Just curious to know how deep all you other Biante collectors are ?
Do you go for the whole lot or stick to themes ?

I have about 85 I guess at the moment and still chasing , but in the near future I will have to cull some.

Okay, in my case, I guess i have succumbed to addiction quickly. Like Crack it has been an instant addiction.

I got my first 1/18 Biante at the GMC 400 last year (John Goss XY). After that, I didn't really buy many, as my job took me to Bangkok, which for a short time prevented me from buying any more until I worked out an arrangement with my brother for models to be delivered to him (the cool ones he ends up displaying with his models until my return). Anyway, in November I got the Yellow XU1 shortly followed by the Brock A9X.

After Christmas, things got really out of hand and I have purchased the Moffat XB, Chrome Yellow SLR5000, Lowndes Green Eyed Monster, Grice/Percy VL Bathurst Winner, Vermillion Fire XY GTHO, Moffat Federation Insurance XC, DJR 1999 Bathurst Car and the Tru Blu Falcon (all 1/18 of course). This was a bit of a budget breaker, but totally worth it.

I am primarily a Ford fan, however, also owned many Holden's in my younger days, and it is this that makes me want to collect some of them. I reckon the collection will look good with cars that were competing from a particular era (bring on the E49 Charger).

As far as Themes go, I have considered that this might become necessary and think I will primarily stick to Fords, collecting some of the special holdens from the 60's and 70's (like the upcoming HT Monaro's). Basically, I will probably not buy any more "Race" holdens, only sticking to Road cars (although I must admit a Brock VC Commodore would probably tempt me). I guess the closest to any Theme is that I will be sticking to mostly 60's-70's cars, with some from the 80's. Other than a couple of the V8 Supercars that I already own, I will probably not persist in buying them.

I'm a fairly new collector, but my collection is growing fast and Yeah, I guess the Theme for me is my own Nostalgia.

I dont realy have a nostralgic link as we came from africa and my family has never realy followed motor sports (Im the youngest). I have always liked models of all sorts and as I got older I began to take an intrest in motor racing, bathurst has always caught my imagination because of the rawness and unpredictability of it all. Even the modern version with the fast taxis still has a rawness about it, in the last hour anything can happen and the cars sound and look a bit more second hand than 5 hours before. I have 12 biante supplied models and these are only race cars and will stick to that as I have a few interests and all seem to cost money. I have only been getting biante models for about 18 months now but I cant see it stopping any time soon. I prefer older cars but have a few supercars as they were an entry point for me. Im more of a holden man but you cant turn your back on classics so if it fits the bill, ill bug the wife for it. I hope like hell they make the perkins ingall car that won from a lap down in 1995. I also have some CC holdens and trax holdens.

Quite simple really - since I was a little boy, I've always loved cars. As I grew older, I became interested in anything with an engine and four wheels. Then I got into motorsport in 1994, when Lowndes did that amazing overtaking manuveour on Bowe at Mountain Straight, and became and instant fan of Lowndesy. Been follwing closely ever since, and since Biante started making the models, it was no surprise I started collecting. Hey, these models ARE absolutely fanstastic! It's as close to owning the real things as it can get! But as Biante started releasing more and more I had to limit my collection. Basically now, I collect only touring cars, with the exception of the GTS coupe, and all touring cars 1:43 scale. As for 1:18, I don't have a theme. Just which ever ones are particularly pretty or well made or memorable, like the XW 64e, XD tru Blu, Green eyed monster, Lowndes's Last HRT bathurst drive VT, Faulkner VT, HRT twin pack etc!!

I have been a collector for a few years now (in 1:18) and I bought all the biante models I could get my hands on. However now that I have them displayed in my cabinet, space is at a premium, so I had to make a decision, a new cabinet, or prune the collection. I decided to collect just the road cars (2 colours of each model) and sell my race cars. The reasons for this were that the race cars were more expensive and they weren't a true representation of the race car because of tobacco sponsorship (stupid government laws). I also collect the pre 80's cars as I think they have a better shape and you don't see many good ones out on the roads these days. I can see the newer cars everyday out on the roads. No preference to Holdens or Fords, however are looking forward to the Chargers.

I have every standard issue Classic Carlectable 1/43 Ford, numerous (and growing) Biante collection 1/18 and 1/43.

I've been collecting for about 4 years, i'm a Holden fan, but do have a few Fords amongst my collection both in 1/43 & 1/18, i try to collect the muscle cars of Australia from the 70's & 80's but also the current V8 supercars seem to be the majority amongst my collection.
Would like to expand my collection but 2 kids & mortgage come 1st:)

I've been collecting for about 5 years. I only heard about Biante after they released their 4th car (Moffat's 65E).
I am collecting the Moffat, Brock and Johnson collections, also all the Lowndes and Skaife cars. I have 40 1/18 Biante and 10 1/43 Biante to date.

In my youth, I owned an XB GT Coupe and prior to that a LC GTR XU-1. I have always been interested in motor racing. My first 'idol' was Allan Moffat. I am not a diehard Ford or Holden fan but I tend to follow drivers at present it's Lowndesy and Skaifey.

All my models have been taken out of their boxes and are proudly displayed on bookcases covered by clear persplex (to keep out the dust). I get a 'warm fuzzy feeling' when staring at them, they bring back a heap of memories..

Like most I have been a motor racing fan all my 38yrs. I grew up mostly with speedway with my father racing, but followed all forms of motor racing.
As a kid I used to build plastic kits and as I got older I discovered diecast.
I have been collecting for about 12yrs I started slowly with mostly 1/18 road cars and have built my collection up.
About 100 1/18 and about 50 1/43
Exoto,Biante,Minichamps and ERTL covers most of my collection, excpt the 1/43 they are all Trax,Onyx and some CC.
I pretty much only collect race cars now, no preferance Ford,Holden,F1,Indy, etc.
They are all on display in a extreamly large timber cabinet.
Morgage,Wife and Kids keeps me from spending more.

:) I started with Trax Years ago I started collecting Biante 1:43 a couple of years ago (because of the price) but know I've started on the 1:18 I'ts costing me a fortune. So what I have done is limited myself to pre 1980 (these cars are cool) and still it's expensive so I started a Moffat vs Brock collection I have the Brock XU-1 and beside it I have The Yellow Factory XU-1, then I got the Moffat GTHO and I put the XY GTHO Vermilian fire nest to that. I have got the SLR 'L34', the XB GT, the Brutt 33, and the Cobra's. I am eagely waiting for the XW candy apple red, Brock GTS Monaro and the Moffat XD. This has made my desisions on what to buy very simple.

My collection started a different way. I began by building 1:24 kits about 20 yrs ago. Have still got about 70 (of the best that I've kept), with another 20 or so still unbuilt in the cupboard (must get to them, they've been there for 7 yrs, since the first sprog arrived!).

Couldn't get Aussie models, except 'hybrids' like Tamiya Sierras and Nissan GTR, with aftermarket decal kits (got DJ Sierra, with wheel kit and RHD dash, and ANZ Allan Moffat). Then I discovered the Trax 'Superscales', since the 1:43 didn't have the detail I wanted. Got the XY (TruBlu), HK Monaro (Silver Mink), and 2 tone green FJ. But once I discovered the Biantes (first one I saw was on holidays on Gold Coast Qld, red XY for sale at $500- during Indy week) I was blown away.

Now have some 16, namely all Allan Moffat (except #1 - DAMN!), all DJ collection, Bathurst VT (Bargs/Tander), red SLR, yellow XY GTHO, Bullitt 'Stang and XKSS Jag. Mostly Fords, but I just love 'em all!

I started collecting in 2001. It all started with a 1:18 VL Walkinshaw Commodore. My girlfriend had collected a couple of 1:43 skaife cars as well. Then I just started gradually buying a couple more as they came out. Then I found sold.com.au and went mad!!! I started frequenting www.biante.com.au as well of course, and a few other model sites.

I have about 8 1:18 cars, 1 custom police, 4 HSV's, 1 Monaro & 2 US Chevrolet Police cruisers. Numerous 1:43 cars as well and even a few hot wheels and matchbox ones too!

My theme is GM / Holden & the same in Police formula. I need another display cabinet.

http://www.roity.com/revitup/mcc

I guess I'm a bit like 'XR8' but with Holden! I have clothes, hats, model cars, posters, cards, pictures... oh, and of course my dearly beloved 2000 model black SS. I've gone mad on that too and fitted a Monaro face with triple display dash cluster and Monaro tail lights (removed VT boot piece and replaced with plain VX boot piece). I have planned to get Monaro head lights and want to replace some interior bits and pieces to spice up the 'old VT. Tell you though, fuel disappears fast under the right foot and burns quick in those 5.7L V8's! (average anywhere from 15 - 20L/100km!!)

Regards,
Dave

PS. And there's nothing wrong with the Ford's! Each to there own!

How addicted? Well a collectorholic now.
I used to collect those $30 1/18 models when I was back in school. Bought a few and then just stopped.
I started collecting around half way though yr 2000. I went in to a games world shop and saw on display a green lj gtr xu1 and couldn't believe my eyes. Finally a 1/18 aussie car. I haven't collected a model for ages and didn't know much about model cars or there prices. The price was at first a shock to me, and I went home and thought about it. After a while I went back, looked at the model, the detail was excellent, a desided to buy it.

I now collect only 1/18
Every holden, lowndes ford, the 1 skyline, every ford road car (just missing the first 3).
So being only 23 yr. I guess I am going to have heaps in the future. It is definately an addition that I have.

I collect because I like the car, not the price.
Price only comes in, when I am missing a model that has gone up in price. Unfortunately I am missing the dearest of them all.
Once you find a good retailer, it makes collecting these Biante's just a little easier.

I just think of it this way. It is much cheaper to collect models than the real ones. They take up less room, and cost no more once you have bought them, except those smoking decals we have to buy separately.

Good thread!!!! Maybe we should start an "anonymous collectors"
group for addicts...
Its nice to hear the stories of the others ...how we all came to collecting etc.My dad took me to my first race in 1973..when i was 3.It was the first oldtimer meeting at the Nürburgring and i m sure that it was the place where i got infected with the race virus.
We went to races together for about 15 years..Nürburgring ,Hockenheim ,and a lot of other tracks that were close enough to reach. So i started to collect racing cars when i was a little pooper...had a break when i was about 17 or 18..(girls girls girls...) and started again after i was married for about 1 year(hehehe...say nothing!!) 3 Years ago my dad died and i found all the old pics and slides he took at races from the early 60s to the mid 70s.Also the race programs of all races he has ever been ...about 60 pieces!!!He drove motorcycle races in the 50 s and i found heaps of accessoires from that area too..his helmet..etc...I started to find out who the cars and drivers on the slides were and got deeper into racing every day....bought books for identifying the cars ...other slides and fotographies and im trying to get models from the cars he took the pictures of.Alot of work..but its worth it...i love doing that and i get all excited when i can identify a car and its driver.
Well..my addiction...i first realized that i am addicted when i tried to reach the cellar with a new model before my wife saw it:D
Times changed a bit..im divorced now but i ll marry again march next year in Geelong (the most wonderful woman on earth btw.)
She has 2 kids and they will always be first...which means i wont be able to spend much money on model cars . A tragedy because of the great models coming up in future..but well..as soon as the boys are ready to go racing...

Enough to get in the Sh!t for buying the Dicky XD and Bullitt Mustang last week. My first Model was last year a CC RAT AU Falcon. It is the only CC in my collection. I have all the DJ collection to date. Moffat XB, Rat AU, a couple a Yank Mustangs, 3 x 1/18 XY GTHO's and 4 x 1/43 XY GTHO's. A small collection I am sure but growing each day.

Luckily i have the complete Ford collection (except the Cloundes cars, can't bring myself to ever consider him a Ford driver).
I started with the first Bianti falcon, thought i was going to buy every thing they were going to release but when they started pumping out all those crapydores i dicided to stick wiyh just the quallity stuff so i offloaded the 4 Lj Toranas i had.
I also have an odd collection of other stuff, all 1/18 scale, plus all the DJR CC's.

Good question, I started collecting about 18months or so ago with my first buy's being CC's 1/18scale, then bought my first Biante/Autoart car, Moffats racing cobra. I havn't looked back since. Have got the 1/43 XY GT collection, Dick Johnson Collection so far, The Moffat Mustang, The moffat collection so far (except the 64E) but have picked up the 65e recently for $400 (Bargain), also have both Lowndes Falcon all being 1/18 scale. I also have a few odd bods in ford. You might have guessed l like Fords. Would like to get more but at the end of the day you have to live don't you.

i believe my addiction is under control, but then that's what most addicts say! i've only got 6 models; it began when i saw the 1:18 xc cobra road car in unique cars when the model was released. i pestered the other half long and hard and 'santa' delivered it that xmas. as an absolutely unashamed xa-xc fan, i've set myself a strict regimen of only 1:18 coupes, in the interest of trying to keep some of the folding stuff in the wallet.

I started last year when the DJR Johnsin Johnson AU was released, A fellow ford nut at work convinced me to buy it so I did, The day I removed that car from the box I was Hooked, At first I thought just the Johnson Collection would do, but i started doing some homework and looking at some of the cars and decided that the Moffat collection wouldent hurt to much either, I luckily found all the earlier released Moffat cars from 1 older collector who was happy to pass them on as long as i promised to keep them and not just sel them, i got them all at a realy good price. Problem was now the backlog was filled new models cant come fast enough, then came Lowndes first Falcon and on goes ther storey from there, So I have now expanded to collecting all Ford race cars, although i couldnt help buying the vermillion fire XY.

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH so many cars!!!!......so little money!!!

About 1986 I saw a 1/43 kit built F1 Lola Larrousse at a shop in Adelaide and I was hooked.
So I started collecting all the F1 World Champion's cars in kits and started to perfect the art of modelling.
I have built some superb Tameo kits not to mention the latest Schumacher Ferarri F2001 Italian 'black nose'. I have all the Minichamps W/C releases so far except for the cars I have built which I have to say are much more precise. (tobacco sponsors and all!) and a about 10 books on F1 history.
I first heard of Biante about the time the GTHO series was launched but was put off due to the cost. How ever, once the Bathurst series started to take shape, it seemed so much more appropriate to collect Australian Bathurst models. As much as investment for the future ( they will only be sold over my dead body!!!) as for their history.
Throw in a few HSV road cars, some C.Cs and a couple of dozen or so Trax cars 1/43 & 1/24 and hey presto there is a 110 car collection.
Today I received my Trax order form for the new 1/24 E38 Charger and tomorrow I start work on the missus to covince her they will be worth a fortune in a few years.
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH will it ever end!!!!!!

A real problem!!

Two years ago, Bathurst 1999, I got my hands on my first di-cast race cars. A Trax 1;43 Moffat twin set. I once had a road going replica of this car back in my youth. I sold it when I got married 22 years ago to buy a house. My wife said at the time "one day, when we could afford it I could get another". After 19 years this was the closest I came to it. Start out soft.

Soon after followed the 1:18 Moffat XY. Now I was getting in to the hard stuff. A few days later on a brousing trip through a local store I found a 1:43 V8 Supercar. Had to have it.

Pretty soon I found myself building a cabinet to put them in and I started to spiral down rapidly. I keep buying rare examples of Australin touing car history. Finding new reasons to buy a model. "I only collect Fords!! I just need Bathurst as well. Yes I know there Commadore's but Lowndsies a champ and he drives a Ford now". They just keep comming!!

Soon I dedicated a room for my collection, built more cabinets, added special lights, books, videos, photo's, team shirts, programs, hats, etc, etc etc, etc.

Did I have a problem? I didnt think so. Then I discovered this web site and started spending hours every day reading the chat and finding out I wasn't alone. I'm not a freak.

But sadly my wife thinks it is a problem. I dont talk to her any more. I dont do anything for her any more, and I never think about her.

So i thought long and hard and tonight I came up with a soloution

I TOLD HER TO GO. RANG A CAB FOR HER AND GAVE HER THE FARE IN CASE SHE HAS NO MONEY.

I have turned on the lights, taken a good look at my collection and now wonder wich room to fill next

I started like most people making a heap of 1:24 model cars, and still have a lot of my toy cars from when I was a boy, Including the Days of Thunder NASCAR’s, till I was about 16.

Then I seen the red 1:18 XY broacher in a shop window, so I placed an order “didn’t know what I was getting into.
To date, I have 19 classic 1:18 models, 14 AUTOart 1:18 models the Moffat Mustang “with coke decals a few other 1:18 Models including CC, Kyosho & Burago, just got a 1:43 AUTOart red LJ Torana XU-1 “will be getting a few more…… Also have a 1:10 Tamiya r/c car with a few different bodies.
I blame my older brothers & Sister’s “Tomboys for this hobby, grew up a Holden man, but likewise, respect the Fords. So with “Ford vs Holden brigade - had to arrive eventually (bound to start a flame war) it’s always been like that, always will be, and its great hearing the fans at the track support there favourite cars & drivers, roity there not idiots, there fans collectors and friends, its all in fun and sorry if it offends you.

I love collecting them, but would not let them between me and the love of my life, she helps me with the models I buy, and her opinions count. “I Love you Bubbie yes I know that’s a suckie suckie but who helps me out when I can’t afford to buy a Model.
Hey Moffat Fan as long as you’re happy that's the main thing.

Don’t think my collecting will ever end……. “I collect the Models I like

Cheers.

hi all im new to this but after reading this thread there are many people out their like me and love ccollecting diecast model cars. Yes i am addicted, started in 5 / 6 years ago, my theme/s is simple, Brock / HDT/HRT. I have with the help of my local model shop about 80 1:43 scale different makes of the above theme and looking to add more each day [just for the record the 1:43 APX Torana's "78 &'79 plus the Commodore's of the 80's my favorites] as well i think i have all the 1:18 scale Biante HRT cars and Brock race cars, and all the 1:18 Biante Holden/ HSV road cars. As i said earlier my local model shop has helped me heaps, including specially made display cases to suit my modells and themes so i can display them for all to see [but not touch]. Add to this my collection of motor racing tapes.........700, collection of motorsport magazines........ some since '74, all the Great race books, and Autocourse since '79 and many framed posters / prints / paintings of motor racing....................i'd better go see a doctor i'm not well this getting out of hand...........then again on the way i will stop at my local model shop and see what they have, that will make me feel better.

What can i say I enjoy motor racing.

Have fun collecting all.

Roity,
Did my tag make any mention of Holdens?

My Comments were made about a few small minded people whom jump on a bandwagon and then have made comments about Ford crap.

If you can find any nasty comments about Holdens in here that I have made, please feel free to point them out to me.

I am looking forward to the 79 Brock A9X to add to mostly Ford collection and Hope to find a 1/18 white A9X somewhere at a good price to add to my collection as well. I also think that the early Brock VB, VC & VH commodores will find a place in my collection.

As I said, find where I have made nasty comments towards holden and have tried to start a flame war.

Forget about it. If that's the sign off you want, fine. Your obviously a Ford fan with the collection of Ford vehicles... and as all motorsport fans know that HRT = Holden Racing Team..

How about I sign off with "I wanna be another FTE tosser", you going to tell me there's no relation with Ford in that one?

But anyway, fair enough, no need to get hot under the collar... both "sides of the fence" seem to bag eachother in one form or another but I'm not one of those Ford bagging Holden people. That's why I got annoyed.. The addition of crapydores by another post was what started getting me annoyed. I've also seen the FOMOCO nick name used on another forum and the posting made on that other forum was a very abusive one regarding the GenIII V8 engine. Could be a different guy for all I know, but once I saw the name FOMOCO I just saw red.. And the abuse posting was probably retaliation to someone bagging Ford maybe...

Anyway, each to there own! Good luck with your collection, and everyone, keep an eye on the wallet!!!

Well, have a nice day.

That other Forum you visit would not be at conrod. As for FTE tosser there are many of them out there as well.

I am sure you are not one of those people that Bag the other side and for that I applogize to you. The comment was meant for certain others.

HRT deserve the what they have. They have set a high standard to which others are failing to follow.

Enjoy your models and racing as well.

In my collection I currently have only 9 cars (All Biante).

Of these 5 are road cars & 3 are race cars.

When the first Track Red XY was released I thought that this is great & wanted to collect all of the models.
The first couple of releases were great but then too many were being released, and I didnt like all the models so I got only the cars that I liked.

Trouble is that I am not made of money and have other things to spend it on, so the rest of the models have been given to me by my missus who doesn't want me to spend my money on the cars, so she gets them as a combined Xmas & Birthday Present.
Sounds fair hey.

I am now trying to sell/swap the race cars so that I can get the other cars that I couldnt afford at the time.

Biante models are the most SUPERIOR models I have ever seen.
They are the only brand of cars in my collection.

I hope that they have many more great cars to come, they dont release too many at the same time and keep the detail as high as they have for this long.

Bring on the Chargers.

I have 11 1:18 carsand about 12 1:43 scale cars. Most of my 1:18 cars are cheaper brands as I am only 14 but I have a few Skaife cars like the 07 VE and an 04 car in 1:18. I am currently waiting for my birthday (which is in may) to get a display cabinet. Until I get get a job, I am limited to about 3 or 4 1:18 cars per year.

What brands do you collect besides Biante and CC.

i am also a young collector, 14 yrs of age but i only collect CC and Biante 1:18s. I mainly collect the aussie road cars from the 70s as well as a few race cars and late model v8s such as hsv's and fpv's. here's a list of what i have so far all in 1:18:

Biante XY GTHO yellow ochre
Biante XW GTHO starlight blue
Biante XR GT gold
CC XA GTHO moffat
CC Charger E49 Hot mustard
Biante HK GTS 327 silver mink
Biante HT GTS 350 monza blue
Biante HQ GTS coupe tangerine
CC HQ SS lettuce green
Biante Torana A9X Sedan ultra blue
Biante HSV GTS VT2 sting red
CC FPV GT MK2 white with blue stripes.

and there's plenty more to come as i recently got a nice cabinet in which i display my cars.

That is a very nice collection for a 23 year old. Well done;)

About 33% of them. I don't have the room to display them all though my Son & I get them out & have a good PLAY with them ALL at 1 time in the year.:)

Some Forum users have seen my displays.

I have Auto Art (they're not so cheap), Maisto, Burago, Hot Wheels and some more that I forgot the brand name. Most of them only cost 40-100 dollars but they still look good.

Use to be very addicted when I first started back in 2001 or so. Always looking around for models that I had missed on first release and hunting them down, while trying to stick to a theme, although the theme is heavily Bathurst cars it does vary quite a bit.

Glad I started when I did because looking at the price of some of the models now it is crazy!!! Bathurst winners, Brock cars and some muscle cars fetch/ask high prices on the second hand market which I would certainly baulk at if I had to buy them now.

just recently moved into the more expensive gear and picked up a 1:18 1991 skaife/richards skyline for $205 about a year back..seems to have been a good buy!

also recently picked up a 1:24 trax HG350 monaro in lina mint, as the old man had one of these new for his first car...was stoked that this model was available!

yesterday ordered an exact-detail 67 GT350 which should arrive in a few days

I don't think the number of models, nor how quickly you buy them has anything to do with whether you are addicted or not...

Addiction is more about the inability to not buy a model. I have well over 500 models, but have walked away from many that would finish collections and not regretted it afterwards.

An alcoholic will put alcohol before all else, a gambling addict will put gambling first, a drug user will put drugs first.

I don't put models ahead of much!

Geez Leigh, lighten up man! I don't put models ahead of everything else either but I love to get them. I don't think the word addicted was used for it's proper meaning. Maybe it should be How deep into it are you, instead. :)

Leigh,

I think you need to take a chill pill. Lighten up a bit, spend some time with your Family & have a drink (or whatever you do, to lighten up). After all, its just a Thread on a Forum

I am definately not, in the true sense of the word, addicted however, its just another thread, someplace to put a description of my collection.

Cheers

Crikey some people take things far too seriously!

Dig deeper and somebody will be able to turn up a 10 year old thread...then I'll have a real go at stirring the pot LOL Especially when there are other newer threads on the same topic that are much better;)

Thankfully school goes back across the rest of Australia today and we can stop the ancient rehashs...

Think about it:)
