI yet on moto gp.
I got the first one and it's a good game. Moto gp2 came out 12 months (give or take a little bit) after the 1st game, so i'm hoping there will be a moto gp 3 shortly after chrissy & hopefully it will have PI.
My rating for V8 race driver
Graphics etc ........10/10
Game play ...........5/10
Long term playing life ..............1/10
Race drive doesn't come anywhere close to GT3 in terms of being realist and i hear the GT4 is not far away !!!!

SWRT/ Brchi,
It has been a month or so since I have played motoGP on my XBOX as HALO is the game I play when I get the time. I am sure they Have Garry Mc Coy and Philip Island on the XBOX version.
Will have to double check it out
Thanks A9X for the info. I think it is still going for around the $110 mark so maybe it is not worth the money.

thanks mustang,
I've only got a PS2, so I was commenting on that version of the game.
If the x-box has PI it would be most likely that a 3rd version of the game will be comming for PS2, as I couldn't imagine Sony being happy with x-box having the upper hand over them in anything.
cheers.

This isn't going to be a PS2 or Xbox game (in fact its not really a game), but anyone interested in RacingSims should check out:
http://www.west-racing.com/
Racing Legends is going to be expensive but will support an incredible amount of add-ons (at a price) anyone really keen on racing simns should love this game when it comes out.

Well, I've just been looking at this west racing game & it looks the goods.
I just hope you don't require something like Ford's Cray computer to run the dam thing.
Maybe now I can convience my girlfriend that i really need that hyperstimular !!!!!
I wonder if they are making this game for Europe, or whether the rest of the world will be considered, with regards to the various racing caterogies ?
Well worth the look.

Whislt West Racing will not be directly making versions of it for different markets, they will be making tools available for people to design cars, tracks etc.
As the physics model will lend itself well to defining cars characteristics, there would be nothing stopping someone from producing an Australian Touring car series Add-on. Admittedly, this could be something that you have to pay for. Their licencing model for the game is designed around the concept that people developing add-ons will be able to sell them.
The potential for an Australian Touring Car series would be quite good, so I guess we should keep our fingers crossed. I certainly intend to get the game when it comes out and have a play with the track/car editing functionality to see how easy or hard it is.
This game/sim has actually been in development for a few years now (originally it was to be known as world sports cars, prior to some legal issue).

Hey Bob,
Have you got any idea of when it may come out ?
How long have they been working on it ?
Games usually take around 2 yrs to be made by the big companies, so i was wondering how long this game has been in production.
Cheers,
BRAD.

They've been a little vague still on intended release dates. I was of the impression it was going to be late this year, but the year is running out. I am also of the understanding it will be a lot more expensive than buying most computer games (they really are marketing at as a serious simulator).
I haven't read the discussion forums at the site for some time so there may be some information in them that gives more of a hint of the release date.
Originally it was being developed as a game called 'World Sports Cars'. From all appearances it looked like it was going to be a very cool game indeed. Rumour is that the West brothers (developers) had a faliing out with the software distributor that ended up in some kind of legal battle. This delayed anything happening for a period of twelve months. A couple of months ago the website I posted was opened and activity has begun again....I'm not really sure of how long its been in development, but its been a very long time already....much more than most games.
Codemasters did say there will be a "Gran Turismo concept" for V8 supercar race driver with the VY and BA cars and hopefully with all tracks in the series like adding on Barbagello,Hidden Valley,Winton,Pukekohe,Sufers Paradise(Indy circuit, not older one),Albert Park and Queensland raceway and maybe a Konica series with Mallala and Wakefeild park added.

Hopefully, they can improve the game play at the same time !!!!

Haven't actually seen Codemasters effort yet, I'm still getting over the fact I spent $60 on EA Sports V8 Challenge, and prior to that the same amount on Dick Johnson's V8 Challenge.
Any one else recall that shocker HRT endorsed in the mid 90's, the graphics had a stationary car with real footage of Bathurst zooming past. Thank god that was only $20.....
What would be really good, but won't happen of course, is if Papyrus decided to use the Nascar 4 / Grand Prix Legends code to design an Aussie Touring Car game.....

Pick up Colin McRae 3 on the weekend on PS2 & its' awesome!!!!
Much harder than any other rally game & a huge leap forward from CM2!!!
The only disapointment is that you can only drive the Focus in the world championship. I've tried a couple of other cars that are offered & they don't seem to handle anywhere near as good as the Focus - maybe this is so you have to use it!!!
Otherwise, not a bad game and definetally worth the money.
Cheers.
