Real time chat

Since there is some demand for this kind of thing, short of having a built in chat room here on the forum, I offered a room on a small IRC (internet relay chat) network, where I have enough control to keep things clean and peacefull.
So it's up to you guys and girls to let us know if you want something like this happening. I will give you all the help to get, install and use an IRC client, to facilitate this live chat.

Work kept me very busy lately, so as soon as I get a chance I'll write up the help for starting up real time chat.
In the meantime you guys might want to head over to the mIRC (http://www.mirc.com) website and download the version for your operating system. You can install it and play with it if you like, but be warned it will be a little strange if you never have done IRC before.
Would also help to come to some kind of time agreement which is suitable for the majority. Preferably weekend.

I haven't forgotten about the chat Marty. This week I should have a little more time on my hands, so I'll try to make the helpfile happening.
In the meantime people interested should express their approval or disapproval about a possible chat time this sunday, the 21st, also suggest a time for starting. Keep in mind, that I live in Western Australia, and having to supervise all this, a reasonable time during the day would be very welcome. Staying up in the early hours of sunday is not my idea of fun.

Well...as a member of the german minority in this forum i will accept every time you suggest..I already have downloaded that mIRC thing....its pretty confusing but its a start...maybe if a chat will be frequently used by all those model car nuts in here the admin will think about an official Biante chat room?:D

Ok, here it is, sorry about the delay guys, guess better later then never. Follow the steps outlined below, if you get stuck, send me an email (hati@technologist.com) or look me up on ICQ (49823127). Here we go:

1. Download mIRC from the link in the previous post. Install it, then start it up.
2. Enter your detailes for nickname, alternate nickname, email address (don't use your real one, unless you want junk by the thousands) and so on. Once complete click on the OK button, dont worry about selecting a server from the drop down list for now.
3. Go to the window (within mIRC) called ' Status'. The bottom of this window is a text input line. Type here the following:

/server afterdark.dreamrealm.net

Don't forget the forward slash, that tells mIRC that you are doing a command, as opposed to chatting to someone. Once you typed this in and hit enter, you will see a lot of lines scroll up in this window. Don't worry about it, it's standard network usage policy and so on, if you are no axe murderer or child molestor, got nothing to worry about.
4. Once the lines stopped, you want to type this in:

/join #Biante

Again use the slash or better still, copy and paste from here into your text input line.

5. If you've done everything right, you should see a new window pop up, called #Biante. This is your chat room. You may not find anyone there sometimes, but there is nothing to worry about, services look after the channels/chat rooms while people are not using it.

If you run into problems during any part of installation/use of this chat program, don't be shy to contact me. Will sort it out for you from there. Have fun ;)

im interested in the live chat hati, i would also be glad to host it most nights between the hours of 7:30 and 8:30pm sydney time, thing is you will have to organise to give me OP status so as to moderate it when there if your not there, please let me know if this is acceptable.

Well all i was in Mirc for live chat friday, saturday and sunday nights form 7:30pm to 8:30pm and no one showed up. im sorry if i feel i wasted my time but i thought some may be interested in a yarn with other collectors. and i guess the original poster of this thread seems disheartened also. I will be in Mirc all week at the same times, and if after that no one shows, well at least i know i tried to do something for all.

Well I'm on the specified server and channel (room) as I write this, Paul you are sure you got it right ? Was there yesterday and day before that too, but nobody showed up. Don't forget to connect to the particular server I mentioned above, else is like having a party in a house but you are sitting in some other house waiting for the guests to show up.

Paul, try typing in /list (including the slash) in the text input box. That will give you all the channels currently active on the server. #Biante channel should be there, as we are chatting with frosty as I write this. Email me if you can't get in the channel.

Just a thought....

As some of us are on Prepaid Internet connection and can't log on every night, I suggest that we make Tuesday nite... the BIG nite..

Where anyone and everyone try to log on for a big get together..

This doesn't stop us from using it whenever we like, BUT if you can only make it once a week, then how about each Tuesday...

I am open to suggestions.

PS: Last nite I was on with thekid and Donny, we were discussing Brocky's 1995 bathurst cars, wheels, bonnet clips etc..
