Beginning on the 1st of Feb will be this years famous Nuremberg Toy Fair in Germany. This fair is the traditional beginning of the collectors year and see's all of the manufacturers unveil their next years plans and new announcements. Bev and I will be flying out on Sunday to attend the fair and as with last year I will be taking as many photo's as I can of everything that I can. Early info from our manufacturers is that this year is going to be great with pretty much everyone having 'Something special' to show us.

All of the pictures will be uploaded into the gallery section of the Biante website HERE (http://www.biante.com.au/gallery-details_27690.htm) on the 6th of Feb once we are back in Hong Kong so keep an eye on the site for some BIG surprises.

Is there anything that anyone wants specific photo's of?

not that I know of Tony, hence why I put it up.....atm they've only done the German GP with no driver & incorrect rear wing & the soon to be released carbon fibre testing version.

I'd also like someone to re-release a 1988 Senna McLaren to go with my other two world championship ones, as they're too bloody expensive on eBay....

Same here. Then I can have the '92 car for my 'First wins Collection' and the '94 and '95 cars can go in the Champs collection. Only question is, where do I put my Schumacher/Alesi Taxi car? It was made to celebrate Alesi's first win but it's Schumachers WC car. Decisions decisions.

didn't you notice a distinct lack of IXO rally car announcements? I'm sure there will be more Atko cars in the pipeline; given that IXO have a habbit of holding back on what their releases will be might have to do some digging like I used to; also note a lack of AA rally cars listed and the fact that the New Trofeu releases is not up to date ;) that I can guarentee!

If Minichamps list it as a Feb 07 release it normally means you'll see it appear in Feb 08.

Now that I've resized the pics I have started to upload them. Going to take a while as I have several hundred.

Wayno, to be honest there wasn't a whole lot of F1 shown. The standout was the Fangio Maserati 250F by far! Please form an orderly cue behind me for that one.

Spark displayed a heap of new models and plans for the future. They have managed to have 46 of the 50 cars that competed in the 2006 Lemans race in their program with another two (Spyker) possible for the future. This number is outstanding from what is essentially a very small manufacturer. They also have 6 new 1:18's planned of which 5 are LM winners.

Heaps more news but I gotta get back to uploading the pics.

Well actually that is not true. They have not taken over the distribution from Minimax. All of our cars except for the Audi R8 in 1:18 have come from Minimax. Audi's from Minichamps. For all future models everything will be coming from Minimax with no Minichamps involvement.

Maybe the lack of current F1 models goes in side with the slight loss of exitment regarding this class of racing.
The old models of the 60-70- seems to be the wanted era.

I was thinking the opposite IMHO. For the past 10 years of F1 there have been plenty of cars released.......where as the of the 60's & 70's era there is no where near as many released & hence why they can bring such high prices....???

Actually I didn't, all I took home were the P-cars. Three of the 956/962's, and the two GT1's from 1997. If you and Mark had had your way, I'd have walked out with a lot more though :D

Try this link on the history of Rally NZ for starters....

http://www.silverfernrally.co.nz/marathon/history. htm

In more detail...

The rally was NZ's first ever round of the World Rally Championship and featured a battle between a 3 car works Fiat team, and two locally prepared Mk 2 Escorts, one driven by a young Ari Vatanen.

Vatanen crashed off the road during the opening leg, dropping from first to 32nd. He then drove as fast as he could for the rest of the rally, eventually finishing in second place 90 seconds behind Bacchelli's Fiat, but his car didn't have one straight panel on it after numerous crashes. On one long stage (102km), Vatanen actually caught and passed all three works Fiats who started ahead of him.

If the rally had been one stage longer Vatanen probably would have won as although the Escort was battered on the outside it was mechanically sound on the inside, while Bacchelli's Fiat only just made it to the finish with the engine on the verge of complete failure. In fact the rumour was that some major (illegal?) engine work was done on the car to get it to the finish.

This was also the rally that Markku Alen was going to be excluded for not stopping when a police car was chasing him trying to give him a ticket for doing 132km/hr on a touring stage, but Fiat protested on a technicality, and he was allowed to continue against the organisers wishes. Alen eventually finished third.

This rally, and in particular Vatanen chase, is now part of rally folklore here in NZ.

k1w1taxi
12-02-2007, 04:44 PM
To add further to the story
Vatanen rolled the car when he left the road on the tricky and dangerous Pie kok a riki (Pronounce it how you see it) Hill Rd. In fact he went so far down the bank that following competitors reported no sign of him at the finish. He lost a total of 23 minutes. Over the rest of the leg he won 9 of the ten stages and climbed from 32nd to 8th regaining 5 of the lost minutes. However he chucked most of it away on the next leg when he tipped his car onto two wheels on the first stage, almost rolled, then smashed the suspension as he crashed back to four wheels. 5th, 21 mins behind the leader at the end of the leg.
Leg 3 saw Vatanen win 9 of the 11 stages and take another 2 mins off Bacchelli. Bacchelli and Alen were leaking oil at Service and the Fiats starting to look fragile.

The 4th leg was a 22 hour marathon (ahh the good old days) After crashing again Vatanen passed all 3 Fiats as mentioned above on the 102k Pehiri-Rakauroa stage. (try that Mssrs Loeb & Co) Vatanen then lost more time with a puncture and holed oil tank while Bacchelli had an off losing time. Vatanen third o/a and down to 10 mins behind Bacchelli and 1 min behind Lampinen.

Last leg saw 67k of SS cancelled while Ari claimed back 6 mins before dawn, then Bacchellis car lost oil pressure with just a service and the final stage at the Auckland Domain to go.

Final Result
Bacchelli 24hr29m55s
Vatanen 24h31m29s

Ari's first finish in a WRC event after 7 DNFs (4 Crashes) and the birth of a legend.

Cheers

Autoart are missing the boat on the Group B cars, with every man and his dog starting to make them! They assured me 2 years ago they'd be making them so I'll wait rather than buy a Solido or Sun Star or whatever. Solido are making the 205 Evolution as well as the "normal" T16 and Pikes Peak car, but I just don't think the detail and quality will be good enough for me....

You'll be surprised by Solido 205. It's a very very good model. The level of detail is actually is just as good as AutoArt Impreza (yes, the one where everything opens), but Solido models fall short when it comes to workmanship and the quality of materials used in production. The latter being decidedly sub par in comparison to AutoArt.

If you are on a budget and interested in vintage Rally Cars, Solido Renault Alpine, Peugeot 205, and most notably Universal Hobbies Renault 5 Turbo will not be lost among rally models by AutoArt.
