I'm using an LG DVD recorder when taping things off TV and converting VHS to DVD
With some of my recordings though, when i play them back after finalizing i'm occasionally getting a few that jump in places and stop/start etc...
Is this a sign of the recorder getting tired, a problem with the DVDs i'm using (usually Sony DVD-R), or something else.
Thanks in advance for any help :)

Depending on age, it could be your recorder doesn't like the speed (16x) discs when burning them. I have an older pioneer recorder that i found recorded badly to 16x discs, but worked fine with 4x dvd-rw

I have similiar problems with mine.I think the first problem is that it is an LG. Second problem is that if you read the operation manual ( not sure of the page number) the LG recorder will only operate properly with certain brand discs. They are DVD+R Mtsubishi or Verbatim....DVD-RW Mitsubishi Victir Maxcell...DVD+RW Mitsubishi Verbatim and Phillips.Sorry but I cant read the ones for DVD-R.

I find sony discs period too be crap. Your best bet would be to go for discs such as Verbatim (use over 1000 of these a year and never a problem).
I got a Panasonic in 2006. Started not burning the disks well just as the 12 month warranty ran out. Then had a problem were it thought that it had a disk inserted when it was empty. Paid $300 for it to get fixed with a subsequent 3 month warranty. Stopped burning disks again after this ran out. Mate has the same machine and never had a problem.
Actually forked out for a new Panasonic with a larger hard drive (why you might ask) mainly as I knew how to operate it reasonably well after 2 years or so & could not be bothered trying to learn another make.
Also coughed up for the 5 year warranty on the second machine. Touch wood, this has worked great.
I've used all brands of disks & been told that they are all pretty much the same albeit only by some kid in Harvey Norman.
