View Full Version : Will Biante make VP Commodore racecars?
I read a short time ago from one of the Biante staff that no plans were in place to make the VP race cars. This surprised me somewhat as with Biante no longer making the V8 Supercars, I thought these could be in the pipeline. I realise they must have a lot of other projects underway already but just thought I'd put my case forward for these models.
Biante once said they need to make around 25000 models from a mould to make money on it which is why they don't do one offs like the Efigy for example.
Well, I've made a list of possible VP's that could be made and am sure if only a few were made, they would be a success covering people who collect Brock, HRT, Lowndes and Skaife. They would certainly fill a gap in my HRT collection.
These are just the Bathurst versions I have listed but Biante could also choose to do an ATCC version instead for Brock, Lowndes and Skaife.
92 Brock/Reuter
92 Mezera/Jones HRT
92 Grice/Percy HRT
93 Brock/Cleland
93 Gardner/Jones HRT
93 Mezera/Percy HRT
94 Brock/Mezera HRT
94 Lowndes/Jones HRT (Who could forget this battle with Bowe)
94 Skaife/Richards Winfield VP ( or Skaife ATCC Champion version??)

Some great cars there, I think Biante would do well to make all of them, even if they are close or in the V8 supercar era...

It's not hard to see your a one-eyed HRT supporter:rolleyes: but I think you forgot the most important VP of all, the 1993 Bathurst winning Castrol Commodore of Perkins/ Hansford :D :D for those who collect Bathurst winners. But I'm lucky to have this one in my collection of Bathurst winners in 1:43 scale.:)

maybe he just knows that Classic has the Perkins licence and Biante couldn't do the car if they wanted to....

And that stopped Classics doing the '84 or '86 winner?...

I am sure there is more to that than we know.

It hasn't but Biante's better than that

Whilst we've had a pretty good nibble at the seventies, there is still a lot of good subject matter out there waiting to be replicated and the sixties, the eighties and the nineties are only just beginning to unfold in model form.
Biante is still recovering from it's loss of Trevor Young ... with our V8 Supercar associations largely diminished, we won't be planning too far ahead just yet, but also we won't be making binding comment on future models unless they be forecast for production within a proximal period of say 12 months or so.
But, whilst I'm in a teasing mood, a VN / VP co-product development would not to my mind be a bad idea.

the other thing I see with making long range announcements is that it give the competitors more info of what's coming, plus also giving more time for them to try & trump the market....

Which ever way you look at it, you have two manufacturers desperate for market share so if one doesnt do it the other will, from what i can gather (correct me if im wrong) perkins is committed to classics? I collect bathurst winners and will always support the biante brand, but, if classics did it first or were the only ones to do it my collection comes first and foremost:D
Just my 10 cents worth

There is so much that could be built with a VN / VP mould, hopefully its sooner rather than later Graeme. I would love to have the following out this mould.
HRT VN 91 Bathurst
Mobil VN 91 Bathurst
HRT 92 Bathurst
Mobil 92 Bathurst
GIO 93 Bathurst
HRT 93 Bathurst
Gibson 93 Bathurst & ATCC
HRT 94 ATCC
HRT 94 Bathurst both cars
Perkins ? 93 Bathurst
Longhurst 94 Bathurst
WGR 94 Bathurst
Think thats it, so Graeme can i have 2 of each by Christmas 07?? :D

Luke, I was looking through your list & you've got a fair few of them there, but it seems you've forgotten the Pro-Duct ones ;)

And Bob Jones in the black Max3 car - which went black/white later
the Lansvale boys
Terry Finnigan
the Mobil/Quix car
the Benson & Hedges car
the Daily Panet car with sample:D
and lots more that would not be commercially viable

Hadnt forgetten them Brad, was more thinking those which maybe popular and built v those which would sit on shelves for ages.
Personally i would love to see a Pro-Duct car as they were the first VN's built before the Mobil ones in 91 by LP.
Mal was going to say B&H but thats why i put Longhurst instead:D Dont know if the Lansvale one would be a big seller, i didnt mind the look of the VN Lanvale car.

I did think of mentioning the Perkins cars just in case some deal can be made between Biante and Perkins for these to be made in the future.
The ones I listed were just ones that I thought would be big sellers. People will always buy Brock and HRT. I also thought a 1994 Championship winner of Mark Skaife would be popular as well. Would give Ferrari Fan some work as well:D

'malscar' mentioned the Bob Jones car from 1993 ... it was all-black for the Shell ATCC series and as I maintain, anything in black and on four wheels looks pretty potent. Here's a pic for those who don't recall ...

You obviously have an interest in the VP Graeme. Hopefully we will see some modelled in the next few years.:2:

So Graeme since your such a ( insert fan or tease ) of the VP is there a time frame you can give as to when we may start to see some of these cars available in any size, my preference is 1:18 but if you could let us know that would be grand.

That car of Bob Jones is wearing the "dress" wheels developed by PB and Advantage Racing. They looked bloody nice (very similar to the Brock Falcon but not concave) but were very heavy. They tended to race on Dymags.

...or (im)potent in the case of the AutoArt 05 car. Looked good...shame about the performance. Black boats also look good. And All Blacks.

That Sony car was a good looker, in fact most of Terry's cars had a nice look to them IMO
So will Biante make VP Commodore racecars? How many of you realise that there is only one Bathust winning Holden that hasn't been either produced/anounced to be produced in 1/18.
That being the 1993 Perkins/Hansford Castrol VP.:(

Yes. Go look in the 'Find a Model' search and look under 1/18.

It's about time biante started working on the VP.
Good to see the 94 Brock/Mezera MobileNet car being the first worked on. I'll def be picking up that one.
