The australian g.p at albert park has lost the v8 supercar race next year and the albert park circuit can't be compared to the adelaide track which was the best street-road track in the world.
I think the grand prix was so much better at adelaide.
I've been to both so i can compare the two.
I think the melbourne grand prix sucks........
Any other opinions?

Didnt they loose it because it was moved and upset the V8 calender???
I agree, it should go back to adelaide:)

No Adelaide lost the GP cause Melbourne made the FIA a better offer. The V8s aren't there because of a sqwabble between TV networks. The GP won't go back to South Australia for quite a while as it was pointed out in another thread that the Clipsal 500 has a deal until 2015, they tried to run 2 races a year at Adelaide but the government didn't want to fund it after the first year.

Here, here. Well said Wayno.
Rob.
I will get there one day!!! I love the atmosphere. My fear is that if we lose Melbourne we might lose it to Australia. It also depends on how long the Victorian Government is willing to fund the losses. I can understand the V8 mentality. V8 Super cars is a world class event and not willing to play second fiddle with substandard facilities to F1 especially with no points on offer.
The main reason it left Adelaide was because of a change of Premier. Lyn Arnold took over from John Bannon (due to the State Bank debacle) who Bernie had a special relationship with. Lyn Arnold had no interest in the GP so when he met with Bernie in England to ensure the future of the race, Ron Walker was right on his heels and marched in with a better offer.

If the proposed GT3 races kick off, it should be an awesome 07 AGP, be great to see the Vette's, Aston Martins, Lambo's, 430's, Porsches etc doing battle :).....

Losses???
It's only the grand prix corporation that makes a loss, not society...the hotels, pubs, clubs, penguins etc etc make an absolute killing during the GP...which all pumps money into the economy!
If all Government spending were accounted in the manner that the GP is, then every dollar and Government spends is a loss!!!
The V8s aren't there because of a sqwabble between TV networks.
Hmmm. Funny how the same two sports departments are doing the AFL...
The answer lies in VESA locking in the Perth race the weekend before (apparently due to delays in finalising the F1 calendar), and the inability to guarantee 30 cars would make it back in time!

I just hope they GP2 cars make the trip as they will be fantastic to watch. If there was one thing wrong with the GP it would be that we're forced to buy & drink Fosters beer - yuck :bigcry: !!!

No way does the Melbourne GP suck.
Ive been to every MEL GP since '96 and I love it. The actual event however is a little light on compared to the early years.
In the past we had rock concerts, boat races, F-111 Dump and burns, Air displays by the southern knights, P2 neptunes, even a mock air race with Jet Trainers. You could by reasonable priced food from a huge temporay McDonalds, you could drink Carlton Draught instead of Fosters. The program was chock a block with nascar, 2.0L, V8SC, GTP, Nations cup, Brock Vs Johnson, Brock Vs Moffat. The F1 cars had awsome, ear splitting V10 engines :)
But I suppose all that is fluff in the end when the greatest motorsport series in the world hits the track in my home town and thats why I love it.
Cheers,
Paul.

It is very hard to compare the two when you consider Melbourne has tradionally hosted the first round of the championship whilst the Adelaide race was usually the last round. Having been to both I would suggest the atmosphere is different BUT that was mainly due to the fact the drivers and teams were "unwinding" straight after the Adelaide race whereas they are just starting their season in Melbourne.
With Clipsal being such a success I think there is now a good balance with the GP being in Melbourne. If it was to return to Adelaide the Clipsal would suffer because the traffic congestion around the city would ultimately put pressure on the Sth Aust Government to drop one event. Not evryone in Adelaide gets excited at the road closures.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!
If you have ever read some of the comments of Murray Walker, the Australian GP is one of the best to attend in the F1 calender. Every European GP has series like GP2 and Porsche supercup, so there is no variation when going to an european GP.
The V8's aren't going because of calender conflict, not network clashes. Everyone seems to forget Darryl Eastlake calling the V8 races on Channel 9 on GP weekend.
Melbourne seems to be a better place to watch F1. It is the epi-centre of Aus sport and really deserves its pole position in the GP calender.
As for the Track, I think it's awesome. Its different to the tracks that the Winter testing runs on and some of the turns, particlarly 3, 5, 12 and 15 can easily catch out drivers because they look simple but one wrong step leads to a spin or a disaster.

I live in Adelaide and have been to both, I honestly think the Adelaide F1 track was more interesting and entertaining to spectate and I think the atmosphere was probably better as well, everythng is so spread out in Melbourne and you have to walk for an eternity to get a drink or go to the toilet.
That said I have enjoyed myself at every Melbourne GP I have been to, which is all bar 1 or 2. Just hearing those cars is worth the admission price I reckon.

Variety is the spice of life and I would much rather experience a form of motor sport I've never seen before.

I live in melbourne so no sour grapes.
The track in melbourne is like a tilke track.
Maybe adelaide was a better g.p because it had more passing opportunities for the drivers because of the layout and it was closer to the actual city.
In Melbourne it's in the middle of a residential and office building environment and how many passing opportunities are there at that track.
You're lucky to see any passing there at all except for the celebrity race.
I've only been to one GP, and that was Melbourne last year.
I realise that it's big $$$ and all the associated razzle dazzle, but the thing that stood out most was the huge gap between the haves & have nots.
There were a lot of areas of the track out of bounds & things like even a remote view of the pits was out of the question.
As a first timer, I expected to see a lot more for my money, maybe I expected a bit too much.
The other entertainment was great, car displays, the scenery in genral around the park was impressive. Transport to and from Albert Park was excellent, the Melbourne tram system is a godsend.
Overall I think it is a good thing, but now I know that I need a truckload of $$$ to make the next time better!

I would not classify Melbourne as a Tilke track. They tend to be specificially designed for racing with long straights with hard braking. And I do believe that Turkey had probably the most passing this year of any F1 GP.
Part of the problem with Melbourne is that it is so early in the piece in the calender that the cars are only as good as their winter testing form. When the cars get to Europe, they do more testing and they know more about their strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, their cars become more competitive and more passing occurs. If the cars are close around winter in terms of performance, the F1 race in Melbourne is good.
Melbourne is probably the most desirable F1 race on the calender to visit. Its close to the fans, in a residential area, and has a variety of racing. If you don't like the racing there, just don't go. Theres people, not only in Victoria or other parts of Australia, but around the world who like to attend.
I will sum up with the complaint F1 racing wrote about Melbourne. In March 2005, they previewed all tracks and gave a comment about what they liked and did not like about the event. The not like comment about Melbourne was "Leaving Melbourne"

Albert Park was a Bloody good & scenic track back in the 50's.
However, the alterations made to bring the track up to current safety specs have caused damage to many buildings around the track which has caused some anger with the GP organisation & legislation to allow the GP track to be built & to run.
Whilst still being scenic it still is a relatively moderate sized track with limited overtaking areas though I do believe Adelaide was a faster track with more overtaking opportunies

Bring on the FIA GT3 sportcars at the Melbourne GP, it doesn't need V8's anyway, also GP2 races thrown in would make it heaps better.
Thr V8 crews don't have much love for the event anyway, but if it was a championship round???

I think that other than Bathurst and Sandown the Supercar races are .....ahemm.
They have been putting on great demo Derby's/racing in front of the F1 gathering in years gone bye, one has to say.
The normal sprint rounds however are slightly different, remember;.... just my oppinion.

Having been to a few GP's and helped Wayno and Brad deplete the beer supplies last year , I have to say its one hell of an event . Wasn't in Adelaide for any but did get to a few Clipsals on the shorter track and have this to say .
Adelaide sure knows how to party and I can see how from a social side and an around track side a GP in Adelaide would have been better , coupled with it being the last race of the season the atmosphere would have been awesome.
A point to consider though is how even more corporatised F1 has become since leaving Adelaide I doubt any of the antics from the teams (throwing bits of cars to punters so they didn't have to ship it home etc) would happen today. Melbourne fits the corporate image for F1 and with Ron walker and Bernie being such good mates I don't see it going anywhere else.
I am thinking hard about going to Sepang next year as my wife and I honeymooned in Malaysia and would love to go back and take the kids . I shall report back with a direct comparison .

OZ GP - hate to say this but the Malaysian F1 GP at Sepang was absolutely dreadful after you have experienced an Aussie GP. I went to the first one and the second one ( 1999 and 2000 I think ) ... The track is sensational and if I was driving on it I would love it !. .... from a spectators point of view there are some good spots to watch the action ... BUT the organisation and track facilities ( ie stuff to drink and eat ) were garbage ... there were no other support events to speak of or at least there weren't when I went ( we really get spoilt in Australia for this ) ... and you end up sitting in the heat sweating y're ring off for hours on end with nothing happening ... and I don;t count the KL marching and baton twirling band walking around the track as something happening.
I was there with some mates and we did have a pretty wild time in KL - including carting a lifesized cardboard cutout of Mika Hakkinen around every bar we went to ! And - the blackmarket merchandise gear guys work overtime outside bars flogging $10 shirts that look identical to the $160 ones they were selling at the track.
Things have probably changed since then but I have spent a lot of time in Asia and they really struggle to put on a good show. I guess for anyone that hasn;t been to a Malaysian GP it would be OK as an experience - it's just that it pales into insignificance when compared to an Aussie F1 GP.
If you do go I'd be glad to hear what you think and hopefully they've improved it and you enjoy yourself !
