I don't know if anyone out there agrees, but I think the engine hood under the bonnet in the 1:18 Lowndes/Crompton Green Eyed Monster ruins the detail of the Biante engines. If anyone had the other Biante AU Falcons, eg the Johnson/Johnson 99 Falcon, they'd know what I'm talking about. The engine detail under the bonnet of that Shell Falcon is amazing. But then they decided to cover it with an engine cover on the GMS Falcon.

PS, why didn't DJR #17 Falcon have an engine cover in 99?

All 3 of the 00 cars have air box's as does the 2000 18 DJR car, the HRT cars, the the GRM cars and the Kmart cars. The only V8 Supercar Models to my knowledge, produced with more engine detail are the "two" 17 DJR cars 1999 and 2001(same as 1999?).

One of the problems would be the "Top Secret" status that the teams have when it comes to what is under the hood. They go to great lengths to hide it fromm prying eyes and cameras. I don't think they would be to happy to have 6000 models reproduced and distributed around the country. Maybee down the track as with the 1999 DJR Bathurst car we can get a peek of something close!!!!

Hope this helps.

I realise that teams are secretive but I cant understand why they cover thier engines. I'm not a technicaly adept person when it comes to race cars, and I may be showing my ignorance, but I can't understand whats to hide. Sure, they've got an engine, injectors, pumps & electronics but what can be learned just by looking, especially when its quite a controlled formula.

I thought the advantages were in the tuning and data fed into the car and the tactics as in pitting and tyre wear. Even if they run different headers, youve gotta be pretty good to replicate that by looking, and of course tuning ties into that anyway...

Unless you can hide a blower under there I cant imagine what you can hide with an engine cover. Maybe its so they have more area for sponsors!!!! I can just imagine.... "Larry, just seen under Lowndes' bonnet, He's got a V8 with limp home mode disabled!!!"

I'm sure some one out there has an idea what they are hiding. Please let me know so my ignorance won't be so obvious next time...

What do you expect when you buy a Ford.
You should be collecting the Holdens and you would not have this problem.

To sboland:
I realise you may be a diehard Holden fan. As a matter of fact, I'm a Holden fan myself. But when it's off track and it model collecting, I collect the models for the models and the brilliant detail on them, NOT because of the make or team. Personally I find the Falcons MUCH better models than the commodores. Kyosho/Biante 1:18s are so much better than the AutoArt I must say.

But for my two bobs worth I have pitty for you Holden Collectors arn't you sick and tired of placing another Skaiffe, Kmart, Asia On Line etc etc etc car on your shelves yet, I guess your in for a bit of a break cause at least you'll be able to add a Team Brock to your collections soon, same shape again but at least its a different livery to look at, I'll stick with the Fords at least there's more variety this way.
Oh by the way I'm having a s**t stir.

The reason for the engine covers, apart from the fact the teams will not allow us to leave them off, is what's under there.

In 1:18th scale and with individual componenets, not just pressed impressions, each component is there for all to see.

There are some pieces missing from most of our models mainly under the car, which we have to omit because of the secrecy. For example, a torque rod in this scale can be 20mm long, and a good suspension and handling guru from another team, would soon work out why XYZ has got a bar going from A to B.

The engines get their advantage from the injector intake design. In 1:18th, these can be up to 10mm long and also the shape is quite evident. So, we are not allowed to reproduce them.

Dick allowed us to do his car without the cover because by then anything under there was old hat and general knowledge anyway.

By the way, the AU models are not Kyosho/Biante,,,they are Biante.

Yeah I see now. Thanks for clearing that up.
Oh I was under the impression that the Green Eyed monster was made by Kyosho. Because it's code is MB, instead of the regular TR.
Thanks to everyone who answered my queries, I appreciate it.
PS sboland - I knew you were joking. Just trying to tick you off!! :D
