Yeah im thinking of going, although not as good as the other Historic meets the Grp N races are normally a close affair due to the use of the tighter short track.... there is a few quick Atlantics entered as well which should be good....

I think a certain member in a Pink XU1 may do quite well there ;)

Yes I will be there...I love the short track...makes it really busy behind the wheel and in GrpN very little lap time difference between Mustangs and mini's and everything in between.
I must say that I earn a dunce award because I asked the boys to change the diff to the 3.55 low ratio for the short track. But we couldn't find the centre anywhere. Seeing the car had been stored for so long I though I had lost it and bought a new one. Then we pulled the centre out of the car to change it...and bugger me....the 3.55 was in there. Which would definitely explain me being 2 secs off my previous pace at phillip Island in March. It would also explain the bent push rod and why we knackered the tacho.

Yep, thats the one, ex David Clement machine, sister car to the Toepfer mobile....
Its a quick car. Hopefully a bit of a handful on the winton short circuit compared to the XU1's :-)

Havent been to one before, and must admit historic stuff (pre 60's) doesnt really excite me, but a cheap camping trip away could be on the cards.
Anybody know if there are going to be any "legends" up there??
Cheers Bruce.

Sorry to disappoint but I won't be there :p
Brock's first car dubbed "Brock 01" will be there. It is the first public showing of the car since it was discovered in a warehouse a few months ago. This is the Austin powered chassis thing that he built when he was about 14 and taught himself to drive in.

The winner of the 1975 Bathurst and 1977 Rothmans 500 Winner in Brian Sampson will be there ;) he is a real charachter of Australian Motorsport....
The 1977 Australian Formula 2 Champ in Peter Larner will be there looking after his son....
Im assuming Greg Doidge will be there, 1978 Australian Tourist Champ looking after Son Luke.
Not forgetting the Grp N guys including Tony Hubbard, yeah hes the guy u see in Richo's Falcon Sports Sedan sliding across the roof of Trenoweth's ex John McCormack XJS.... Mini Legends Ted Brewster and Len Readand i noticed Lindsay Siebler making a return.....
The former hard charging MGB GT V8 prod sports driver Paul Trevethan, will be there in hte Lotus Cortina, incidently he still brings the MGB out on occasion....
Mike Oliver in the Silver EH, hes the guy from mem was going to race Maserati Bi Turbo's in Grp A out here. He raced Auscars etc and a Blue Grp A trimmed Commodore VK in the late 80s....
Harry and Alf Bargwanna and former Price attack V8 supercar driver Kev Heffernan will be there, id expect kev to be quick....
Brian Reed in F/Ford, id assume this is the former hard charging Clubman Sports Car driver of the 70s and also raced a Charger at Bathurst with Tubby Ritter.....
Harold Roberts in the Elfin 600, he has had this car for a long time, he actually gave Lowndes, Ingall, McConville and co a hard time at Winton in the old rocket in the late 80s and early 90s during the former mentioned guns respective appearences....
Im sure there are other guys there, an absolute legend bloke with his knowledge and Photos would be Neil Hammond, if you ever bump into him he will tell you some amazing stories and has an equally impressive Photo collection dating back to the 70s.....

Mike also ran with a Grp A Corolla in 88 but crashed it up near skyline, the Blue Commodore you talk of was actually a rare Grp A/3 that was pretty much stock standard inside but had a full cage and Grp A runing gear installed and was driven at various meetings.
For those who used to watch Auscar racing the cars he ran were the dayglo Orange VL's, he wasnt a bad steerer but just didnt have the luck to go with the ability.

Don't forget Mike Oliver also had the '200mph Falcon' effort around the bowl at the You Yangs proving ground with his #38 EB Falcon Nascar back in the old Thunderdome days ;)
NB. the car never managed to crack the magic 200mph, but did average a lazy 197.61mph about the oval :)

Yeah that would be sweet.
I am going up 5am Sunday morning.
Heading up through Yarra Glen way as it is more fun than the Hume.
Tough weekend up there for us. Had a major oversteering problem in qualifying and ended up only 13th on the grid. In Race 1 got cought up in anouther cars accident and had to go infield to avoid it and rejoined about 30th. We picked up a lot of places and ended in 16th. Race 2 was good as it was a reverse grid and I was making great progress picking off cars until it was red flagged after about 3 o 4 laps. Finished in 6th I think. In race 3, which was a Ford vs Holden stoush my throttle jammed open on lap 2 and stayed that way until the race was again red flagged on lap 4. But in th e2 laps I drove with the throttle jammed open I managed to have two off's and miraculously rejoined each time without loosing a spot. In the 4th race I dropped a pushrod off the line so ran on 7 cylinders so had no stright line power and was really stuggling to stay with a couple other cars. In the end I tried too hard and ended spinning, the car stalled and wouldn't restart.
All in all I had a great time, did a lot of door handle to door handle racing, some of it very eratic due to a number of problems with the car and driver, but took the car home in one piece.

What a great day. Have taken over 700 pics and a few videos and will be putting them up on webshots and youtube as soon as I have time to sort through the crap.
Seeing Brocks first car and a Ferrari F430 next to a old Monaro in the car park was pretty cool.
Some of the racing so close I was sure they hit, and some did. A old Porsche came off second best with a MG when the Porsche spun and got hit in the nose by the MG
The real racing was between the minis and the mustang though.
I think the minis don’t use the brakes as they just ate up the gap that the mustang had pulled over the straight.
All in all it was a good day and was glad the sun was out without a cloud in the sky.
Will be going back next year for sure.
Cheers
James

Where were you positioned around the track?

We were right at the end of pit straight just before turn one.
Right where all the accidents and action was :)
There was a lot there and a lot at "tank" corner...the first hairpin off the sweeper.
Great weather too huh
