View Full Version : 12th Scale Aussie muscle
I know I have floated this before, but has there been any progress in the thinking of a 12th scale V8 race car..????
I originally thought that a current car would be the best, but after seeing the latest XD, I am changing my mind.
Anyway....:p

Classic or Current
We don't care "Build it and we will buy"
Last time we mooted this subject, Trevor said that we would be looking at about $500 to $600 for a car with a limited number at around 2000 pieces.
Biante, do a survey you have the website, carry out a poll, see how many of us are serious about buying these cars.
My preference would be a Skaife and Lowndes one of each to start, than the bathurst winner for each year and a classic thrown in for good measure, two cars per annum.
Please don't make us beg!!!

Corr, we dont want much, do we? I recon we should wait to get the 1;18 sorted before we start wanting 1;12. How long have people been waiting for the chargers?, look at the size of the lists for the moffat/brock/johnson collections. We still have heaps more to go. Dont want fingers in too many pots, or do we?

I agree with Martin
Lets stick to the scales we currantly have , im struggling to come up with the money for all the models I want now, let alone bringing out more scales.
Gee how big would the cabinet need to be ????

:D
Hello again,
My original thought would be that they make maybe two or three different cars ALL UP. That is it. Make them special.
Then we could afford to buy all three of them over five or so years. Minichamps did it with the 4 F1 cars.
Just my thoughts.

Mark,
Great idea....
How will we decide on the 3 cars we want??? We will never agree...
Also I agree with Westy, where the hell are we going to display them, I have 40 Biante 1/18 on shelves now, and am running out of room rapidly..

I think there would be very few cars that are important enough to enough people to make a 1:12 scale model possible.
It seems to be that the classics are heaps more popular than the current cars, and race cars seems more popular than road cars. So it looks like it pretty much would have to be a classic race car.
The car that springs to my mind all of the time is the 1979 Bathurst winning Holden Dealer Team A9X Torana of Peter Brock and Jim Richards. Great looking car, unbeatable on the day, and arguably Australias most popular driver ever.
Have a look at Asutralian Muscle car magazine for pics of the real car.
Althought I would be sad if it were something like the A9X, as I feel that there have been better iconic cars, I would still buy it.
If the run is limited enough and the quality is good enough, that would be all I need for any Australian car. Such things as Tabac logos would be able to be used, the detail could be great.
As I said, don't make to many of them. If we don't have a choice, we will buy them.

My twobobs worth
Yes they would be great BUT!!!!!!
1. Only one every 12 to 24 months.
2. They could be desided by a pole taken on this forum, that way they would be what the majority want.
3. A firm availiability date so we can buget for them, & enlargen the cabinet.
4. They would make a brillent centre piece.
5. There are still alot of 1:18 that still could be made and only so many dollars available.
Thats my twobobs worth ........coz I want them all ..............but
Gotta go, can hear the minister of finace and war, shes just discovered a different (new) model on the shelf.

Hey Frosty,
Mate, just to help you out. If youre running out of room, just lob a couple this way. Im still designing my cabinet so I dont mind making allowances for extra cars, hell, i'll even pay for the extra wood... you know, just to help a fellow collector out.

Martin,
Thanks for your thoughts.....
I will keep buying Biante and just add additional glass shelves.. When it's full, I will have to sweet talk "she who must be obeyed" for another bookcase.

I would like to see a 1/12 aussie car. If Biante just did the cars that were, the car of there time. Like the XY GTHO would be great.
I would prefer road cars and not race versions.

For our customers on the website, there will be a 1:12th road car next year.
There will be 2000 pieces only made, retailing for $660.00 each.
That, believe it or not, just covers costs.
Do NOT ask me what it is, because the real car does not exist yet, but is sensational!!
And, because one car cannot be a Ford AND a Holden, the following year we will do the same thing for the other brand.
NUFF SAID!!

Admin,
Why will they only be available to web site customers and not the customers who prefer to buy from there model car retailer??
perry

v8coupe, it propably has something to do with the fact that if Biante is 'just covering costs' at $660 each, then for a retailer to buy one, and then put 25-35% markup on top, would make it rediculously priced.
Biante cant price it considerably lower than their retailers, as thats a conflict of interest for their distribution network. And for the retailers to make enough money to warrant having one on the shelf, the final price will be around $850-950.
Therefore, the website price will have to match that, which puts it so much further out of the budget of 99% of people.
Ive collected every single biante 1:18 model except for two, so i consider myself a keen collector, but there is no way i will pay $660+ for a 1:12 model car...
All I can say, is bring it on.
One every two years would be more affordable, but I am keen.
Thankyou.

I agree. Bring it on. If it is cool, I will buy it.
Did anyone notice that Admin said "The real car does not exist yet" ?
This suggests it is going to be a current car rather than one of the older classics, so that maybe reduces the speculation on whether they would do a GTHO or Torana.
I guess the next question is what are our Aussie car manufacturers working on for future release? I just visited the Ford Aus website and they are making a bit of hype about the new falcon that is coming, however, you can't get any actual details about it yet. You can register with them to be kept in the loop as to what is happening with it though, so maybe this will help for anyone trying to guess.
Maybe the return of the Falcon Coupe?

If its a car that doesnt exist it could still be an AU, it may just be a bathurst/V8 supercar WINNER..
Sorry...
Maybe we should start a book, I'll put $10 on a HSV of some discription, I have read that they are looking at opening the gap of the look from the "base" cars, sort of like the AMG Mercedes. I reckon a GTS coupe with some wild body kit.
Bangkok Bob

As Admin says that it will be a "road car", I'm guessing not a V8 Supercar. A HSV is definitely possible though.
I also have registered on the Ford website for the unveiling of the Falcon. My guess for the 1:12 car is the all new Falcon GTHO. In his interview in Mark Oastlers new magazine, Geoff Polites sort of gave us a hint even though it was a confirm nor deny sort of reply that Ford could be bringing back the mighty GT and a limited number of the even mighter GTHO. So this model could be like the Monaro with Biante making a model before the actual car is released, and the reason Admin can't tell us is because of contractual and privacy matters with Ford. Even if I am wrong you can call me a dreamer, because like so many I can't wait for the return of the Holden conquering GTHO.

I'm with you Dave...bring on the new GTHO (Ford and subsequent Biante).
I also agree that it is likely Biante have an agreement with a manufacturer (whether it be Ford, Holden or HSV) to produce a model of a car yet to come, but, like with the monaro, are required to honour a privacy agreement.
Yep, a new Ford GT would definitely be cool (in both real and model form).

Holy crap, not another GTHO...
I suppose it would be pretty fitting considering that the first 1:18 aussie model was a GTHO.... Whatever it is, just imagine some of the prices a coupla years down the track...

Hey admin,
Would there be any possibility of telling us whether it will be a ford or a holden released first as i have a limited budget and it would help knowing if i have 1 or 2 years to save. (or negotiate borrowing).
i think a 1:12 48-215 (FX) would be fitting as the first, and the equivalent ford as the first two cars, but by now pre-production would already be far underway. i think a classic would be a far better option as there is already public opinion to go by to assess the popularity of a model, where as with a new model, nobody knows how the public will react.
also as i have no credit card, is there a way of ordering it like c.o.d or something?

If this is going to be a members/website only issue , what about some rego papers to go with the car for the buyer. I know First Gear in the US have done this with one of their recent releases. I think it is a nice addition.
What do other think. (go easy hehe)
