A question from the wife of 7litre- just how many of you guys buy these treasures without the other halves knowledge!?
Personally I think they are a great asset, though the shrine is getting a little large! There is no way I would deny hubby the pleasure of a new addition. Do they not realize how valueable they actually are?

Hi Mrs 7litre, i think my wife cottoned on to me when my "shaving cabinet" size display case, suddenly turned into a fully grown "floor to ceiling" unit!!!!

My better half has no problems :) She was the one suggesting to get the 1:2 Lowndes helmet when it gets released. I know I know ;) ... Lucky me.

I try to get cars for my birthday or christmas but seeing as though I only "try" to keep it to bathurst entries/winners and the brock collection, the number of packages that surprisingly arrive on my doorstep are not all that many during the year... but the better half does sort of like them ;) but I think once this cabinet is full I will be pushing to get another one :(
Patience is the key...

The Mrs has no dramas with me buying cars, in fact she has brought me a few. It is our collection and all the 1/18 and 1/43 XY GTHO's plus a Seton CC are hers. The rest are mine. I will have to slow down as we have just brought a block of land but she said get the moffat twin set and finish the DJR collection.
Hey I am not going to argue with the BOSS ;)

Hi this is MRS modelcarmad, I love the collection as much as my hubby. I have a look at the Biante and sold.com.au web sites EVERY day to see what is happening with the die-cast models. A fine example is when the Dick Johnson Sierra was due for release, he told our retailer not to worry about holding one for him. Then I saw on the Biante site they sold over 200 in one hour, ( WOW ) he soon changed his mind. It is his birthday on the 17th and I am giving him approx. $400 worth of models and the Brock VR has just arrived so that will be his Xmas present from me. As for the guys out there that have to hide their models or have them delivered to their work address, GET REAL WIVES!!! I would rather see his model collection growing making him happy than peeing his money up the pub toilet wall every weekend which is NOT his hobby......;) Cheers from Mrs modelcarmad

Hi, this is Mrs Ausdiver.
I agree - the models are an investment and they keep the hubbies happy. Why hide them when they look so good :)
Better to keep them home happy with their cars than down the pub moaning about the evil ball and chain. Besides, it means he can't complain when I splurge :D

Well done ladies, I am married to one like you girls. It is great when the guys and girls share the same interests. Infact it was the Mrs who got me back watching V8supercars.
Some of us guys are lucky to be with wonderful ladies. :D

Mrs Zorak here :)
I enjoy my husbands collection almost as much as he does. I also view them as an investment and we have an entire wall of our house dedicated to our car collection cabinets. Our kids love them as well and have their own favorite car.
My only regret is that we don't have more money to spend on them!

My collection of Biante models started in 1998 when my fiance and I were in Toyworld looking for a Christmas present for her nephew. When we had found what we were looking for we went to the counter to pay for it, then i felt finger nails stab my right arm followed by an excited little burst of ''look....look!!''
I lowered my gaze to where she was pointing and saw it........an Ultra white XY GTHO 1/18 scale model, then i understood why she went ga ga.....it was fantastic.
A couple of months past and it was Christmas day......and to see her eyes light up when she ripped off the wrapping paper to see that very same GTHO was awesome....i was in the good books for months thanks to Biante..lol
She now has an XC Cobra, Starlight blue XW, Grecian gold XW, Yellow glo 1/43 and of course the Ultra white XY....We now have around 18 models including the Moffat collection and we never tire admiring them.
She can never get mad at me for collecting these models......coz she started it...hehehe :D

Great story 3 o 7! I started out kinda the same way. We went to a car show and my wife saw a Blue XW GT and said "I want one of those for my next car". I thought this was a good thing. Next event on the days outing was a model show. I had not heard of Biante at this stage and low and behold at the show they had the Straight Blue XW on clearance! My wife said she needed to be more specific about what she asked for in the future. That was the start and no we have over 50 of them! I just gotta send her out to get a job so we can buy more!

The missus and I are in the midlle of an argument about them at the moment, I have decided to cut back to two of each road car which means selling off some of the XW/XYs and she has decided i'm not allowed to sell them even though i'm the one that has to pay for them. can we ever keep them happy?:D :D

Thanks to all for your great responses, especially to the ladies.:) From reading the incriminating posts I didn't realise that so many of you guys had such supportive better halves! Not many of those closet buyers have responded though.....interesting..... now hiding in the closet here!

All i said i yes Deary, No problem deary. Any more models you would like.
The way i look at it is the more she wants for her self the more i can buy for me.

I was changing a few of my models on display over on the wekend & the other half saw my Moffat Mustang for the first time so she ask's "what that one ???" I replied "oh you know, that's the forbidden Mustang you didn't want me to get last year".
Well that's it & it appears like I'm in for a few hours of ear bashing & what got me was her responce "doesn't look too bad, you can keep that one !!!" Well wonder will never cease & at least by looking at the many models I've collected to date she is now starting to try to take an interest in the V8's & I might soon be able to get her along to more than just one race a year.
Only time will tell & at least until she see just how many models I've got when our house is built I should be pretty safe ???
cheers.:)

My lovely wife got me started, actually talked me into my first Trax AND the first Biante, and as all my models (all 1/43) are on display I couldn't hide them even if I wanted to. She, too buys them as gifts for me (the '91 Skyline is waiting for Fathers Day) and co-ordinates the rest of the family at Birthday and Xmas time. I'm already starting to make up my Xmas list. Oh, and she has a couple in the collection that are actually hers, too.

hehehe..funny thread.
My wife bought most of my biante cars while i was still in germany.
I transferred the money and she picked them all up for me...and when i finally arrived in Australia they were still there waiting for me.
I dont't drink (just smoke now and then) or go out and don't have any other hobbies except modelcars and racing in general.
I am "homebrand's",bilo, aldi's best customer and save every $ for my hobby ;)

I also use the don't drink (too much regurally) & smoke clause on my other half smartymarty if ever she complains about me purchasing more models !!!
Doesn't work, but when you look at the price of smokes & boose, it almost equates to buying at least one 1:18 model every week !!!
cheers. :D

Though I still sneak them in the house when she is out:p

Gee, I must have it pretty easy then...
The missus was the one who started purchasing model cars...Trax and CC's 1:43...She bought the first 50 or so models before I even outlaid a dollar, and the best bit is, when guests come over, she tells them that they are all mine!!! As with Steve, she coordinates all the relo's so that I get models for B'day and Xmas...
Now, whenever I don't have the cash to purchase a model, I send her to the model shop, and she pays...;) Just last week, I ordered some decals from George for my 1:43 skyline...when I got home she told me I'd received an email telling me where to send the money, so she sent it!!!
...and as for racing, I get yelled at if we don't go...and get in really really deep s**t if I go and don't take her...Alway's good to have a designated driver for the trip home!
The only closet in my collection is the one that has all my models that I don't have room to display in it...:p
Cheers
