View Full Version : Biante Models
I HAVE COLLECTED 1/18 SCALE FOR OVER 6 YEARS AND HAVE ABOUT 300 CARS INCLUDING ABOUT 40 BIANTE CARS
THESE CARS ARE BEAUTIFUL THE SAD PART IS SEEING PEOPLE COLLECTING AS A PROFIT RATHER THAN FOR THE VEHICLES AND THIS INCLUDES THE SHOP THAT SELL THESE

I can only agree with you. When people are only buying the models to sell later on at a crazily inflated price for pure profit disappoints me. It is their perogative to do so, but when a serious collector misses out and is forced to pay double or triple the original price 6 months down the track - well, it doesn't seem right. Particularly when stories float around that Model shops actually keep aside most of their stock (of a particularly sought after car) to sell at an inflated price on the net. The Clubsport R8 is a case in point. I'm lucky, I got the last one in my store - for the original price.

yes i to agree. I can't stand to see people only in it to make money.
I also have collected for quite some time and have many models.
The other thing i hate is Fakes. I really do hate it and i can't stand it when i see them on Ebay.
I wonder how many people have brought the Kimi Raikkonen model as part of there collection and how many are just selling them??
Well one has already found it's way on to Ebay....

Yep, I collect to purely collect - and that's that.
I see no point in collecting to sell later.
I'm chasing up a nice display cabinet and all.

My first post so hello to you all.
Never understood why anyone would buy a piece of art, which is what these models are, stick them away in a cupboard, then try and charge a fortune for them a few months later.
I'm also amazed by peoples obsession with having straps & all the original packaging in place. As long as the models not damaged, the packaging's just something that fill up my rubbish bin.
For display cabinets, try shop fitters (yellow pages or trading post newpaper), jewellery stores that are closing/renovating etc (cheap, but obviously you have to be in the right place at the right time) or get a good cabinet maker to build one for you ($$$).

I got some great display cabinets with double glass doors and glass shelves from Ikea. Not sure if you have the same stuff over there but I would imagine you do. I will post a few shots and product info if anyone is interested.

Has anyone seen the Vinninga coffee table from Ikea?. It is fairly big (L104cm*W78cm*H45cm) with a glass top and the whole thing is like a big drawer. You can display models inside the table and have them as a bit of a centre piece of the room. I worked out you can fit up to about 20 F1 cars in there (cramped). It would only be good for F1 type cars as they don't have opening bonnets or doors but I think it would look pretty good. Something different to the usual display cases.
I most definately get annoyed when people collect for profit.
As stated in another post, it does make it hard for the genuine collectors... I was stoked when the DJR XE Falcon came out.Too bad I had to cough up extra to get one, I missed the release.... It's my most favourite car ever, apart from the TRU-BLU XD, and this time I've made sure I'm getting the XD at the original price.
Has anyone seen the price of the Biante Lowndes 00 Falcon in 1/43 scale?? I've seen them for over $100!!!! I paid the original price at the QLD 500 in 2001..... The only way anyone will ever get my model collection will be to dig them up from my coffin when I cark it.....

I am one of these people. I keep all the boxing they come in. E.g Event cars i keep the cardboard outer shell. I keep all the pakcing because i like my models to be in mint condition.
I don't just collect them then store them then sell them for a massive profit. That is wrong, that model could have gone to a decent collector who really wants it and just some profit making person.

How much would it cost to ship from Australia to the UK though. A big heavy display case? It will cost loads. So i will have to find someone in the UK. Thanks anyway.

Just to add to this thread I would like to say that I cannot believe that people purchase models and then 1 week later (I even saw the next day) they are trying to sell them on here at 2x or 3x the original price.
I was after the twin set and kept checking the site until they were released but missed out. I will not pay $400 or even $500 for these cars. Hopefully I will be lucky enough to get the new release of Skaife/Longhurst Bathurst Winning model when it is released. The same goes for the green eyed monster bathurst car. I might just have to settle for the 1:43 scale.
These people are like scalpers and it is really dissapointing to see people trying to make profits from these cars and all I can say is that I hope these people get stuck with these cars because they obviously did not want them in the first place!
To all of the collectors out there best of luck in collecting the models you are after and try not to pay too much for the models from these "model"scalpers.
Cheers,
Cameron

I have to agree that nothing cheeses me off more than people reselling models within weeks (days!!) of their release, at a huge profit. However, we do live in a democracy, and this is their right. I do feel that they are fools, as they don't seem to appreciate the models for what they are, a superb piece of art. All they see are the dollar signs in their eyes. I buy my models for display, not to be hidden in a cupboard. I do keep the original packaging, and get great enjoyment out of looking a the details on the cars. By keeping the packaging, I am keeping the models as a kind of nest-egg for years to come when I'm old, crotchety, toothless, and really need the money. However, I don't think I'll ever get desparate enough to sell my models. I'm going to be like the Egyptians and take 'em with me!!!!!;)

I finally got around to taking a picture of the Ikea display case. I couldn't find it on their website but it is called IVAR and I am sure that if they don't carry it locally they would get it in for you.
If you order it, get 1 or 2 extra shelves as they are cheap and it only comes with 2.

I got an Ikea catalog handy, if anyone is interested I can scan in a few pages of display units for you guys. It's got W.A. prices, but the cat. numbers should be the same.
I'm sure Ikea wouldn't mind the extra bit of advertising ;)
