V8 supercar race driver broke sales records but game play is poor,my best time at Bathurst is a 1:46:41.
I think we all agree there should be a australian touring car legends game,an aussie equivalent to GP legends.
Drivers like Brock,Moffat,Grice,Johnson,Geoghagon brothers,Bond,Bill Brown,Bob Morris and other greats.
The time could be themed from the early 60's to 1984 with the last of the big bangers with catagories like Group C(post 73),Series production(pre 73),Sports Sedan,Rally Cross and F5000.
Cars could be GTHO phase 1-3,Cortina GT/500,Morris Cooper S,early Monaros,Valliant Chargers,XU-1's,SLR 5000,L34,A9X's,Falcon XA-XE,Mazda RX-7's,Nissan Bluebird,VB-VC-VH-VK Commodores,Bartletts and Janes Chevs,Moffs Mustang, legendary Sports Sedans like Mccorbacks Charger-Beechys Monaro-pete Geoghagans super phase 3,Mustangs and F5000's.

Current owners of these Classic cars would assist with the games devolopment with noises, handling etc.
All tracks should be accurate to what they were back that time.
Tracks should be Calder and Catalina rally cross circuits, old Bathurst with longer Conrod straight,Oran park and others.
A great bonus would be to have the GTHO phase 4 as a bonus car.

A game I'd like to see is a Muscle car game / simulator.
Having like SWRT has posted above, with classic v8 road muscle from Australia and the USA. And preferably made by Polyphony Digital, the makers of GT3. I'd like to see that, toranas, falcons, commodores, GT's, mustang's, monaro's, corvette's. Be dam awesome. I am 100% sure Polyphony would get all the cars in.

My copy of V8 supercar race driver is signed by-
Greg Murphy,Todd Kelly
Larry Perkins,Russell Ingall
Marcus Ambrose,David Besnard
Paul Radisich,Steve Ellery
Cameron Mcconville,John Falkner
And BTCC ace Yyan Muller

Maybe if Aussie touring car legends does become a game maybe Biante could offer a promo minicar to go with it?

SWRT

If Aussie touring car legends does become a game the Sports Sedans could be bonus cars with vehicales like Moffs Chev and Capri,Moffs and Jim Richards Mustangs,McCormacks Charger,a 800bhp modifyed EH,XU-1 sports sedans, super XB/C's,Porsches.
Also more greats could be Fred Gibson,Graham Moore,John French,Bruce Mcphee/Barry"one lap"Mullholland,John Goss,Kevin Bartlett,Peter Janson,Larry Perkins,Phil Brock and John Harvey.

I said prevoiusly that a GTHO phase 4 be a great bonus car,I found another good one.A V8 powered torana XU-1 which raced in the Easter 1972 meet entered by HDT with number #134.
A E52 V8 Valliant charger van also be a bonus car.

SWRT
29-10-2002, 08:24 PM
The Bowdin collection could help alot with this games devolopment and they also own Moffats GTHO phase 4 race that was to be.Harry Firth could be used to find the XU-1 V8 and Chysler made some prototypes of the E52 V8 Charger.

SWRT
30-10-2002, 04:57 PM
Just some more legend drivers for the game-Harry Firth,Bo Seton,Doug Chivas,Des West and Jack Brabham.
2 more John Goss Sports Sedans can be his XA coupe featured on page 28 in AMC issue 3 and Goss's XC sports sedan from the late 70's which looked like the Mad Max intercepter from Mad Max 2+3.

Australian censors have banned from sale a sexually explicit computer game ahead of a November debate by Australian lawmakers on the future of an R-rated classification for interactive media.

The Acclaim stunt-racing game BMX XXX, designed for adult players, was refused classification this month and effectively cannot be sold by Australian retailers, although it will still be for sale from overseas online shops.

The game includes an option to play as a nude female rider, which drew the censors' ire, said Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) director Des Clark. He said the game was "sleazy" rather than violent.

"Government has a classification system that everyone supports, and the industry has to look at those classifications, the code, and the guidelines when they make those products," Clark said.
Acclaim Australian marketing manager Greg Arthurton said it was difficult for producers to predict the outcome of a classification decision.

"That's what the OFLC has classified the game as, so we accept that," Arthurton said. "We have gone down the path of mapping an appeal . . . but we believe it may not be successful."

Grand Theft Auto 3 was rewritten to gain an MA-15+ rating - the strictest classification under federal law. Arthurton said it may not make economic sense to rewrite BMX XXX for an Australian audience.

The bowdin collection (www.fouronthrfloor.com.au) own these following cars-
John French's Bathurst 1972 2nd place GTHO phase 3(purple #5)
French/Beechy yellow shell #4 GTHO phase 4-currently on display at DJR
Allan Moffat's 1973 ATCC champion GTHO phase 3
Ian Geoghegans "super falcon" phase 3 Sports Sedan
Allan Hamiltons Porsche 911 T/R Sports Sedan
Bob Morris's XU-1 Torana
Peter Brocks Torana A9X "untouchable"
Allan Moffats phase 1 GTHO-4th Bathurst 1969
1972 GTHO phase 4 race car
Ian Geoghagans 1965 Mustang
Norm Beechys 1966 Chev Nova
Ford GT40 and Moffs Mustang.
All these cars could be used in game devolopment
I know that the Phillip Island museam own a Brock XU-1,the Holden performance centre own Moffats Mazda RX-7.
Several other legendary cars are in restoration like McCorbacks Charger,Beechy Monaro and Janes Camaro restoration got completed in time for Bathurst.
This game idea must be sent to some video game companys, maybe Biante could try help sell the idea?

What are Nick Short or any other Overseas members think ofm this?

SWRT

The game would need some Tassie circuits so Bakersville and Symons plains can be added to the tracks list.
All owners of current classic/legndary aussie race cars would help-no objections and for relistic damage use computer/simulation crash testing.

That would be great.Right now I'd be happy to get the new game. It is still unavailable in the US. due out Dec 10. it has been delayed 4-5 times. Why I don't know considering that it has been available in Oz since August.
I have hoped that someone would put out a game of the SCCA Trans -am series featuring the classic 1970 season. This was the year that All 4 US makers had factory support for 6 makes. It also featured the best road racers the US had. Be nice if we could get someone to put both series in one game.

I don't know a lot about this video game lark, but I'd buy a "historic" Bathurst game. Is it just a case of basing it on an existing driving game platform, or is there more to it? Back in '94 I had a go in a Bathurst simulator (front half of a Peter Jackson EB, with the windscreen displaying the graphics) and it was awesome! Even a 2:50 lap was terrifying to "experience" (incidentally 10 minutes faster than my best "real" lap, set in my XE panelvan and hindered by stopping to take photos of all the corners...) and it must be possible to do something similar for a games console. Racing Moffat's '78 Cobra, now that would be sweet, although without the refuelling fire or retirement.

What does Berketbob76 for smarty marty think of the idea?
Start contacting the game companies and hopefully someone will take the idea and put the game on PS2?

Maybe career mode to the game can be done V8 supercar race driver style exept that your are your favourite driver-Brock,Moffat etc and go through different years exept your not trying to get to the world title.
Bryan Thompson and Murray Carter can get added to the drivers list.

I sense SWRT that you are somewhat passionate about a game like this....
I completely agree with you on almost all the points raised so far, and the inclusions that a game like this must have. Someone like Polyphony Digital must be involved in order to get decent gameplay and graphics, not to mention realistic handling. And they proved thay can make smaller games with their 'Concept' game realeased a few months back. Classic Australian Touring Cars sound fantastic. I would be after the Phase Falcons (especially the Phase IV 'bonus car'), and Moffat's RX-7. But the whole game sounds like a dream come true. If only Polyphony Digital read these forums...

The concept of an Historic Australian Touring Car based Playstation game is a very nice idea and one which I would love to see happen.

However I think there are some features which must be adhered to.

The physics engine must be at least on par with Gran Turismo 3, nothing less would be acceptable in my opinion. There is nothing worse than unrealistic handling cars in these types of games.

Engine power, acceleration and top speed must be faithful to the original cars. We would not want to be able to pass a GT-HO in an XU-1 for instance down Conrod, or be lapping circuits much quicker than the originals.

Like GT3, the ability to tune the suspension and gearing to a degree and being able to choose different compound tyres would be great. In an endurance race in a lighter car you might go for slightly softer rubber to get a bit more speed, and in a bigger car you might go for very hard rubber to cut down on pit stops even though lap times will be slower.

Different weather conditions woud be fantastic. Throwing a GT-HO around Bathurst on a wet track would be awesome I think. it would also give the less powerful cars a bit of an advantage in those conditions.

Tyre wear, brake wear and the need to refuel would be a great addition to the game as it would require much more careful driving to get the best results.

You could have a simple arcade style mode for those not interested in the technical side, but I think that for the hard core fans having all of the variables would be much more appealing.

For me, the thought of going head to head with Brock's VK, Johnsons XE, Fury's Bluebird and Bartletts Camaro in a Mazda RX-7 is very appealing :)

I'd love to see someone like Sierra, do to the V8's what they've done for NASCAR. I regurally play NASCAR Racing because it is a very realist game & it can have very tough & close racing.
They (Sierra) have produced some of my all time fav games, I love playing GPL, ICR2 & the NASCAR games.
Now that would make for a great game.
enjoy.

After just looking at the lastest MRA 10th birthday issue mag, theres a story in there about famous cars that Barry Sharp made.
Some of them are-
Austin A95 with Ford V8 engine-the 1st Sports Sedan
Ford Zephyr V8 supercharged-scared the mini drivers
Dodge Phoenix-battled GT's,Alfa's and Mini's in series production
Holden FE with Chev V8 motor
Ford Falcon XL V8--more grunt then the 302 Cleveland
Jaguar-Ford V8
Falcon XY GT-not a HO,really annoyed Ford managment
Ex Jane TransAm Mustang
And lastely the Studebaker-Ford V8 dragster, the 60's equivalent to Victor Brays 57 Chev
All these cars would be great additions to the game but the Studebaker-Ford V8 dragster should go under bonus cars.
Colin Mcrae 3 contains 4 legendary bonus cars.
Also kingswood sports sedans should be added to the Sports sedan class and Hume-weir can get added to the circuit list.

hey brchi17, great idea with sierra doing a game, do you use the v8 supercar skins that are available for the nascar series??

although theres only the two road courses in the games at least they got the v8 engine noise pretty much right

Many years ago i did skins for the whole 1996 series (on N2), but i lost that when my pc crashed a long time later.
I have my car painted up in a cross between the Red & Yellow of DJR with Shell & our family business sponsoring it, I also have tried to use the Headlights from the Green eyed monstor, but mine are red.
cheers.

While is was up for the 24 hour I told Murray Carter,Doug Chivas and Brocky my idea for a Aussie touring car legends game and they loved it.
I'm sure Moffat,Johnson and others would agree to the making of such a game.
Maybe Phil"splitpin"Brock should also appear on the game.

I've heard that Race driver is the first of a series of games that will be produced with AVESCO's blessing (Tony C mentioned this in an interview just after race driver was released).
Does this mean that a decicated V8 Supercar game is already on the drawing boards?
I've been looking high & low on the Coadmasters web site to try & find out more, however currently I've been unsuccessful in finding anything!
If this is true, then I just hope they get it right!
Anyone else heard this ?
cheers.

Heres a idea for what you can do to finish career mode in this game.
Doing the 1984 Le mans 24 hour in the Brock/Perkins #34 Bob Jane T marts Porsche 956 with other Aussies like the Rusty French 956 and Vern Schuppan/Alan Jones 956 in the field.

if you guys are after a real version of bathurst, you cant go past GPL (grand prix legends) its the best bathurst track on any computer game, but no its not on ps2. its even got the full length conrod straight no chase here.
works even better on a hyperstimultor.

I wasn't aware that Grand Prix legends had the Bathurst circuit. I thought it was a recreation of the 1967 or 1968 Formula One season.
Are you sure Mt Panorama is featured?

GRPIII

yes the standard copy of GPL is based on the jack brabham era not sure which in particluar, but there is an extended version with 51 extra tracks (yes thats right fifty one) from all over the world including the famous mount panaroma in its former glory.

You'll need a console that plays the Aussie format. It's different than what weuse in the US . I was going to buy one one back in Oct. ,but was told it wouldn't play on our machines. Getting one of the Aussie consoles isn't a option either as the electrical requirements are not the same.

Could get your PS2 chipped to play PAL format games (Australia, UK etc.). Your console would currently be NTSC format. It shouldn't be too difficult, although Sony won't touch your PlayStation if anything went wrong with it after that. You void all warranties. But you should be able to play an Aussie copy of V8 Supercar driver.

Where did you find this ???
I love playing GPL (I use a non-force-feedback wheel - after burning out my feedback one) but would love to know where you came across these other tracks ?
Could you please post a link/etc..., to where you got them ?
It would be very much appreciated.
