I'm a big fan of the Nicholas Cage gone in 60 seconds, however they lost me what that fictional jump crap at the end of the movie, otherwise a great flick!

I'm glad someone else mentioned that barrel roll from Transporter 2, as that nearly made me switch off......surely the budget wasn't that tight that they could of afforded to blow the Audi up & have him use something else  !!!

Same here Brad. When we went and saw Gone In 60 Seconds I actually said 'Please don't' when it looked like he was going to jump the Mustang. I didn't mean to but it really spoilt what was an otherwise enjoyable movie.

The Transporter movies are supposed to be OTT so I didn't mind the barrel role scene.

Have you guys seen Shoot 'em up? Out OTT's the Transporter movies. Not my thing but hey, can see why some people would enjoy it.

Two of my favourite movies of all time are Saved (Mandy Moore and Macauley Culkin) and American History X (Ed Norton and Ed Furlong). Have them both on DVD and watch them regularly. Neither are high budget block busters but they both hit the mark perfectly, for TOTALLY different reasons.

wazza002
24-11-2009, 07:28 PM
So Richard what are they about as I have not seen or hread of it mate.

cheers wazza :)

Richard Poole
24-11-2009, 07:47 PM
Saved is a bit of a look at religious zealots and what problems can be caused by 100% focused belief. It's not a spoof or send up of religion but just looks at it from other angles. Very well written.

American History X is about the leader of a white supremacist gang in LA and how his actions effect his family and specifically his younger brother.

Don't really want to say too much more about either as I don't want to spoil them. I must say though, If you are very religious I wouldn't recommend Saved and if you are offended by violence don't watch American History X. Otherwise, 5 stars for both of them.

American History X is an absolute classic film as well Richard.
For me my fav movie is just too hard to pick.
The Usual Suspects has the best ending I've ever seen in a movie and is something I can watch again and again.
Batman Begins, the 1st Transformers movie, V for Vendetta and The Lord of the Rings movies I also can't get enough of.
Too many others to mention.
Have really rediscovered how good movies are now with the plasma and about 10g's worth of home theatre equipment!
Next on the list is to go blu-ray!

+1 to all the above, escaped the 39.9 degree heat watching this today. Well worth the little bit extra spent to see it in the Vmax cinema (roomier seats, more legroom, bigger screen). Pretty simple and predictable plot for a nearly three-hour movie but that is the only (minor) criticism I could make, the special effects more than make up for that

Will definitely get it on DVD when available but well worth seeing it in 3D at the movies (I almost went and saw it for a second time today as family came up from the country later in the day and we nearly went this evening.....)

As we all know I can be a bit blunt at times. I was actually going to ask if all this amazing eye-candy was a substitute for a story. If its 3 hours and engages you for that long, it sounds great. If you get ½ way through and start cleaning out your wallet or reading your coke can then, yeah...

Speaking of bad movies In todays Sydney Daily Telegraph there is an article about Michael Adams who has written a book about the worst ever movies titled Showgirls, Teenwolves and Astro Zombies. His 10 best worse movies and the year of release are:
1 Plan 9 From Outer Space 1959
2 Howling 3 The Marsupials 1987
3 Shark Attack 3 Megaladon 2002
4 Battlefield Earth 2001
5 Road House 1989
6 Boom! 1968
7 Breakin' 2 Electric Boogaloo 1983

Not being picky or anything, but Eisenberg wasn't in Superbad. I think you're thinking of Michael Cera. Seems to be a common mix up as they both play the exact same character pretty much. I was talking to someone who got halfway through Zombieland before they realised it wasn't Cera.

It's fecking awful. But there are some interesting cars in it - Jaguar XK120s, MGs - TC and TD. An Allard J2, a Bristol and a Porsche 550.

But stupid story, very ordinary acting and a really stupid story.

Yeah, I know I said it twice, but it looked like it was made for about 50cents. Even if the official budget (according to www.imdb.com) was a lot more.

I'm not sold on the whole 3D movie thing yet. It doesnt seem to work too well in acted/non-aninmated movies - it just seems to make things slightly more clearer + a little bit of added depth - but they dont really use special effects and make things come out of the screen at you like they did in the old blue+red glasses days.
The 3D cartoon/animations generally look better though. Things like Megamind etc look pretty cool in 3D.

I believe it was an 'afterthought' grease. I work in a cinema, and we find that a lot of the new 3D movies have been shot initially as 2d, but have been altered by the film companies to 3d to cash in on the current trend;) (especially since 3D movie tickets are dearer than 2d....)

While yes you are correct, many movies which are 3D, started out as 2D releases, but they were coverted to 3D in post production (for eg, Alice in wonderland, last air bender and clash of the titans) Tron on the other hand was mostly shot in 3D.

Tron was shot in 3D but only used it for the sequences in the grid. Like Wizard of OZ did with colour. The most effective use of the technology is when it makes you feel you are part of that world with subtle depth of field and it helps cover weak storylines as it does in Tron and Avatar.

There seems to be a rule now that all kids films now MUST be in 3D which along with the cheap quick conversion films like Clash of the Titans will keep pushing 3D into a gimmick relm and see it die like it did in the 50s and 80s. Already fatigue appears to be settling in with Narnia recently doing more business from it's 2D screenings then it's 3D ones. The studios and cinemas love it for the price premium and anti piracy it provides but it remains to be seen if it will keep getting people into seats in the long term

since they switched to a more 'through the window' use of 3d with depth rather than it all coming out toward u i've found 3d films a more reasonable fare.

But spending almost twice as much on a 3d film as 2d mmmmmm that isn't cool at all

Too much!, my and the GF saw Tron 3D in V MAX, and although we had 2 Screen Saver vouchers for a regular 2D movie, 3D is more expensive even if you bring your own 3D glasses and V Max is more expensive. I think it cost us $26....with screen savers!

There is no doubt that it costs alot to see a 3D film. Mind you the 2k digital projector system costs around $150000 to $200000 depending on your projector, 3D system, and if you need a silver screen installed so the average install can be paid off in the extra ticket price after around 50000 admits. Some cinemas have to pay this up front espicially the small ones, not small change!

I just got back from seeing the Tintin movie and have to say I really enjoyed it.
I loved the books as a kid and was worried they might not do it justice but IMO they
managed to do it right and there will definitely be more in the future...

saw TT3D on the weekend, not bad at all. Although I think the "3D" is a bit over rated for this flick, as it isn't shown that much (or at least you can't tell).

Conor Cummins is a lucky lucky man (actually anyone who finishes those races in one piece is probably very very lucky...)

really keen to see this one ....

Went and saw "Warrior" at the flicks yesterday and loved it;) Has Aussie Joel Edgerton in it and yes while the story line was a little predictable i loved it and so did the missus. Could be the fact its related to a sport that has been a big part of my life ;)

Saw '' Drive '' today and it was just okay.
Difficult to explain the movie but found it a little slow at times, however when there was action it was pretty gorey and worth watching.
The storyline is far from original.
