I noticed awhile back a certain shop will not sell you the Moffat Twin Set unless you got the Moffat XB from them previously or buy it as well as the twin set.

Now they are saying you can't get the Brock VR unless you have purchased another Brock model from them or buy another one at the same time.

Basically they are making you buy cars from stock they has not sold as well as others, you may argue they are being loyal to their customers, but i disgree when they are selling them NOW as a $300 - $500 package TO NEW COLLECTORS.

Is this legal - ADMIN?

I don't deal with them anymore.

This sounds very "FISHY" to me. I would contacting Consumer Affairs Pronto. No Business can force you to purchase a product you don't want.

Keep us all informed on out come.

I dont see the problem with Gateways Marketing,First preference is to there regular customers, those who have bought models from them previous ,have first oppurtunity to purchase the next release in the series. I buy from them and have always had good service.

i cant see anything wrong with this type of marketting as they no doubt are having trouble filling orders for existing customers....just like this biante website is.

i cant see the department of fair trading ruling this practice as illegal...so like it or lump it...there plenty of dealers around.

I have dealt with Gateway previously and have found them to be an excellent dealer, super fast delivery, cheapest dlivery bar none and reliable. Although I was not able to buy my Brock VR from them I will still buy from them in the future and I have no trouble with there current policy.

Highlander/Doorman,

How do you become a regular customer when they won't let you buy a model unless you get one you don't want or can't afford?

And furthermore, what if you can't afford every model that comes out and can only buy the occasional model, does that mean because your not a "loyal" customer then you will miss out on a popular model?

To me thats means to say 'if you don't get just about every model from us then we don't want to know you'.

I tried to put my name down for some models sometime ago and kept getting told "our regulars are getting them first", so am I to buy models that I don't want to become a regular customer.

I never mentioned names, you guys did and I was never critical of their delivery, etc.

Its where I got my 1st model from (Moffat 64e) and I started buying the next couple from there also, but as they are on the other side of town I started using a dealer that was closer and thats where I go now.

Terrine,
I've got no problem with shops looking after their regulars, but the issue here is why package cars together that are supposed to be sold individually, I believe it's wrong to walk into any shop to buy a product and be told you have to buy something else to get it.

It would be alright if it were an option (to buy two cars) and get a discount for doing so, but this is not the case here.

"Like it or lump it", I lumped it and won't be going back. I don't get lots of models and wouldn't class myself as a big collector like some, but thankfully the dealer in the city understands this and has never let me down.

i am glad you have a more responsive dealer to your needs.
there is no doubting biante, individual dealers and collectors all have different agendas. its not a bad idea to have 4 or 5 places to source your models to try to fill your requirements...
i know my local dealer doesnt necessarily get all models i want, sometimes biante limits numbers available over the net or sells out as we know.
i have conducted more than satisfactory business with the dealer you brought into question on several ocassions and will do so again....happy collecting

I'm with you Bathurstfan,
I used to purchase ALL of my models from a toyshop in Rosebud (2+yrs) & then for no reason, they decided to cash in on the popurality of Biante & started to jack up the price. I wore this for the next model as they said that there had been price rises (fair call i suppose) then just before the 1st AU of the DJR cars was released, the price went up again & they never, to this day have rung me to say it has arrived.

Now,
I travel to Coffey Ford which is over 60kms from my house to buy my models & they have never failed to get me one yet. Now almost 2 yrs after my first purchase from them (Coffey Ford) they still are fantastic & it is actually cheeper for me to travel to them than it is to go down to that toyshop, which is only 7kms from my home!!!

moral of this story,
look after your customers & they will come back & they'll also tell all of their friends about how great your service is. These companies who put restrictions of sales may win in the short term, but in the long run people will look for others who are better suited their requirements.
Maybe if word gets around, things may change !!!!!
cheers.

brchi17,

I know the toy shop in Rosebud you speak of as I currently work in Rosebud and have lived on the Peninsula for 30 years.

If you are interested in not travelling as far for your models, I can recommend a shop that is only 40 km's from Rosebud and has not failed to get me a model for 3 years. I am now a 'regular' and pay less for a model than off the street customers. If you are happy with Coffey Ford, no harm, no foul.

P.S. Are you prepared for the annual tourist invasion?

Rowdy.

Just dont deal with them Bathurst fan. I have some local tobacconist stores where i live who do the same thing. White XY $600 Tru-Blu $350 Cobra road car $280 and crap like that. I just walk in and admire the models, "smile" & walk out. These creeps think that everyone was born yesterday. I & everyone else kows the true value of these cars, and it kills them when a customer walks in, looks & walks out. Believe me, I dont even buy my ciggis off them either.

Yeh fair enough opinion. I guess it only tells us to have a few different suppliers we use. I regulary use 3 different shops and between them I don't miss out on any models. 2 of them still had the VR Brock yesterday at $169. All three are reliable.

Doorman,

I don't know why the Brock VR is still available, it was hot for a few days then slowed.

Its still available when I last looked on Biante's site.

The VR appeared HOT because none of us know how many were available in the first delivery to the online store, it may have only been 10 cars for all we know. It had the perception of being an instant sell out, good for marketing and creating lots of aprehension on the forums.

If you look at the forums as a guide you will see the same names each day talking about the same things, I think the members list says less than 500 members and its most likely the same 50-100 forum users each day. So out of 5000 to 8000 cars produced they were not going to sell out in a day. The only time you need to get on the case is when the model is limited to less than 1000.

Like most of the other writers have said, get to know as many dealers as possible, in Sydney we have a plentiful supply of dealers and options especially for HRT products I have 4 holden dealers that hold one of everything for me each time something is issued and I buy from them depending on which suburb I am working in that week, that way they all get some my business, this is as well as a great store in Clyde (Auto Models) these guys are good and Sherriffs for the older harder to find F1 cars without the risk of the online auction sites.

Never ever go the the overpriced petrol station at homebush unless you just won powerball and its a car that no other shop in Australia has.

Patience is the key, and if your stuck use another forum user to help you out, I am all over Sydney every week and can purchase something on behalf of somebody any time and as I have my own business I also have a Merchant facility for CCards so payment is easy.

So spend less to worrying about the wankers out there and lets help each other and have a good time. Lets face it this world has enough agro happening.

Bathurstfan, I'm with you. That practise strikes me at least as co-ercion, at worst as extortion: "buy from us only, or else". You try that in the Transport game & see how far you get. We're very limited here in Canberra for model suppliers, having only 4 or 5 right across town & the best one is actually a Hardware shop & 1 of the only 2 I can get to without a major expedition. They're very good, as are the competition up the road which is actually a toy store. Neither of them try that sort of stuff & will sell to anyone off the street, as they should. Good collecting.

You wouldn't be talking about the Raceplace in Seaford by any chance would you ?
I've bought a few of my 'non Ford' models from them & I've found Ivan to be very good.

There little chance that I would change buying my Ford's from Coffey, as they have been fantastic & have always looked after me. Now if things changed & I wasn't looked after, then of course i'd look elsewere, but hopefully that wouldn't happen.

If you've got a good supplier, perhaps we should give them some praise on the forum.

Thanks again,

PS. Now if can just get that toll gate on the freeway, i'll be a multi millionaire !!! (I think they are a nessary evil !!!)

cheers.
