After having a couple of visits/races in the past 18 months I was wondering if there would be enough people interested in forming our own league for some racing in 2007 ?

Basically what it would involve would be getting 10 people to commit to racing 10 night over the course of the year where we'd get together & race - basically a race every 5 weeks or so at RMR in Narre Warren, Vic.

The nights would most likely be an early week night (Mon-Wed) & the sessions would run from 5pm to 10pm - of course we'd make it a night when all interested could attend hence why I'm putting this up well before the season starts to give us time to work out a timetable that would suit everyone as I know some people work shift work.

cheers,

Hey I'm not dead yet :p !!!

To answer your comment it wouldn't be as we'd run rFactor & the quicker drivers would have to race without the driver aids

no ABS
traction control
vehicle damage set to onThis would bring them back to the field, making it quite a close series ;)

The series could be decided upon by a majority vote, however I think as a lot of people have not a lot of experience with rFactor, then perhaps running the same vehicles on different tracks may be better - the new V8 supercar mod would be the pick of the litter!

At least that way people can become familiar with one make of car & master that before they go off onto many various different types of vehicles with totally different characteristics.....

That's cool pal ;) I know it's not everyone cup of tea, so to speak. The only reason why I think sticking with the one type would be better is that it will give everyone a good chance to really get to know one particular type of vehicle (it usually creates closer racing too) - you just want to drive F1's don't you :p !!!

As I said before The series could be decided upon by a majority vote

Well, Brad and I were looking at some tracks last night and discussing them. There certainly are a lot to choose from!
Bathurst and Sandown would be definates. We were looking at including the likes of Spa, Monza, Silverstone and the old Hockenheim layout for starters.
Kyalami would be another good one as it was the first track I raced and I found it very easy to learn.

VXfan

I assume this means we can run the V8's on any track?
I do like Monza, nice fast circuit.Spa is a trickier one imo but I'll give it a go.
How about Laguna Seca?Monaco? Just thinking we could have a 'Classic Circuits of the World' series?
What about Le Mans?:D (maybe wishful thinking there)

I'd assume that there will be some form of parity that if someone like myself starts winning races regularly (stop laughing guys !! :p) with driver aids they will have some of them removed ?

Andrew, what we've been discussing is that to try & make it fair for everyone, the faster drivers will have less/no driver aids & they may have to carry more fuel (ie heaver) or even do additional pit stops if they're too quick.

While we don't want to stop people from winning, we need to make it fair for everyone. I suspect that after a couple of nights, most people will want the driver aids either detuned or removed. As you get better at it you'll find yourself wanting to explore the limits of the car more, which you can only do with the aids set to low or off.

So basically rather than put a handbrake on the faster drivers, we're hoping the additional aids will help make the newer drivers faster. You see on this game we can adjust ABS, traction control, damage, steering/braking help etc & with them, you can modify the game for a wide range of ages & abilities. One idea was to make the fastest drivers race with vehicle damage on, so they have to back off a little to ensure they don't fall off & destroy the car, which can happen ;)

Another thing we're working on is with regards to our selection of tracks. We're working on trying to choose tracks for the season where we start on easier ones & progress to harder ones over the course of the series.

With just for about everyone being new to rFactor (except for Larry, the rFactor god:p ) running easier tracks to start with, should allow everyone to spend more time learning about how the cars move. Trying to learn a 20 corner track when you don't know what the car is going to do on the limit is not fair for anyone. This was also why we've chosen to race on 'real' tracks, so at least everyone should have some idea of where they go. Even though, some of the fantasy ones are much more enjoyable to drive/race on - perhaps we can go down that route for our 2nd series once everyone is more experienced.....

I hope this has shed a better light on the series.

At Oran Park,I always find the quick right/left combo before the last corner to be hell!Get it right and it feels great, get it wrong and it's disaster!:D (and that's with a joystick, god help me with a simulator!)
Cheers,
Tony.

Yes,I know but it reminded me of the last simulator session we all had where those 2 were at each other all the time.
Don't think we'll see Wayno in the Caltex falcon!:D
Cheers,
Tony.

So what's the final count for confirmed full series runners Brad?

We've got 8 drivers locked in for the series, leaving two spare seats, so hopefully by the time Round 1 starts on January 18th we'll have a full grid of 10 drivers

Great news. Might have to organise another night so we can finalise the set-ups for the last few circuits.
Then might have to think about our 'series launch'! :D
