The Bathurst collection has been the threads lately for a couple of reasons but I thought I would dedicate a thread entirely to its existence for comments, input, feedback and of course criticism.
Bathurst is our premier race, held once a year with only one winner, is it not fitting then that this race and the winner be remembered each year with a model equally as fitting.
I think the whole Bathurst collection series needs a re-think (only an opinion), What do the rest of you guys think?
As I have said in the other thread, I am putting my proposal forward for what I as a collector of fine Models and MotorSport memorabilia would like to see and be able to purchase each year.
My Suggestions for the “Bathurst Winners Collection
1. That it have its own special packaging not the standard window face packaging. Make them in the better quality sealed boxes with graphics inside the lid (ie like the GMP cars and the HRT 4 car set).
2. Set the release numbers for 2 years in advance so everyone knows what to expect and can place orders with they favourite shop.
3. Release the current year winner and one retro (Past Classic) winner each year.
4. Release them in 1/18th and 1/43rd
5. Don’t release the car in any other configuration unless it is a team edition such as the HRT twin set.
6. Release the car within 6 months of the race.
All of the above should make the collection something very special that everyone will wait each year for with baited breath.
Make it a collection that I can start and my sons can continue in the future for as long as the race is run or the costs become prohibitive.
Having said all that I now ponder the thought what if the winner is a non Biante licensed car. Maybe the event organisers need to be involved with this one and a special license agreement for the Manufacture and Distribution of the model needs to be in place. Imagine that, a Perkins, Seton or Stone Brothers, Biante one off Model for the “Bathurst Winners Collection.
In the words of Bruce Mc Aveny it would be “SPECIAL

I agree that as far as Aussie Cars go the BATHUST WINNING cars are an important part of Australian race history. I hope Biante manage to get the rights and release the full set of Bathurst Winners. I have narrowed my collection down to the Bathurst race cars, winners and contendors. It would be nice if the Winners series had special boxing with pics of the actual race etc inside that could be viewed from the window in the box.

The special packaging would be nice, but one the model is in the cabinet the Bathurst winner will look much like the other models.
What if the Bathurst winner model was 'post-race' instead of 'pre-race'. As some of you may have seen, Mattel have started to release some of their Ferrari Sportscar models covered in dust and dirt. Biante could do the same with Bathurst winners, spraying them to give a just raced look together with the odd damaged headlight or dent in the door to make these models stand out from the regular releases.

like I said before, nice suggestion glenn. I just don't like number 5, which says "Don’t release the car in any other configuration unless it is a team edition such as the HRT twin set. "
i reckon it shouldn't be releases in any other configuration FULLSTOP. not even HRT. isn't this the problem we're having now with the 2001 twin pack?

Yeah, It is Ivan but the reality is that the HRT twin pack regardless of the cars in it is a special one. I went on a bit earlier in the month about the release of the single car but that was mainly due to the preception that the twin pack was the "Bathurst Winners Collection", it is'nt, its the HRT Team Edition twin pack.
What Iam trying to provoke here is interest in a very special packaging dedicated to the Race and the Winner.
To say that in the cabinet it will look like the others, how can it when it will be packaged in a box that is so different to all the others released for the year the car will have different logo's and as I said in the original thread it may even be a car that you would not normally collect due to it being licensed to a rival manufacturer. The packaging will make it different.
I hope Biante, add their views and input to this thread as I would like to hear what the possiblities really are!

So many rules, so many regulations!
Personally I don't think the extra cost in producing special boxes (which end up in the cupboard in my case anyway) for the "Bathurst Winners Collection" is worth it.
If Biante decide to bring out a model seperately as well as in a twin pack, as long as we know about it, and I have found it rather easy to find out, then who cares? If you want the single, buy it, if you want the twin, but it.
I'm sure as each body style is made, there will be plans to produce a Bathurst Winning car if there was one. Patience is the key here guys.
We have seen the Sierra and VR/VS Commodore body styles are in the final stages of production so I'm sure we will get some Bathurst Winners out of them, and if that means two or three Bathurst Winners in a year then that's fine with me.
You have to remember that when YOU want to make the rules, they are those that suit yourself, not those that suit the majority of collectors who all have different priorities.
After years of not having any decent Australian race cars on the market, it is nice to now have someone who is producing them, and who from what I have seen is doing a pretty good job so far.
I also personally think that some of you guy's take all this stuff way too seriously, getting worried about little details that really, in the overall scheme of things matter very little.
I also get the feeling that some people are worried more about the economic success of their collections rather than collecting for the enjoyment of having these great models. If you want to make money, buy shares and property, and leave the collecting to those who have a genuine love for it :)

I am with you, I also agree with the 1/43 scale. Needs to be more models made in the scale. I would like to see the DJR, Brock, and Moffat collections made in this scale.

Great ideas... I am with Dazz about the special packaging - it ends up in the cupboard!
I think the idea of "post race" models is great! I would love to see the models with a few dents and and mud splattered up the sides, other teams paint smeared over the rear bumper or down the side from fighting the position on the track etc... These would really look great next to the season cars or even the presentation cars that get released.
I agree with all points from AussieCollectors comments (except #1) even number 5 - because if that team releases a twin pack of the bathurst cars and one of them happens to be the winner then that's a bonus and it should be classified as part of the Bathurst Winners.
I would love to be able to pass the Bathurst Winners / Bathurst Collections down to my son so that he can grow the collection as the years roll on.

It's all about collecting great cars!
I agree,I'd rather buy the Johnson,Brock and Moffat collections in 1/43.I only get 1/18 when the model isn't in 1/43 like I buy videos if it's not on DVD.For all bathurst champ models future and present need to be done in both scales.Plus I reckon that morewinners before the race became 1000km should be done like the Gibson/Firth 67,Holden/Altonen 66 mini, the cortina champs and the 68-69 Monaro winners(ordinary road versions already avalible in 1/43).And yes I would like to see some more variety in the the brock, moffat, johnson collections like a brock F2,rallycross torana or original Austin A30,Moffat Capri,Pontiac or 88 bathurst sierra and nearly got #5,or the Torana he finished 3rd in the Sandown 400 in and for the Johnson the NASCAR he raced in the States, the torana in which he was brocks teammate once and the Sierra he raced at Silverstone against the worlds best Sierra teams(Rouse,Eccomberger etc) and nearly won.
I'd also like to see some of the 2L 1000 champs like the Brabs BMW,Richo/Rydell Volvo or even the Richo jnr/Neal 2nd place Nissan, the Morris BMW that won the bathurst 500 or even Jamie Brocks Future Tourer 300 car!!!

I agree with the "Bathurst Winners" collection, i only collect in 1:18 scale but im sure the 1:43 guys would like them too. If my memory and information is correct it would only be 41 cars in total dating back to 1963 when Harry Firth & Bob Jane raced there Ford Cortina GT. I say bring on the classic race cars and new alike in a bathurst winners series.

There is a collector here in Perth that has (made) all bathurst winners in 1/43 and what an inpressive sight this one is.
This person has been doing this for a lot of years and has proven that it is/has been possible to get this together without Biante even excisting
he has done lots of work and even had these cars on display last year at the modelexpo with every one lined up in a yearly configuration
not many people took any notice as far as I could detect and it was almost next to the Biante display!
This was a shame in my book ,as it seems that this is a hot topic
but when it is in front of the general publik without it being loudly announced ,it does not seemed to be noticed.

He used all sorts of model makers cars and had(still is) decals made as to be able to make the cars plus gets wheels and all sorts of other bits made ,To me they are looking very authentic
this gentleman is almost always on the swapmarkets in the modelcarswaps and has a lot of 1/43 australian cars for sale and also makes them to order.
there are some very clever people about that have been doing some very clever stuff .
there are some very exclusive models out and about and for a lot
of years
I have seen some yellow car that was made in only a serie of 5
there is also the diorama made of the famous rollover over the fence and so on.

on page 108 - 109 shows a 1/43 Bill Brown 1971 63E GT HO Falcon. Made by FM Models.
Says only 25 made at $490. Has the car on the road, and next to it, the version after the crash, including the fence. On a timber base and with a perspex cover.

If packaged correctly as is the HRT 4 car set, you would never take it out of the box.
Have you ever seen the Pink Pig Can Am or any of the GMP car sets or even the Senna 41 years special edition.
No one in their right mind would remove the car from the box, "sorry if I sound a little heavy" but as I collect more than just Aussie V8's I thought that this type of Product that has been embraced by F1 and CanAm collectors my appeal to Aussie Collectors.
It would appear some think maybe not.
Those who do agree what about 1/43rd 1st 2nd & 3rd in the same box.
I have some timber boxes here some where I might make up one and post a pic.
Keep up the dialogue, they (Biante) are looking and hopefully listening.

1st 2nd and 3rd in the same box - that would be great in 1:43. Would be nice in 1:18 as well - and I guess would cost around $450+? for the 3 1:18's?

tell ya what, i'd like to see ANY new 1:43 touring cars. Special packs or not. the HRT 4 pack was the best thing biante has done with 1:43s so far.
im in full support of the 1:43 3 pack glenn. bring it on.

Bring on the 1:43!!
With the current/past 1:43 release road cars, there can't be too much extra work to create some great Aussie race cars in 1:43. A set of decals, new wheels/tyres (so important for a race car) and some minor mods to 'add-on' plastic parts and Whamo! 1:43 race cars!!
Note to Biante: Don't be concerned about releasing previous Trax models... properly done '77 Moffat XC and '77 Brock A9X etc in 1:43 would be FANTASTIC!
