The Holden Young Lions car for 2001 was operated by Romano Racing & driven by Paul Romano No. 24

As far as I know this all came about so that TWR could use the racing licience of romano racing to enter the 2 KMart cars in 2001.

The HYL car for 2001 was a good looking race car. It had EA sports on the car as one of the major sponsors.

I am guessing that as the HYL was outsourced ( sort of ) for the 2001 season this car was not included in the models released.

A real shame as I like the car. Not a real fan of Romano, but the car looked good.

- Where did you get 1:43 HYL cars for 2000 & 2002 ?

Romano did poorly with results in 2001.
When I went to HRT HQ last december I put thier PR manager Paul'Wally'Wessell under the hammer and asked heaps of questions.
I really wanted to know what was the deal with Romano doing so badly, for example at Eastern Creek 2001, when you sit in the main straight grandstand you can see how the cars have covers or air boxes over thier engines, both HRT cars had them but not HRT.
Wally said that with the Romano deal, they gave Romano technical advice and Romano had the K mart cars run under his banner.
I also asked him also if Romanos spin out at EK 2001 R1 was intentional but Wally didn't really want to say it but he gave a slight clue that it was done on purpose by his facial expression.

Also at Sandown 2001,HYL was technically a 2 car team with Rick Kelly driving the HSV Coupe colour scheme in his sprint debut.

Can you tell us why the 2001 HYL car run by Romano racing was not produced in 2001.

Was it not part of the TWR contract or did it have something to do with the fact that with Romano driving it was thought that it wouldn't be successful.

The livery on that car was pretty good though. Shame we didn't get a model.

Also the Rick Kelly Sandown car, being Ricks first single/sprint drive would have been nice too. I guess I am dreaming though.

From memory both cars had Biante sponsorship too.

Well Grubby,
Romanos car in 2001 did carry Biante sponsership and I have a Rick Kelly Sandown 2001 car in 1/43 but it's a modifyed job and if I had a digital camera I'd post a pic of it.
Since Aussiecollector is in my area of Sydney he could see it.
