This is shaping up to being a super weekend, a real grand final feel, winner takes all. I have being looking forward to this round for 6 months. My mates and I have rented a house on the island and intend on making it a big weekend.
My tip, Tander to bounce back, Whincup and Lowndes to take each other out :D. Gut feel, I think it could be Whincup's year. My mate reminded me of a comment I made back in round 1 when I said that Whincup was my dark horse for the championship, maybe its going to come back and bite me!! Go Tander.

why not :D
I'll be there for most of the weekend (not sure about Friday yet) and I'd be happy as long as it's not CL, in fact if the Toll guys can't win it then I'd really like to see Jamie Wincup win it.

I hope the dq from Race 3 (3rd place) at Eastern Creek doesn't come back to haunt him - how handy would those points be now!!!??? And all due to 888 incompetence.

Won't be there but will be watching from home. The series has really come alive since Sandown and looks set for a great final battle. I expect it to be alot cleaner then 2006 as well.
It is too close to call but my hope is for Whincup to win it but Tander would be a worthy winner and Id have no grudge against that.
Here is hoping for another strong round from 888, FPR, SBR, and DJR :D

given that Tander seems to be a relative introvert (or at least not a huge extrovert) the best means of improving his performance would be a low dose of caffine or another adrenaline agonist..........just gotta hope if he does take something like an E that there isn't a random drug test in the pitstops.............blow into this sir, have u been taking anything :p lol!

Because it's his own fault and unfortunately not a new thing with him.
He frustrates me so much. He's a desperately talented driver(I think the fastest man out there), but he let's himself down and it's sad to see.
That performance last week-end from a championship contender was painfull.

The only reason 888 are in contention is because of their endurance results, or else they wouldnt be in it!

Yeah agreed and il still stand by by statement that Bathurst SHOULD NOT be part of the championship.
It was always a big enough event to stand up by itself, and should remain so. The fact that a co-driver that doesnt compete in the series can have a result on someones weekend who competes all year in the series, still makes my mind boggle ....

Both 888 and HSVDT should have heaps more championship points due to internal issues...bad car releases, parts failing that shouldn't, being taken out by incompetant gits, team collisions...
As long as it's either 888 driver or Tander that wins, I'll be happy:D...and I'll be there to watch it too!
(PS, Tony, we don't know where Gregs little hidey hole is either...he'd disappear and reappear like clockwork last year;))

But the enduro's are still part of the regular season, so they still count. They also take a special effort to win.
CowboyMatt

I think the enduros should count.
Adds an extra dimension to it.
Can't play favourites - if you eliminate one then they shoud all go. That would remove Bathurst, Clipsal and Sandown (now PI).

Copy of a letter sent to Stacy at Paul Morris Racing....very funny....to the ford fans anyway..
Stacey,
Just wondering if Paul can help out our group of motoring enthusiasts next
weekend at the bigpond Grande Finale.
I represent a small but proud group of fans who have watched, with keen and
eager eyes, Paul's racing career. In particular the 2007 series.
We feel that Paul has the skills and abilities to represent our group.
It appears that since Paul has an uncanny knack of causing damage and mayhem to
many of the other competitor's in the V8 supercar paddock.
The highlight, to date, was 2005 when he nudged Jason Richards over the curb at
QLD raceway and he barrel rolled 10 times.. what a great stack.. Prior to that
it was the big stack on the grid at Oran Park when he came to grief with Mark
Larkham. Thanks Paul.
This year we have seen him take out the likes of Johnson, Bowe, Steve Richards
and Ingall.
More enjoyable to watch was his stouch with Kelly in Bahrain...nice work. Always
good to see 2 commodore drivers taking each other out.
But I digress, back to business.
Our group of National FORD Fans were wondering if Paul could do us a brief
favour this weekend and have a crack at Garth Tander.
If Paul can find a way to work through the field (or even during qualifying) and
give Garth a nudge it will help our campaign to have either Craig Lowndes or
Jamie Winchup take out the championship.
We appreciate whatever help Paul can Provide on the day
Thanks in advance
David
And here is the reply from Paul Morris Racing
David,
That is actually very funny, you should write into auto-action and you might win
a prize !
Enjoy the racing.

How come the stewards have stated that there is to be no flapping body work and they will get tuff. Today Richo got 2 black flags while Todds LHS mirror was clearly flapping after the Lowndes move. I would say a mirror is classed as a body part. Once again the Holden stewards have done a one sided job and I bet Lowndes will get a time penalty tonight.

Well, its simply my point of view. He came into contact atleast half a dozen times with GT during race 3 today, ran into the side of GT in race 3, ran up the side of Todd yesterday.
Years ago, Craig was capable of racing doorhandle to doorhandle with guys, but now you rarely see him pass a car without having contact.
As i said, "my point of view" - everyone is entitled to theirs and i have no doubt that the Ford supporters would see it all differently and theres nothing 'wrong' with that.
Great racing for 2007, some dodgey calls and a worthy champion ...

I cannot stand Rick Kelly but can we please get over last years result? This is a 2007 Phillip Island thread
Why is it after every championship or Bathurst that people descend into a childish fight over Holden v Ford? When you have only TWO types of cars divided 50/50 on the grid, it really is nothing to brag about when one of your cars win or to claim fowl play when you lose. The cars are more similar then ever so its not even a true contest on who has the better car.
At the end of the day it really should be seen as a team and driver sport and not the brand on the windscreen. So congratulations to Garth Tander and HSVDT as you are worthy winners of this years championship. Well done to 888 also for such a good fightback in the second half of the season to give us an exciting end to the season.
Hopefully next year you will be able to go that extra step :D

Congrats to GT, well deserved. How can you whinge about a competition & points system that after 9 months brings the Championship down to Race 3 of the last round & a mere 2 point victory. How close do you want it? Sweet revenge for my Holden-fan 9yo after the debacle of Bathurst.:D

well race three was awsome not the outcome i wanted to see but great racing for the guys to race so close for 27 laps and only touch a couple of times was good to see .
as for all the complaining about what he did or didnt do grow up its all done and the best driver won on the day and yes i am a major ford fan and would have loved to have seen ford win the bathurst championship double but not to be this year but theres always next.
anyway congrats gt

a well deserved victor in GT, more round more race wins than anyone.
jamie may well feel he lost the title, he had his chance to wrap the title up earlier but didnt, same could be said about GT. if jamie won today GT could look back at a few errors too.
overall a good year, my 2 cents for 2007.
bathurst & sandown should be non championship rounds, amy go back to the good old days & also have an enduro championship. reason being a co-driver can ruin another drivers title hopes.
but if they still run with this( which they will) maybe they should ban pairing up the 2 main drivers. this sort of goes against my first point but if its a drivers championship you should be able to pair drivers up.
channel 7 coverage needs to improve a little but not too bad for first year back, bar the racecam footage, it has to be the worst signal for any incar footage ive seen last a few seconds than freezes blacks out, think they had it better in the 80's, for the guys who invented racecam its piss poor.
something has to be done about black flags for loose/flapping body work, this has been a joke all year.
as for the drivers & thats all of them as soon as they cant get past someone after about 2 laps there all onto the pitcrew to get bondy & the boys to give them a black flagg, this is another joke.
same goes with safety cars, it appears they bring them out when they want.
so incidents shouldnt even require a safety car yet other dangerous.
if a car is in a dangerous position in the middle of the race, the safety car is out even before the driver has a chance to move his car, sometimes he gets it going but its too late the safety car is already out.
but if its in a dangerous position with 3 laps to go, they leave it there. yes no one whats to see the race end under the yellows like nascar, but if its in a dangerous position with 20 laps to go why is 2 laps any difference to drivers safety, the worst example was starting the bathurst race with cams car stuck halp way up the mountain, all it would have taken was 1 car to clipped cams car (which nearly happened) and you would have taken half the field out in one hit.
they should have just given them another warm up lap, that would have given them enough time to move it.
well done to craig today, he could have punted GT off but didnt, still i dont think he is the driver he once was. will he ever get that title for ford? the money there paying him he'd want to, but that may be harder then ever next year.
888 are settled for next year & have good pace, but theres plenty of contenders too.
FPR have shown great end of year speed, just need to put them into results.
SBR are quiet up there as with DJR
in the red corner
how ever is driving the toll cars they have had great pace for the last 2 years.
HRT have shown the still have fast cars just need a little luck.
tasman are slowly getting there but wont be in the hunt next year.
so looks like it will be a 4 horse race next year with 8 jockeys viaing for the title.
lets hope the stewards wont ruin it.

What a fantastic result. Worth it just to see the looks on my boys faces as they finally got to see a Holden driver win in the flesh. :)
It's great to hear your boys were thrilled seeing a Holden driver winning in the flesh. I think back to when I was a little tacker at Adelaide International Raceway watching Brocky winning in the HDT VB/VC days. It was a huge thrill & even better when I nervously approached him for an autograph, of course I had nothing to worry about & he was happy to autograph my bit of paper. But I still remember the look of surprise on John Harveys face when I asked for his as well....I don't think he really expected me to know who he was ;)
Bring on the Clipsal..........:)
Well Done to 888 Racing for taking out the "Teams" Championship, at least they get the last pit bays in 2008.
And well done to Michel Caruso for almost taking out the Fujitsu Series, like Jamie only missed out by less than 10 points.

congrats to Garth. its great to see another 1st time champion. Also, congrats to Murph for getting the Sidchrome Most Improved award (although Murph's 06 season wasn't too hard to beat...)
hard luck has to go to Whincup & 888. It would have been great to see the young guy take the triple as Brock and Lowndes have done, but i cant help but feel that the 2nd places 888 has had in the last 3 years could have easily been wins if not for team error (and not errors made during pit-stops) - ie; if 888 didn't fit the wrong brakes to Jamie's car in r3 at Eastern Creek, he would have easily won this year. same goes for Lowndes in 05/06 - car wouldn't start for the restart at NZ in 05 after the battery went flat while the car was on the grid is one that comes to mind...
it was sad to see Bowe take his final full-time drive today, and to be honest, even sadder to so him down in 30th place in the points behind 6 enduro co-drivers:(
at least a number of teams are starting to show some pace of late, and it is setting up to be an interesting off-season (all 2 months of it) and cant wait till Clipsal 08 where hopefully more then 2 or 3 teams are in with a shot at winning:D

BTW - I have not seen the TV broad cast yet so dont know the answer to this, but was there coverage of Ingal in race 3 going nuts on the track??? We were sitting in the grandstands on the finish line and every time Ingal came onto the straight he had the car sideways. Not sure if it was captured on TV or whether he was putting on a show around the track on the other corners as well. On the last lap his drift was about 100m and he was heading for the concrete wall before he backed off. The crowd went nuts for him. Obviously a last horah at SBR.

Lowndes desperate again...going over the ripple strip and touch Tander's car, other than that..awesome race.
If Lowndes was desperate what do you call Tander in Race 3 at Symonds.
Lowndes could have punted Tander off the track many times during race 3 if he wanted to.
I suggest you get a life.

Your worry about lowndes have we all got short memorys go back 12 mouths and look at the utter disgrace Tander made of him self along with the toll team to get number one last year at least this year at the island he was man enough to race and not destroy other peoples championship
Well said. As I said before - Lowndes could have punted Tander off and handed Whincup the champoinship but chose to race instead. Nothing wrong with the move to pass - a bit of argy bargy but that's racing.

Have to wonder how the 888 person responsible for getting Whincup excluded from Race 3 at Eastern Creek is feeling right now....17 points lost.
I know there were other incidents during the year and all the top drivers had apparent brain-fades at different times but something like that is inexcusable at the top level of motorsport.

Great post Nate!:D
There's been so many incidences this season involving the top 4 drivers in the championship that to harp on about one individual event is IMO pointless...all four drivers have been involved in:
1/ Tactical errors;
2/ Driver errors;
3/ Punted by others;
4/ Mechanical failures;
5/ Over-exuberant officialdom;
6/ Team errors etc etc etc
I think it has been one of the best seasons for a while, with a lot of tension and excitement at most races!
My congratulations go to Garth for a brilliant years racing. I have followed Garth for some time, and he has always had it in him, but until recently has not been supplied with the equipment to get the job done!
Let's hope he can back it up with another championship (and Bathurst) and not end his career as a "one-hit-wonder"...
Again, well done Garth!

What a fantastic weekend, first round i'd been to; Holden finish 1-2 in the round, win all races, GT wraps up round no.4, races 14 and 15 and also championship no.1. Skaife has his 200th start, Bowe bows out on 225 (somehow ended up w/ ticket no.0111 so had to get Bowie to sign that ("How'd u get that??!" was his response lol). Catching up w/ all the guys was brilliant (though as was mentioned by one I obviously run on bloody energizer batteries lol). Was at Siberia for the Lowndes tap and I think GT's comments sum it up "all's even now". Seeing Rusty slide through Siberia as if he were racing an old tractionless car was great but overall the meet lived up to expectations.
