As an old bloke, that's me,I wonder how many of you rev heads have ever been in a 1967 XRGT. At the moment I am prepareing to DRAG RACE two original XR'S side by side on a drag strip.Remember these cars won Bathurst and compared to todays cars are real pigs! These cars were built for the Police with Mustang parts...they are heavy about 1800lbs.and you could order one in any colour, as long as it was GOLD.Front discs only, hurst shifter, big Mustang wheel,no seat belts! The cars racing are xrgt manual/9"/4speed/modified motor, but looks original.Other car ,620bhp,twin turbo/351WINDSOR/STREET REGISTERED/ LOOKS ORIGINAL.best time 10.7sec 1/4 mile
Any way just thought the FORD fans might be interested......jamie

Sounds Good, Jamie. As it happens, there's a Trax Bathurst XR GT in my Xmas Stocking, as I'm trying to build up the racing side of my collection with variety in mind, not just modern Falcons & Commodores. I've never been in an XR GT, but have driven a 289 XR, I think it was a Fairmont(?) with a wussy little Borg-Warner 35 auto that couldn't take the heat. Nice car, though.

The new trax XR GT is the #53 Geoghagan brothers car that was the original winner before the lap scoring mistake was found out.

ahhh yes the XR GT goldie is my personal favourite.. they might not be the quickest or best handling, but ive always had a softspot for the styling or the XR/XT's.

There were also a couple of silvers and a white one as well.. these were for a tobacco company if i recall correctly and are apparently still intact today.
I cant wait to add an XR GT to my 1/18 collection.

Yes, the white one is actually here in WA, and in absolutely magnificent restored condition, it is only seen by the lucky ones...

Hey Jamie

A couple of pics of the two cars would be great.

Wombat...the motor has now been taken out and we need a new bolck(we have a spare)The problem was on LHS second cylinder
the side of the bore rusted in a small place and broke through the water jacket and because of the power of the motor we can not SLEEVE it.This motor has been in the car for 5 yrs with no problem and done some fast times so I suppose something had to give..will keep you updated with progress(700BHP maybe????)

hi jamie

just finished watching a replay of the australian drag nats on fox from willowbank. during the telecast they briefley interviewed strikey (brian strike), who drove down from cairns and showed a little underbonnet footage of the twin turbo xrgt.

"the fastest gt in australia"....he stated

now that would be an interesting model and admin cairns is so nice in the winter

Does anyone remember the news about Biante making a XRGT ???

Now I can't remember if it was a friend or actually admin who told me this.

Does anyone know any info about this ???
Are admin in the process of getting this important Ford model going ???

I'd be interested in finding out if anyone else has heard the same.
cheers.

A twin turbo 427 AC Shelby Cobra? Gezzzzzzz I would have thought the 427 was enough in a car like the AC Ace. I read an artical of a get together in California for Shelby AC Cobra and Shelby Cobra Mustang owners. Good to see old man Carol still getting out there, the Mrs and I even scored a few Packets of Carol Shelby Chilli mix last year at the mustang club auction.

Carroll Shelby's Personal Cobra. extracted from Road and Track on Cobra, Shelby and Ford GT40 1962-1983. Feb 1968.

"Carroll Shelby's Cobra had TWO Paxton superchargers atop the already potent (about 450 bhp) 427 engine.

Approx 800 bhp.
SS 1/4 11.86 sec 115.5mph.
0 - 100 MPH 7.9 sec
top speed 182 mph.

A beefy Ford T6 3 speed auto drives through a 3.31:1 limited slip diff and the standard Cobra independent rear suspension to 12.10-15 Goodyear tires on 9.5 inch wheels. With no clutch to deliver shock loads to the rear wheels, the big tires have no trouble at all putting the tremendous torque to the ground.

In the cockpit is a marvellous array of instruments, enough of them to warm the heart of any pureblooded enthusiast. In front of the driver are the essentials demanded by any race driver: Tacho, oil pressure and water temp gauges. The tacho reads to 8,000 rpm. Out in the center array area 180mph speedo, ammeter, fuel pressure and oil pressure gauges, blower pressure gauges, and intake manifold vacuum gauges that read also into the positive side of the scale when the blowers are going full tilt. Blower pressure and manifold pressure readings are nearly identical under full pressure conditions. Two auxiliary electric fuel pumps supplement the engine's mechanical pump when the extra supply is needed. And believe us, it'll be needed if the performance potential is used, for the gentlest driving nets just 9 mpg.

A duplicate car was built for comedian Bill Cosby."

Not bad for a car built 34 years ago.

Now this brings back memories, one of the first performance cars I ever road in was in my elder brothers XR GT Falcon, I think it was around 1973, I would of been 12 years old , we used to go to the Toowoomba Show grounds Speedway each month and boy it felt good when my brother would boot it up the range, the hurst shifter used to get a rattle in it in the higher rev range and those 253 Monaro's were dissapearing fast behind us , we even gave a SLR 5000 a drag , the first in lime green from a standing start and we just had the legs on it throught the gears and in top end.
Holden crap I say!
This began my long association with GT's .GT-HO's , Mustangs,351 clevelands, motor racing ,Moffat & Johnson,
My brother and my self even built a 1/2 size GT-HO PH III of MOFFAT's No 9 1973 Touring car, with a 350 CB Honda twin in it, sounded great , plus we built a 1/2 size True Blue XD of Johnsons with a 12 HP Honda in it, still locked up in my sister/inlaws garage in Toowoomba, Dick knows it's there ,has been for 14 years and hasn't seen the light of day, we were going to start off 1/2 size Touring Cars , the beginings of this way back in 1974 with the 1/2 size GT-HO. Sadlly my brother took his life in 1988 and put a end to it all .
Long live the greatest performance car Australia has ever produced, The Falcon GT/HO and thanks to the First GT the XR, Who said they didn't steer , the XR was a great car to drive, better than the XW.
